We are considering relocating to the Richmond area. I will be in that area for the next six months(working) and going to look around to see what it offers. Rental properties seem to be half the cost of where I am currently at and with the way Brandon is running the country we may have no choice but to relocate to where the numbers work better.

I spent quite a bit of time in Lexington in the mid to late 90’s. First off I have to disagree with new housing being a con. There are so many absolutely beautiful old Victorian homes that new construction doesn’t come close to in beauty and charm. I too live in a college town (Kalamazoo Michigan) and to me it’s a great big plus considering most people tend to be more educated and liberal. I can not for the life of me figure out how music wasn’t the top of the pro list. As the birthplace of Blue Grass how was that overlooked?!

@@mmirl9859 , Good question since most people don't think about food when they are considering relocation. My job has me travel all over and the one thing I see is the people believe the food where they are is good even if it's not, the only way to know is to visit and try it. The worst is when your employer is paying for your meals and the food (like in Wisconsin) is bad and you end up buying something from Walmart and microwaving it in your hotel room. I'll be in the Lexington/Richmond area over the next few months and going to try as many places as possible.

Guess what, Ocala is also the one area of Florida where all the horse ranches are located, Ocala is also called the Horse Capital of the world, a title that KY claims, man, that is just too much coincidence. Laettner and Ocala😂

I’m considering moving me and my wife and kids to Lexington area, and want to make sure it’s a great place to raise a family. I live in Las Vegas and it’s too hot and society is getting worse. I know there’s bad everywhere, but we are growing tired. My brother lives in Morehead and says it’s been great for him and his family. What I want to know is there a lot of racism there and is the cost of living reasonable? Are the winters brutal?

  • @livininlex

It depends on what areas you live in. if you live in the neighborhoods closer to downtown then yes they are. A lot of the areas near UKs campus and the 40502 zip code are bike friendly. Once you go outside of new circle road then you likely aren't biking to work, but it's possible. Not sure if you have a specific kind of tax in mind but on average KY is below the national averages. Property taxes in Lexington are a little higher than the surrounding cities outside of Louisville. Healthcare kinda depends, but its around the national average. I have some other videos that dive into those topics. Like this one: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hHptxZqyiLene6g.html

Kentucky is a Southern state historically and culturally, there's no way around it. It's "Upland" or "Upper" South, so more like Tennessee than Alabama. The eastern half is Southern Appalachia, think coal mines and hillbillies and that kind of stuff.

I know this is coming from an Englishman but I'd really have to argue that either Newmarket or The Curragh is the horse capital of the world. especially considering that Europeans brought horse racing to North America in the form that it exists today. A lot of folk that are involved in horse racing in Kentucky, particularly in higher positions are Irish, and to a slightly lesser extent, British.

I shudder to think someone so young and inexperienced is representing the city of Lexington. Since when are college students counted in a cities census count, except their own hometown? 300K huh? You know as well as anyone that a city count is not the true picture of any cities population. It's the Metro count, which puts Lexington in the 6-7 hundred thousand range, depending on the source. Cincinnati to the North is not even in the top US cities, but Lexington is #60. But, we know it's the Metro population that makes Cincinnati bigger. And, yes Kentucky does have and has had Pro sports teams. Stretching back to the early 1900's with Louisville Pro Baseball, ABA Basketball, and today the Pro Soccer Women's NWSL Racing Louisville. And, it has attempted getting a NBA team again for year's now. So, it's hardly true we've only been exposed to college sports. Lexington 's biggest mistake, drawback is it's the largest US city without a freeway running thru it. So, IF your going to commute, better get used to idling at stoplights, road rage, and headaches.

The west and east end of Lexington is in shambles. I lived there in the 60's when Blacks had to sit up in the balcony to attend a movie at the Ben Ally. Wolworths was a store you could go to and sit at the counter. It slowly allowed Black people to be accepted as equals sort of. I guess when they allowed Tom Payne to attend UK, it gave Blacks a little hope, but that was to use him to win more basketball games in the powerful SEC . The crack game in the 80's tore the Black community apart. Lot's of my friends died and suffered losses .
