The best thing about MSU for me is sitting on the grass. It’s always the feeling of being outdoors and doing my assignments, especially during broad daylight, that keeps me sane.

I agree with the part where you talked about the staff. I haven’t had issues with the food staff, but more like with the administration staff. It’s also the reason why I don’t tend to call but just go straight in person to ask them. 😆

I attended MSU back in 2016-2018. For me personally it didn’t feel like “home”. 100% agree with the communication issues. I transfer to a community college and it was the BEST decision for me and I graduated this semester.

The food staff for sure do have some kind of attitude. Every time I go there it’s like there deaf. I would have to repeat myself so many times. I literally have to like semi yell for them to hear me. Another thing I hate is that they for some reason don’t like to cancel classes. I remember there were like two days where snow storms occurred and they didn’t even cancel class. I was like wtf. The second time the snow storm occurred they cancelled class while I was in my morning lecture. I commute so it’s even worse. I’m like if ur gonna announce class is cancelled than cancel it the day before and not when I’m already in my class on campus.

New Yorkers are some of the warmest, kindest, funniest smartest people I have ever met and I have traveled the world I would say about 95% of the time it’s a more positive experience that you just stated right here, people rude, and just wanting to MoveOn even when I’m in a rush, I help people and like I said New York are born and bred. I think that your experience generally reflects what you bring to the table as well and if you’re expecting something negative, then you get something negative.

  • @marinasaburova

So if it’s all still the same (I’m guessing it is) then you have a few options as a freshman. You can pick between 3-4 dorms. Bohn hall is for freshmen only. There is also Blanton and the Heights. Those two are for everyone and freshmen are allowed. I think if you’re a music major there is also Freeman as an option. So you can choose! It’s not random, but some of the dorms are for upperclassmen only. Also they do fill up, so the sooner you pick the more options you have. Hope this helps!

Hey! It definitely depends on your personal preference. Now that I’m graduated I am SO glad I stayed in state because I have much less debt than those that went out of state. But that depends on things like scholarships too! Montclair is a commuter school so seeing out of state students was definitely a bit rare and unusual… and everyone leaves for the weekend so campus was super boring. You’re not too far so you can always visit home on the weekends though. (Except the train doesn’t run on the weekends so you’d need to take the bus) It really depends on what you’re looking for but I personally don’t think Montclair is worth paying more money for, if you’ve got a cheaper option. Everything is pretty average about this school so you wouldn’t be missing out on much

Just wanted to post an update about my feelings on MSU. I cannot recommend for anyone to commit to this school. Right now, their COVID policies are ridiculous. They are taking away our freedom. The real problem is, however, that they are being hypocritical about it. They are blaming us for their wrongdoings and are being unprofessional. I'm going to make a video about this soon with more detail, but I am currently deeply disappointed in how they are treating students.

Sure. We do a temp check when entering the dorms, no guests are allowed, and we fill out a survey called “HawkCheck” daily which checks our symptoms. Covid PCR testing every other week, the week opposite we do two rapid tests. The food hours are limited, half of them are closed. There aren’t many events going on around campus

Biggest con I’ve seen is the scheduling and advising. Gen Ed biology courses will be scheduled during the week… like 9 am to 2 pm… 2 to 3 days a week. So you can’t even work a day Job. These classes are also taken immediately when they open. The school prefers not to have night classes for some reason. It’s horrible. Too many rules at Montclair state, go elsewhere believe me.

It depends on the course you are looking to apply for. I’m Ghanaian I came here and applied for my masters with my degree from Ghana In less than a year. I only wrote the toefl exam. Some courses need the GRE. You will also need a transcript of evaluation by an approved evaluation service like WES or ECE. Some courses require specific GPA requirements. You may need a personal statement explaining why you are in for the course and why you should be selected. You need recommendations from you lecturers or supervisors from work. They offer forms to apply for your visa as soon as you qualify. For that I think the embassy requires a sizable bank statement or a sponsor for fees. I don’t know if you have to pay a commitment fee to the school like other schools in Canada. I am currently studying my masters in Molecular Biology.
