1) I personally have not sent any cards for grading in several years. I’ve tried to choose cards to collect that I want regardless of the grade or grading company. I’m also in no rush to grade any of the raw cards I’ve bought. It’s nice to buy a PSA slab for the authenticity financial guarantee for certain cards though. It also seems like scarce low pop PSA 10 cards will matter at least for the foreseeable future but there are many more cards where a PSA 10 grade will not save them from going down the tubes value wise. 2) I have seen a couple examples where there seems to be opportunity for arbitrage crossing BGS to PSA. For example in the soccer card space where I collect, a PSA 9 2004 Mega Cracks PSA 9 Messi went for ~3.5x more than what BGS 9 copies sold for. It seems like there’d be an opportunity to potentially buy BGS copies and crack and cross to PSA. If you could get 1 out of 4 (or even 5) BGS slabs to cross, then you would come out way ahead. And I’m sure there are people out there doing that once these ratios get to a certain point.

Great episode as usual! I buy quite a few 1k+ cards but I do so buy building my bank roll with raw-to-grade-to-flip. Gotta pick the right player, right card, at the right time. It works, but it's a grind however, if you want to build your PC without always dipping into your wallet, its the best way IMO. That being said, I have also cashed in some company ESPP stock and picked up a nice Mays RC and a big Ooe rare Griffey card - Id much rather look at those 2 cards than the stock shares (I DO NOT dip into 401k just to get that straight nor do I buy on credit).

I mean PSA gets the most value if your looking to sell but I honestly don’t care what slab it’s in if the card looks good I’ll buy it

This is still my favorite show but I’ve been watching since the beginning. Missed the show last week too! What’s the point of collecting if the cards aren’t bringing you happiness? Mentally we are all collecting CARDBOARD. When you collect beyond your means and need to sell OR just lose the passion… Idk man! Refind that passion. It’s apparent brother

I grade 90s basketball and I grade with BGS unless I’m very confident I can get a PSA 10. BGS is much more consistent and I won’t crack and resubmit to PSA. PSA demands a premium but that point is moot if I’m getting a grade or 2 lower in PSA. I also don’t agree with PSA standards. PSA gives lower grades for flaws I can barely see on the surface or flaws on the back which I care much less about. For my PC, I look for PSA 8s with great eye appeal.

You’re comparing apples and oranges, there is no PSA comparison to an SGC gold 10

I think it's awesome all these people paying stupid upcharge prices for PSA slabs. It allows the people who have been around awhile and know what they know to get the sgc and bgs cards for a lot cheaper. I thank all those PSA snobs.

Shill bids are a very small proportion of eBay sales. If shill bids were to suddenly disappear (ha) it would not make the price of cards plummet. This is a silly idea to entertain.

Sometimes their eBay name is the same as their Instagram handle. Or, you could contact the seller and ask if they are on I G? My eBay name is the same as my Instagram, so I’m often contacted via DM there without prompting.

Stick with the swimming pool

I have raw cards and slabbed cards in my collection, and every single one of my graded cards are PSA. Not because I think they're the most accurate or anything, but purely for consistency and for the sake of cataloguing my collection. I can open my graded card shoebox and flip through all of my cards and find exactly what I'm looking for because they're all in PSA holders.

I am a cheapskate.....Paying over 1k for any card i am and would be very cautious . Why is this card over 1k? I have watched cards go from $100 and go to 3k and back to $100. I buy at a steady price for over 6 months+. Buying cards with these wild swings in price is stupid to me. If you took out shilling in the hobby, you would remove 70% of all sales. If you are buying a card cause i player just won or about to win a ring....you are gonna loose. Mainly newer cards,cause the price is baked in from the jump.

Psa you are paying the extortion fee. It is a myth and isnt any better. You psa homers are brainwashed. I will buy a bgs before a psa faster,the only exception is i can find the card at a fair price. I am not paying 2-5x just cause a case. Riddle me this,why does a bgs 10 sell for more than a psa 10? If psa was so great,the hobby would still value it more. But they donot.. Countless psa 10s are flawed. Look at that Wemby 1/1......just saying.

You can cry about it all you want but the fact is you are free to buy whatever you like. People pay a premium for PSA’s product. Nobody says it’s better, it’s just more desirable in the marketplace. The set registry is my addiction. Once you’ve got the highest graded set of your favorite sport hero, you’ll understand. Nobody cares about your BGS collection either. It’s just a fact…I buy all graders for my PC but I’d be stupid if I bought anything but PSA for an investment in today’s market. End of Story
