ProTaper EVO Handlebar & ODI V2 Emig Lock-On Grips Install CRF450L

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Its time to start modding my CRF450L! I've had these handle bars in the past and I loved them so I wanted them on my new bike. However I've never tried the EMIG grips from ODI so I wanted to install them as well. It took a little modding but we got them on.

Thanks for the video, I have the Evo bars and sanded the clutch lever end for a couple of minutes with 220 grit paper then wiped with a clean paper towel with Windex. Then I went and washed my hands 😁. Then I used a little more Windex to wet.the bar end and inside the Odi v2 grip slightly and it slid right on.👍🏼

Tyler and his cousin tried riding in the snow. They didn’t make it long and his cousin crashed pretty much right away. We’re all ready for spring!

Xr400r pro taper evos windham bend with risers. 6 ft tall. Very comfortable now. Tried Pastrana fmx bend and Henry reed but windham is right in middle.

@@wbz56 I did the CR high. I haven’t been able to go out and ride it since the installation. I’m 5’11 and it seems to be okay, don’t know for sure though. I will say they’re definitely not to high.

The lock on grips will install on the ProTaper bar without having to file down the bar (this is not a good move). Just back that 3mm screw out a little more...once you get them started, they slid on easy.

I could have tried a little hard....I had an ODI rotating grip a long time ago that wouldn't fit unless I filed it so I just assumed I'd have that problem here too. But so far nothing has moved

I actually got the same grips for my pit bike(KLX110L), and completely destroyed the bar end of the clutch side grip trying to get it to fit.. Closest I can get is about 2 inches out. The clamp is fine, but the plastic insert is just too tight. Great grips for stock bars, wish I would have sanded mine first on my SE’s though. :/

The stock bars were actually pretty good. Honestly I probably could have gone with risers and been basically just as happy

Did you have to drill holes in the bars for the alignment pins?

I’m curious how you do like them. I’ve been running Pro Taper pillow tops for years, but like the clamp on style of those like the KTM. Just picked up my 2020 450L and looking at options.

I really haven’t gotten to use them yet but I like them from what I can tell so far. I too have ran pillow tops and those tag rebound grips before and I was just looking for something different. These grips have a nice initial comfort too then so I hope they hold up

I'm surprised they used 7/8" bars on such an expensive bike. My 2019 WR 450F came stock with 1 1/8" bars. I've always used 1 1/8" risers with CR High Bend bars but, I'm only 5'11".

My sons YZ65 came with 1 1/8” I believe as well, pretty sure it’s protaper. It’s a single bar and while I never looked close pretty sure it’s not a 7/8” I feel like if you combined Honda and Yamaha you would eliminate the flaws of both companies. I have heard that WR is a hell of a bike. I hope Yamaha makes a street legal version someday too

Unfortunately I have not gotten to ride a modern ktm/husky but I wish I could. I think any of those bikes can do fire roads without thinking especially if you have good tires. From there imo how technical are your trails vs how many road miles you want to put on. That might help. Eventually this year the kids want to do an open ride day at the Mx park. When I got this bike I needed something for roads, fire roads, off road park, and Mx track. Not the best bike for any one thing but it was my top pick for all of those because honestly working on this bike feels really similar to my old 06 450r. Good luck on the choice! Part of the fun

You did not have to cut the stock grips as you were already replacing the whole handlebar. Just saying.... also, are you considering replacing the rubber brake hose with an armored one, please?

Got them installed on my 250l today. A bit of a pita! Had to drill out both sides so the pins would fit and had to trim the bar pad and cover. I really like the end results though.

I would have him watch the comparison video I did as a starting point. Cost can be a big factor. The next would be how hard he wants to ride and how much maintenance he wants to do. Both are great bikes. But they are both really different

you could avoid cutting the original grips, remove them with compressed air, and maybe give them to a child with minicross
