Love this video. I truly believe...cuffing is ones own style and how you feel when you look in the mirror. I am 47 years young and started cuffing my jeans this year (showing ankle...with a very low sock or a no-show sock) and it looks really good I think. I have gotten so many compliments this year on my "new" look (not just my pant cuffing), it's been so nice. I would like to thank you for some of this John, I watch your videos and after losing 80 pounds, my entire "look" (wardrobe) has obviously changed!!!👍

I think some of my favorite videos is when you cover men’s fashion and your “personal opinions.” I am fortunate to have a great seamstress 5 minutes from my home & I have taken quite a few pants to have them taken up and narrowed. John, I still think you are the person men (at least I) would hire for a consultation & shopping expedition.

I know a few years back, pants (chino and jeans) everyone was letting them bunch up and that was the look. But now with pants slimming down, I think it doesn’t look good breaking/bunching up too much as before. Yeah. I have some new pants and need to hem them bc I normally buy 32” lengths but on the slimmer chinos, they look not right. I think part of this is bc many are wearing slimmer chinos with no break or higher to show their ankles and shoes. Thanks for the video.

Informative video. But for me, though I prefer the "straight leg" version of jeans and chinos, my rather thick calves make me a bit self-conscious about that style. When I get up from a seated position, my straight-leg trousers are caught on my thick calves and while standing, I wonder if the trousers look too narrow. Recommendations?

Great info ! Formal attire should be worn with no cuff, and at least touching the top of the shoe or with a slight break in the front. While the over all "high water" look exposing the ankle , or contrasting length dropping below the heel in the back of the shoe are no go's. Thanks for sharing . . .

I think it should be noted that if the length is just above the shoe or with minimal break than when sitting it will expose the leg and socks more than you might like. So I think just a tad bit of a break is just enough.

Whether is it short, medium and long break all three choices are of individual preference. I prefer the old school style of dressing. I like to wear high waist pants, semi baggy cut with long droop break and one and a half inch cuff of course. Dressing is a very subjective preference. To each their best.

It's good you made this video, but it would be good to know what would be general guide to how much taper form the knee down. Or how much would a typical hem width be (measuring one side flat ). Also with regards the length touching the shoe, ( I know this might be silly question ) would this be still valid if wearing socks ?

I tried the cuffed jeans look for about five minutes but honestly, I just felt it made me look like I bought jeans too long and just said "F it". In the past (when I was in junior high and actually had pants that were too long) I just couldn't get them to stay cuffed/rolled up. At some point they just fall down and get stepped on, which is very annoying especially when raining or in the winter. Personally, I feel properly hemmed jeans or any other type pants is the safest way to go. Pinrolling may be in right now but what about a year or two from now? I just can't be bothered to follow fashion that closely.

This Goes for my 'Jackets as well...Would it make 'sense' to have them 'Adjusted'.. ...or do i have to SPEND Big Bucks On a New Wardrobe?...Would Appreciate Your Guidance/Suggestion! Agree on most of what you've said except for the 'excessive tapering' issue that seems to still be prevalent today. I really don't think it works well for classic style dress trousers especially if u have an athletic build (muscular thighs and calves) and start looking like u have legs like a string of sausages a la Daniel Craig! It also accentuates big feet which look like large rowboats, clownish! Middle of the road would be my recommendation .

That’s a tough call, sorry you’ve had that experience. My only advice would be to find an actual tailor, not a partial tailor in a dry cleaning business. Find someone that does military uniforms, and wedding dresses. They tend to have a higher skill set.

Hi Jon, may I give you all a buying recommendation, even if slightly out of topic? buy clothes in your home country!!! people from different areas of the world have different body proportions, legs length/girth/waist rate, shirts torso/shoulder/sleeves/collar rate. I come from a Mediterranean country and I live in the UK. I hardly find clothes that fit my body shape in the UK (I'm 179cm, 65kg, in metric system).

You have in UK: Next, marks and spencer and debenhams. And what I like in Next is they have wide range of chinos and jeans with different cuts and different length of inseam. I am 176cm 88kg and most of my wardrobe from Next.

@@abbasalkawiz2228 indeed! I like Gap and River Island too. I'm saying that the same company makes different products to different countries to fit the average body parts proportion. You now remind me I'm not having a walk in Oxford St since last march, thx pandemia!

Hello John, You know what I noticed about men fashion channels. I never ever see or seen information about fall , spring or summer golf outfits. Something that might be interesting. What do you think? Only because I play golf.

@@abbasalkawiz2228 that's great once you already know your actual size. I don't know that because I lost 10kg during the lockdown. Thank you for the tip. I appreciate.

Good basic knowledge as usual. Finding someone to shorten jeans is not as easy as it sounds. Special equipment is necessary to do it properly and asking for 1/2" shorter adds a major expense to the already overpriced item.

It's a great video about men's pants length. Jeans or pants too long are ugly. When it's too short (when your socks are visible), even if it's a trend right now, it's not nice neither. One break is perfect. I am not a fan of cuffed jeans or chinos. In my opinion it's better to have them tailored.

Hi Doug, there’s no real correlation other than they should each be the correct length. Not too long, not too short.

Massive cuffs on any trouser (see 4:45) is the exact reason why so many take the piss out of US fashion. That look was in during the 1990’s, never since.
