To think usefully about humanity’s future, you have to bear everything in mind simultaneously. Nobody has managed that better than Martin Rees in his succinct summing-up book: ON THE FUTURE: Prospects for Humanity.
As the recent President of the Royal Society (and longtime Royal Astronomer), Rees is current with all the relevant science and technology. At 76, he has seen a lot of theories about the future come and go. He has expert comfort in thinking at cosmic scale and teaching the excitement of that perspective. He has explored the darkest scenarios in a previous book, OUR FINAL HOUR: A Scientist’s Warning (2004), which examined potential extreme threats from nuclear weapons, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, climate change, and terrorism. Civilization’s greatest danger comes from civilization itself, which now operates at planetary scale. Consequently, he says, to head off the hazards and realize humanity’s potentially fabulous prospects, "We need to think globally, we need to think rationally, we need to think long-term.”
And we can.
"Prospects For Humanity" was given on January 14, 02019 as part of Long Now's Seminar series. The series was started in 02003 to build a compelling body of ideas about long-term thinking from some of the world's leading thinkers. What people care about is more emotional than logical I think. Not many people would stop spending on comforts to save for their great grand-children. Also as a "lone weirdo" I guess I've got to do what I can (for good not bad, dont worry) before things get strict.

Kinda hard to react plan for something when your being lied to about the causes. Climate change is has and will always be caused by the MILANKOVITCH cycles. Our planets climate cycles are continental glaciers with lower sea levels brought about every 13,000 years by global tsunami's when our solar system crosses over the Galaxies electromagnetic equatorial plane from positive through null to negative. Earth is a closed loop that self regulates co2 with life. CO2+H2O captures the energy of the SUN and creates life. Climate change is has and will always be caused by the Milankovitch cycles. Temperature rises first and Co2 follows. Cause and effect. To say co2 is forcing causing the temperature to rise is like putting the cart before the horse. Covid like CO2 is a LIE strawman built upon an inconvenient truth. The Baby Boomers who were born en mass 75 years ago are starting to die from the usual suspects of seasonal FLU and old age. No MASK of the BEAST No Buying or Selling Revelations 13:16 Energy is neither created nor destroyed. Einstein On this planet. All energy comes from or goes to electromagnetic toroidal fields that are our SUN or the Center of our galaxy.
