Interesting, and kudos for tests like you did with the insulation tester.. and showing approaches were one can validate certain claims, at least to a degree..

Thank you for the video. Great safety test demonstration with the leads and the Megger. Most reviewers only perform continuity tests. I will try this test with the various lead sets that I have to test their safety. Also, I purchased a Megger 430/2 from eBay last year. Do you know of any diagnostic tests I can perform to ensure it is functioning 100% to spec? It came in a case with all of the test leads but did not include the CD ROM.

The amount of tests you can do on a Megger depends on what other test equipment you have. If you have a multimeter, then you can directly measure the output voltage of the insulation tester. Depending on the meter it may go over-range on the 1000V test but all the other voltages should read fine. The Megger should display around 10 MOhm during the test. The voltage values should be within +2% of the nominal. If the multimeter can measure mA then you can test the short circuit current of the insulation tester. Wire a 100 Ohm resistor in series with the ammeter. You should get between 1 to 2 mA. For the continuity function you should get between 4 to 6V and for the short circuit current greater than 200mA with a 1 ohm series resistor. After that you can just measure resistor values and capacitor values. You can cross check those values to the multimeter as well. You can get a CalCard that has some typical resistance values for repeated checks and use with a multimeter, although it is a bit pricey; www.amazon.co.uk/Check-Box-Card-multibrand-NICEIC/dp/B01HR4GGIQ/ There are also specific insulation tester check boxes, that give more functionality at an even higher price. I did do a review of the MIT420/2 for element14 a few years back. There are a number of blogs that show the measurements I made. The initial review is at; community.element14.com/products/roadtest/rv/roadtest_reviews/213/megger_insulation_te_2 You can get to all the other blogs from that. The CDRom had the download software for the MIT430/2. You can download that from the Megger website, you will just need to register, which is free. Manuals and datasheet are also available from there; uk.megger.com/cat-iv-insulation-testers-mit400/2-series#software Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@three-phase562 - Thanks for the quick reply. I downloaded the software and connected my Megger to my laptop. Thanks for the link to your review of the 420. I read it last year. Your comment about not being able to download the data led me to purchase the 430-2 so that I could download the data. I find your reviews and comparisons as some of the best. Keep them coming. They certainly help in making good purchasing decisions and learning some tips and tricks.
