Amazing footage. Thanks again! Some of those wipeouts are so gnar. Like my teeth chattered imagining my knees getting jammed into my face watching some of those guys getting hit by the lip or going over the falls. Then there are the sketchy head-first or head-over-heels wipeouts right on the sand. Not to be a total buzzkill, but are ambulances there like every day?

@@BEEFSTV Man I want to body board / body surf this place so bad, and I don't live too far away either. But I'm not accustomed to waves that large. I think the largest wave I've ever ridden was a 12 footer that I body surfed when I was 15. If I tried it now, I'd get my ass kicked by the waves, and maybe even the locals too. I know how touchy some locals can be when a non-local shows up at their spot.

Looks like mid winter swells...wow, no joke!

Pros get smokified! Tyler got his clock wound and the semi-pro at 6:30 ran out of ocean earning a +1 for the sand-plant dismount.

Such a luck % wave like most. When I was a pilot, every time I was on the W coast and had time I ran off to the known breaks to see the monsters. When I had the op to visit the wedge it was a swimming pool. When on V in HI we drove 4 hours to visit pipe and it was smooth as glass. This is prob the best I ever seen Wedge for surfing.

Nice swell direction, what was it 195°-ish? Seemed like a bit west. A lot of great rides and folks getting nuked. Loved the barrel ride at Cylinders @ 6:27. I read the surfer’s mind when he thought oh-sh_t!, when that clean barrel ended up on dry sand. He looked pretty wasted and wish you had kept on him a bit more as he seemed stupefied.

Wedge is an infamous beach break, a-frame wave in newport beach (So. Cal). the wave is so big and so close to shore that theres almost no margin for error, all the water that should be infront of the wave is pulled up into the wave itself.

This is about twice as radical as anything I ever did surfing and now at 68 I am paying the price with a bad back and other pains. These guys are going to hurt even more if they make it to 68, I think Tyler Stanalan can attest to this at his young age I see small signs of stiffness.

Years of this have done my back in and they tried to get me to have the surgery but I opt to do my best to strengthen core. I’m still and sore but never regret all the shorebreak fun I’ve had for so many years 🤙

@@BEEFSTV First off all, don't ever let them do the surgery. Also, I understand the need for the adrenaline and all that, I was there, but what happens is eventually you will have children and get older..... then you might not to be able to surf with them, or do other sports with them. Then you will feel differently, you might even regret having all that fun early in your life and giving up the precious children's fun and in my case, the grandchildren.

Sorry for the dumb questions, do the boards break when they first come down and get slammed into the sand nose or back end first, or do they land flat and break or do they break later after the wave picks them up again and slams them back down?

I've had one stick nose first into the sand in a similar spot like the wedge , then I landed on the tail , right into my gut . I folded in half and my head hit and broke the board and at the same time a fin cut through my suit and into my thigh. So in an instant I have a broken board , and bleeding from my leg and my head. As I walked in some dude said " Bro! Did you mean to do that??" No Sir, I did not . Still got the scar though
