    OMG, if you only knew how long I have been searching this!!! THANKS. now my stove is a coleman but I think it should work the same at least the fittings seem to be the same. The important piece I think is the regulator with the 0-30psi adjustment! I spent 5 hours over the weekend trying to make the blackstone 90 degree thing work but the fitting (internal valve doesn't work) also I think that the blackstone are suppose to work with low pressure. Anyway I am looking forward to make this work for my application! I will make my own video for my channel and give you credit for sure!

    Great to hear that it helped. I found that only 5-10psi needed to run the stove (in my case) Good luck

    Hi Bud, well I finally got my conversion to work. I think you may be interested in what I found. The die size you had used was an 8mm x .75 pitch. That is the equivalent to 33.86 TPI. The problem is that is not the right thread. If you use a thread gauge you will find that it is a 40 TPI on the coleman stove. In metric that comes out to a pitch of .635. They do not make a metric with that pitch. I ordered a 5/16 x 40 TPI and I finally received it yesterday. It is not a common size and was difficult to find. It worked great though for what I did to make my conversion. I also ordered the same adjustable regulator that you used. I did not like it at all and am sending it back. I did not like the way it attached to the cylinder and the hose is very stiff. I went a different route and made my own hose and purchased an individual regulator. It really works great. I tried to do this years ago and never finished it. I had contacted Coleman and they were not interested in even letting me talk with the Engineers. I actually thought this conversion was hopeless and I was going to have to settle for the throwaway green bottles. I finally after all these years was able to get my coleman stove to work with my conversion. I just finished it today. April 7, 2023. I did a lot of research and trial and error and finally had success. I hope this is helpful to you. I now will be using a couple 5 gallon tanks in my truck camper instead of the green bottles. I also purchase an adapter for the green bottles that I can screw right into the regulator if I want to use them. I move my stove from the inside of the truck to the tailgate and also to picnic tables often. This will make it much more convenient with my quick connect set up now.

    Thank you for sharing that this is actually "5/16 x 40 TPI" rather than "M8 x 0.75". I had come to the same conclusion, however when seeing this video I was about to order the 'wrong' one. Much appreciated!

    The video description does not mention that you'll also need a 1/4" Male NPT x 3/8" Male Flare Fitting and a 1/4" Female NPT x Female Quick Connect with shutoff valve for the pressure regulator hose.

    @BudNixon unfortunately a dark cloud appeared in my life. The engine in my 4runner died and had to wait for a rebuild. 2 months after I got the 4runner back from the shop, someone decided they needed my 4runner for parts and stole it from my driveway. They also stole all my camping stuff, fridge, solar, recovery gear, spare parts, and tools. They even stole the glove box. So I'm rebuilding after CHP finally located it. So, long story short, I never got a chance to build one.

    sorry for belated reply, As far as Buddy heater, I would assume so. Main thing to keep in mind is the pressure regulator - must be one that fits requirements of the heater you are to hook up, as far as pressure allowed through it. I believe that heaters are different from stoves.

    Been looking to make this conversion myself for a long time. I appreciate your video but things are not clear to me. I ordered all the stuff you had listed to make this conversion. You did not show how to connect the hose to the quick release fitting. There is notadapter with the hose or the quick disconnect to hook the hose to. You also did not show that in the video. Could you please explain or make another video with this included. I am confused.

    Hi Bud, I took my stove completely apart and took the stem out of the regulator that comes with the stove. I ordered the tap and die that you mentioned. 8mm x ,75 pitch. Not sure how you came up with that size but it is not correct. If you check it out with a thread gauge you will see that the .75 pitch is close but is not the right size. So when you put that in it is close but is not really the correct size. I am interested in how you actually came up with that size? I hope this helps anyone else that is trying to make this conversion.

    @@budnixon Hi Bud, I was surprised to get a response from you. I am in the process of making the conversion myself. I will tell you that the .75 pitch is I not the correct thread size. It is also very difficult to get that particular Die that you mentioned. 8mm x .75. I was able to find one on Amazon but there is not one local store in the Milwaukee area that carries that particular size. It is a very uncommon pitch size. Regardless of that it is not the correct one to use. I ordered one and am sending it back because it is not the correct size. You need to get a pitch gauge and you will see that. I am sure you were able to get it to work as the threads are so fine and since it is going into a brass fitting it is cutting its own threads as you turn it in. Essentially it would be similar to cross threading. With sealant it probably will work ok. I have ordered a different tap and die that I think is the correct one. I will be working on it this week when I get all the parts. I started looking into this years ago but never was able to get much information. I contacted Coleman and they were useless in getting me any help. They would not let me talk with the engineers. I emailed them and never heard back from them. This is very typical of companies that really are not interested in improving their products. Another example of NO real customer service. I think I found an inexpensive way to make this conversion. The problem is always a liability concern that someone will do it wrong and then there will be a lawsuit. I would be willing to talk to you or communicate with you personally about this. I actually think this conversion could be made a lot more simple then anyone would realize. I offered Coleman my help in regards to making a kit available to the public regarding the conversion to a Quick Connect system using a larger tank. As I mentioned I never even got a response. I am surprised that some engineer has not figured this out and provided a kit that would be available to the public. They could sell it through China to avoid all liability. The Coleman stoves are made there anyway and shipped here. I honestly believe they continue to make this stupid regulator that hangs out there which is inconvenient every time you want to move the stove or set it up. All the talk about being GREEN and saving resources is just that. ALL TALK. They are not interested in conserving and saving energy. They are only interested in the money $$$$$. If I was younger I would redesign a good camping stove and sell it under a different name. I

  • @budnixon

    @budnixon

    Yes, as the threads are larger step, and new ones are much finer. Plus keep in mind that brass is very soft, so process is pretty easy (at least was in my case) I use red thread locker (thread glue) - which seals it better than teflon tape (in my opinion anyway)

    You should get some of the refillable 1 lb tanks. You can get a kit to fill them yourself or some places which refill tanks can refill them. Never buy the disposable tanks and don't refill the disposable tanks. Why not use a 1lb adapter for the quick connect? That way you can still use the regulator.

    I've heard a lot of folks commenting on "danger" of use&refill of the green ones, while i've personally never talked to anyone who'd any problems, or been hurt in any way through that process, so for now I feel comfortable enough to stay with that decision. Reusable ones are outrageously overpriced (IMHO), and possibly one day I'll spare $50 for one, but not ready at the moment. Personally, been doing this for many years, never had any problems. I do my best to inspect cans prior to refill, exercise pre-cautionary measures (such as ventilation/standing away from the can, etc). My refilled cans been with me on my trips as well, in all sorts of elevation gains and temperature ranges, so far - not a hick up.
