Probably safer to buy one of the refill adapters and fill the 1 lb tanks off a 20 lb. Crimp connections in hoses don't react well to heat. Learned my lesson, was replacing air brake hoses on a truck. The truck was from a hatchery and they used a disinfectant that corroded everything. I cut the hose off and had the fitting in a vice and was heating it with a torch to try and extract the hose fitting from another fitting and the bit of hose blew out of the crimp like a speeding bullet. Was lucky I was not standing over it

Your warning has been much appreciated. The General rule of thumb is to do not have anything less than 12 inches from a double wall, fuel burning appliance that is not flame resistant. With a single wall, that extends to 24 inches. In my opinion, a 24 inch copper line would've served you fine for the feed line.

Be careful with the camper stove as well. People salvage them from campers but never install them the way they were in the camper with appropriate venting. There is usually a metal vent that is installed through the roof of the camper or out through the wall. The assess panel works as an vent also. Don’t cover it. Install camper units, stove, fridges and furnaces exactly as they were in the camper. Some setups have both the small chimney stack pipe with roof cap and the louvered vent at the back. Diy’ers often don’t salvage or use these vents when reinstalling stoves and fridges in cabins or workshops. This makes the new installation extremely dangerous. Open flame combustion can be very safe if installed properly. Additionally a (blow back prevention valve) is available at most hardware stores for gas lines. A propane line can suck flame back through the line to the tank in the event of a damaged line. This blow back valve prevents any pressure or flame from going in the opposite direction to the tank. Mandatory in many states and an inexpensive safety measure everywhere. Hope this helps. Retired inspector including propane installations. Be safe not sorry.

i prefer not to use direct bottle mount or rubber lines. I like the small square base ones, with hard line and regulator. You may have to prop the bottle at a 45 angle with a rock or digging out dirt, but this makes it very stable and you can feel if the hardline gets warm or not. rubber lines need a LOT of air clearance near the heat source

I've also read that (I think dickinson marine but not 100% sure..If you want me to find it, just ask and I'll hunt it down) it's better that no type of tape be used near their burner. I think this was for the joint near the burner of their cosy cabin heater. Yes, I found that odd too, unless the heat at that point exceeds 268 degrees C, Teflon's limits.

Some propane regulators are designed to significantly reduce the flow of gas if it senses an excess flow of propane. It may not have stopped the hose from blowing off but it could have prevented a catastrophic release of propane. The keyword here is "reduce" as it doesn't completely stop the flow of propane, it only reduces the flow to a trickle.

Same with refilling those tanks, you physically can try, especially with the variety of fittings you can find on eBay they will sell anything; however, that doesn’t mean you should do that. There is a reason there is another valve on these tanks because that is how they are filled. When you try to push gas past the inlet it freezes open I hope you’re not holding a cigarette because once your hand freezes to one of the tanks you aren’t going very far at all and it is spewing at a rate fast enough to cause anything to stick to it. The flatulence of this guess absolutely can be Ignited by the smallest spark including but not limited to lighters refrigerator compressors, automotive air-conditioning compressors especially can’t create sparks. I’m surprised they do not say to turn your air conditioning or heat off but instead they say teacher in the entire vehicle off this is the best idea but who wants to learn firsthand why they say not to do things? Someone has already won that Darwin award if you want to go on ahead for the sake of humanity prior to spreading your seed

This is scary, my ex girlfriend's ex boyfriend lit their hot water heater outside where the water heater is and the burner malfunctioned and he basically lit a blow torch and wasn't familiar with propane water heaters and didn't know, I guess he went back into the house and it was super loud, they run next door and got her dad and he immediately went out to the little room outside and he said the water heater was glowing and said it was like a freaking flame thrower.
