    My 2 favourites are the 262 and Kurfurst. The 262, once mastered is awesome. For some real fun load up with R4M and strafe some ground targets. Play it back from the target/ground view and see how terrifying an Me262 attack would have been in the ATG role. The Kurfurst is just the ultimate refinement of what is a fine airgraft in all its itereations in the game. From E7 to K4, this is a true pilots aeroplane. The 30mm cannon firing through the engine crankcase makes sniping at standoff ranges possible. I took out an La5FN from 1000m with 3 rounds. This is how steady a gun platform the K4 is. It can also do 360 deg pretty quickly without losing much speed or height.

    Climb rate on the 262 might not be anything amazing compared to the opposition it's the speed that it's ideal climb rate is at, around 475kph compared to prop planes 290-300kph, granted as you said that isn't that fast for planes diving down on you, but I usually level out and do my hunting at 2km rather then at 3-5km that i do in prop planes. that climb speed makes sneaking up from underneath of them a valid tactic.

    The Dora isn't "maybe" slower than the Anton in terms of roll rate, it definitely is slower. If there's one thing I do not like about the Dora, it's how sluggish it felt against the Anton. Makes me wish we got the A-9, or hopefully a more realistic simulation of the radios/communications so we can really appreciate how much of a workhorse the Anton is.

I haven't seen any definitive stats on maneuvering and turn rate of the G14 vs K4 in the game, but the G14 certainly "felt" better maneuvering to me. I also prefer the smaller caliber, but higher ammo count cannon on the G14. I love the engine and power on the K4, but for dogfighting, the G14 feels better to me. • @haroldgodwinson832

    @haroldgodwinson832

    The biggest mistake new guys make when piloting sim aircraft is to use 'exaggerated', aggressive control inputs. So you tend to jerk and yank on the control column rather than apply smooth 'pressure', in the direction you want the aircraft to go. You can adjust the control inputs to an extent via in-game settings but for the most part this is unnecessary. One approach that can help is to take a 'low grip' on the stick when you're just starting out. Typically, your inputs should be almost imperceptible to an observer and continuous, just one long movement rather than lots of individual movements.

    Very true. The story of the G10s they sold/exchanged to Switzerland for interned aircraft in 1944 emphasises this. The Swiss flew Emils bought in 1939, but these were getting somewhat obsolete. But the build quality was of concern and they had to bring their Emils back out of storage as the Gustavs were not reliable enough. This Swiss government pursued Messerschmitt through German courts and this was not settled until 1956 with Messerschmitt AG refunding them the money. I also once sat in the cockpit of an HE162 Salamander. A cheap and disposal wooden jet fighter, basically a glider with a BMW003 engine on its back. Very shonky and rough as a badgers arse.

    @@SheriffsSimShack I just see it like follows: The allied side gets planes of a certain technological level. The axis side developed planes that were meant to counter those planes and achieve technological parity again. That they were not able to build and fly enough of those due to reasons that had nothing to do with those new designs directly, should be of secondary importance in a game that seeks balancing. What I mean is, in the game both sides are supposed to be balanced and equal, no matter when in the war the currently played battle took place. To achieve that you kind of have to treat it as if the fighting forces would still have been equal at that time. If you'd want to make it totally realistic, I suppose you'd have to make the game tell players: "Sorry, you can't play on the German side in this campaign/battle today, because Germany didn't have enough fuel to get that many aircraft in the air and we need to have 5 times as many Allied planes as German ones to make it realistic." My point being that realism has to be curbed anyways to make the game playable and fun. In late war battles having a plane in the air that only existed in small numbers would still make sense, because every German plane, even the 109 G-14 or K-4 was only active in small numbers at that time and 20 D-11/12/13s or 44 Ta-152 would suddenly realistically have made a significant percentage of all the German planes still active. Of course it would only be fair to give the Allies planes that have only been used in small numbers towards the end of the war too, like the Griffon Spitfires or the Bearcat.

  • @SheriffsSimShack

    @SheriffsSimShack

    2 жыл бұрын

    @TrangleC IL-2 does not strive for balance when its about technical details and plane availability. There is no plane in the game to counter plane X of the other side. The sim does not care about material shortages, or man power etc. G-14s and K-4s were standard LW planes and build in large numbers.

    @@Entity282 He178 wasn't 'operational' - it was essentially a technology demonstrator and not a practical design for a combat aircraft. Even the He280 was little better, it's performance not much of an improvement on current piston engine designs. The Italians also flew a ducted fan high bypass compressor in 1940 with a crude afterburner, the Caproni Campini N1. It was ponderously slow, had a low service ceiling of only 15,000ft, drank prodigious quantities of fuel and the latent heat from the engine would cook the pilot unless he flew with the canopy open! But an interesting concept none the less. Jet engines had been tested as early as 1918, but none were economical or gave any useful advantages the early 1940s.
