I have the Kent Comb, Ox horn, Chicago comb. I use the Chicago comb in the shower daily and I usually use my ox horn for beard oil application. I also notice how the ox horn comb holds the smell of my beard oil like you mentioned in the video. I've had the Kent comb forever and I usually take it in my travel bag when I go on vacation. I like the Chicago combs the best.

Absolutely love the #7 & #8 Chicago combs! My beard is getting closer to 8" & I had to transition from the same ox horn comb w/handle. I'm still having trouble with tension though. I tried the Chicago pet comb & it works surprisingly well but I use it more for a shower comb now. Watching your videos has truly helped me through my bearded journey. Thank you, sir.

Dan, I am SO glad that you showed us carbon fiber combs. They are so amazing and by far the best tool I have used. Like you I have numerous number 8 combs so I always have one close. I started with Kent combs and they were fine, but the Chicago Combs are just next level. I also really enjoy the number 7, and the number 2 on my mustache. I also have a small bathroom and small sink, I knock these combs off fairly often, and I have never had a single one break.

Chicago combs 7 & 8 are my go-to's. I also got the oxhorn/buffalo handled combs that I'll use at the end of my routine. I can do Woden combs I just feel like my beard doesn't style the way I want it too. Kent combs was as bad as experience for me as when a lady at Sport Clips put cremo beard balm in my beard. Caused me pain, breakage was insane, that's when I started using oxhorn combs and I lived happily ever after. Great video!

It does a great job too. The other comb I use that you didn't mention is the Chicago Comb # 6. Started with those cheap wooden double side combs and quickly changed because couldn't get deep enough in my beard, feeling like it was useless. Bought 2 Kent combs after that a R7T that never leaves my bag to do a quick check up through the day, and a 9T for the bathroom. But once my beard grew longer, I saw Dan's videos and I bought a buffalo horn and it changed my life ! Curious about the carbon ones, they seem to be really great !

I like my Viking Revolution two sided wooden comb. I don't style with a comb though, I use a detangler brush for that with the blow dryer. The wood comb fits good in my pocket and the narrow teeth work best for the stash while the wider teeth go smoothly through the beard. I might check out a carbon fiber comb though. Sounds good.

I have been using a detangler comb almost exclusively since graduating away from athose wooden combs as my beard got longer. My beard hair is course and curly and the Tortoise Shower Detangler Comb from Sally's (for .99) is the best way I know to avoid breakage and lots of snarling. I keep one in the shower and use one after oiling my beard. They are sturdy, easy to keep clean, do not take on aromas, and I have not noticed static issues I may try the Chicago #8 after watching this, but hesitate to spend the money without knowing if it works with my kind of beard.

I like this, and I’d like to see more, with some detail. Specifically, more detail on which tooth widths (Fine, Coarse, Wide, Detangling…) and lengths are best for what beard characteristics (Length, Density, Straight or Curly…). Unfortunately, it seems there are no standards for widths, and combs with different teeth are commonly referred to as fine and wide although the teeth are really fine and coarse. This can make it difficult to decide which width you need. Tension is good for grooming, but too much can pull hairs and sometimes no tension may be needed. Your comments about wood are good, but there are combs made with attention to the qualities (grain, strength, etc.) of the wood used, that overcome some of your criticisms. Bamboo, a grass, also has different qualities than wood and I think should get some attention. Kudos to Chicago Comb - I’ve read of cheap Carbon Fiber combs that break easily.

I could never gel with the wood combs either. I used to use a similar wide tooth comb from the big box store, and I had a "Flat Top" comb I used for styling. They worked well, but the Chicago #8 does the job of both, and is much higher quality. I saw a thread on the Facebook group, where there isn't anything special about the Chicago combs... That is true, but there is just something about them. They are well made, and just do what they're supposed to do. They also just feel nice in hand... I had a metal comb for a time, but again could never gel with it either... I have the Chicago #2 for my Mustache, the #6 is my Wife's, the #7 for volume, #8 is my daily driver, and the Pet Comb in the shower...

I have a less dense, naturally fine beard so I prefer close together teeth. The part of my Kent comb with the fine teeth that most of you would use just on your mustache, I actually use through my entire beard just to style it and get everything going in the right direction. I have a two-sided wooden comb I use to basically distribute oil and detangle my hair, and then I use a boar bristle brush to really distribute and style. And if my beard still isn't looking particularly the way I want, I use the fine tooth side of my Kent comb and that's basically my quintessential styling comb.

Especially later in the day, many hours after styling. I have about a 7" beard measured from the bottom lip. That brush seems to be the best at "re-grooming". It's full without frizz and even. Anyhow... I know you're thinking "if it works for you then go for it". I'm just curious your thoughts on it.

I know it was a long time ago but there is a video where you're using one of the wooden cheap combs for your night time routine. I use a Kent comb at night to help spread the butter. I use the handled Buffalo horned comb you have in this video for combing out my beard right after I shower, and then to spread the oil. And in the shower I have the "Pet comb" from Chicago. Love em all 😊 That said, what's wrong with metal combs?? Never owned one, but I'm just wondering. If they're precision cut and have no snags or imperfections, what's the problem?

@@DanCBearded Thanks, Dan! I appreciate it! So to clarify and confirm you use both of the Chicago Combs (#7 & #8) in place of the Kent 9T and the Boar Bristle Round Styling Hair Brush from GranNaturals that you linked in that morning routine video? As of this recent upload I know I heard you said you prefer the Model 7 Pick Comb from Chicago Combs for the bottom portion of your beard in comparison to the rounded boar bristle brush mentioned (just seeking confirmation). Furthermore, do you incorporate a different model from Chicago Combs as a substitute for the Kent 9T or does the "Model 8" officially take precedence over the Kent 9T for you nowadays? Again, thanks in advance, Dan! Your input is valued! Also: what is your take on the manufacturing process of the Chicago Combs as far as the mold is considered? I've seen a few people say they are mold-pressed and wanted to hear your thoughts as to whether or not they may be and if it is a concern in comparison to the Kent line where the combs appear to be saw cut, hand polished/buffed to create soft rounded teeth that will not damage the hair.

I started with a Kent comb when my beard was short and like Dan I now just use it for my mustache and head hair. It’s very good quality and has held up well for over a year. I now have two buffalo horn combs, a wide tooth like Dan showed in the video and a more fine tooth one from Bad Ass Beard Co. I love them both for different uses. I have a fairly curly beard and the wide teeth give my hair more room to move without tangling. The fine tooth I like to use after applying heat when my beard is straighter and it gives a nice finished look. I also use a Chicago comb #8 in the shower for the same reasons that Dan laid out. It works great, has long teeth and I don’t have to worry about it being wet. Overall I prefer the buffalo horn combs for styling simply because I like the look of them more than the Chicago combs. However, you really can’t go wrong with either.
