Pros and Cons of living in London, Ontario

Looking for an alternative city to Toronto to live in? Thinking about living in Southwestern Ontario. Let me introduce you to London Ontario. Situated in between Detroit and Toronto with easy access to highway 401 and Lake Huron and Lake Ontario. Home to Western University and Fanshawe College as well as a number of job opportunities -- London is a medium city with big city amenities.
In this video I go over the pros and cons of living in London based on my experiences as someone who grew up here and also a London Ontario Real Estate Agent.
If you would like to learn more about moving here and looking to buy a home here please do reach out as I'm a real estate agent here in the area.

Old South Wortley Village area home to many heritage properties ...It's laid back, no traffic and you often have fun hanging out with nieghbours on porches and back yards...The Wortley Roadhouse and store owners have weekend events, bring the kids, dances on the street etc.

Good video. London is a great city, very green. City Hall needs to spend more on making the city centre more fun. Water fountains, big screen tv monitors, more flashing lights like other southern Ontario cities.

There were a bit few "cons" for my taste, but I'm German and so I think I just scream for negative stuff :D Anyway. Thanks a lot for the insights. It seems to be a very calm city for North America.

Outside of the city you've got many small town choices. Komoka/Kilworth (expensive) in the West, Strathroy (larger)/Mt Bridges, Middlesex Centre has some good choices like Ilderton, Lucan, etc.. and you have St Thomas a smaller city to the south

I've lived in both provinces. Ontario has a larger population and more options for cities over 200,000. Alberta tends to be cheaper for cost of living. Access to the states in AB are like the Dakota's/Montana. Ontario you've got Michigan, Chicago, and NY. You've got more universities and colleges in Ontario.

Everything is expensive, unless you live EOA. (East Of Adelaide) That's where I was born and raised. It's pretty safe unless you live EOA. But I'm 42 and haven't even been murdered once. Prices for rent anywhere close to UWO or Fanshawe always have a hefty premium. It's also hard to even find a place to rent. More and more homeless every year :( . If you do decide to come here, give yourself lots of time to find an apartment or you might not get one.

Funny… yeah when I moved to Toronto I learned to adapt to the speed of the city, coming back to London was a shocker… I like to say it’s where people come to die. There’s a lot of Seniors here and they are in no hurry. My colleagues from Toronto all love the idea of moving to London, you can easily have a dual-income in the GTA and end up stuck in a Townhouse or Semi. Very difficult. I was fortunate, I ended up with a better career when I moved back and now London is very affordable. I’d love to move back to the GTA but Toronto is only 2 hours away. The main difference? I can get to work in 10 minutes instead of 2-1/2 hours. I think my best situation in Toronto was a 20 minute walk, but once I started working downtown it was definitely at least an hour each way. I remember living in Mississauga and having to get to Richmond Hill. One family vehicle, so if I took transit I had to leave the house around 5:45, just to get to work by 9 yikes. It can be 5 or 6 hours for transportation in the GTA. London traffic is not great in some areas but nothing like the GTA.

Do not move to London. The bus system is horrible. They still think that people all work 9 to 5 Monday to Friday. Many areas, over 20 years old still do not have bus service. They are incouraging business around the airport, but only one bus goes threw twice a day. If your hours do not match, too bad. Nothing past midnight. Weekend buses bad as well. We escape 4 years ago. Have visited our daughter. London is getting worse. She is hoping to escape a pe in a few more years. The downtown is a dangerous nightmare even in the middle of the day.. The downtown has been going down ever since they closed all the mental health hospitals. Lots of drugs and gangs, as it is a main drug trafficking route between Detroit and Toronto.

Good; the parks along theRiver. The concerts in a small venue. The hockey team London Knights. The summers are nice . Winter doesn’t start until mid December. The bad : downtown is full of druggies esp on Dundas Street! The city politicians could do better! They have nice Victoria park , near big cathedral and Insurance blding. Rest is run down and frankly not safe. Takes cops hour to come out for calls esp breakins. The shock is the 8,000 plus rentals. They are losing big time on permits, licences and tax dollars . Websites way out of date. Landlords are crooks as rates going up ! Garbage is not green . No blue/green bins. You can toss couches and beds out onto streets. Not much in the way of bottle depots With a city full of 🦝 raccoons, squirrels and skunks the trash is all over. London could do better !!!
