Yes, great album and band - completely unique. This kind of music is always helped by strong singers and the band had two of them, assured and also very good-looking. The German accent is really cool too. Many people at the time pointed out the buried ABBA influences in the band and their sound - the tune and production here have a definite kinship with some songs by the Swedish quartet.

I was a teenager in the 1980s…. The videos were so amazing. The art, the fashion, music was simply so different. At that time every band was just experimenting and creating very cool innovative works of art. There will not be a time like this again.

You had many different bands and everything sounded unique. Regardless or whether you liked it or not. The problem now is, most of the mainstream music is produced by only a handful of people, which explains why everything sounds so bland and samey in comparison to say anything pre 2005.

We had so much fun. I was 10 in 1980, so all my teenage years were in the 1980's. Looking back, to be at the best age, in London the best city, in the best decade was to win the lottery of life. Happy days !

It brings me so many pleasant sensations. I was young in the 80s, I think it was my most fun time, when you start to discover the world for yourself. Just then a wide range of new musical trends opened up, each with its own 'look' (some scandalized former 'hippies' who at the time boasted of having done the same with rock and its variants). I suppose it is due to an eternal generational dispute, that "in my time they made good music" or "now nothing good is made"!!... I grew up in the '70s with my older sister's music (she liked to share her albums and tell me things about musicians she discovered), and as soon as she could she took me to concerts that I really enjoyed!... When the decade changed I linked up and tried to listen to everything I could and more. That's why I remember it with so much passion; I had a really great time!! 🎶💞

Recently re-discovered this song by chance after 30 odd years.. Now having to listen to it incessantly to make up for it. I can't think of a more underrated song ever produced. Might've only hit 21 in the charts when released, but it wipes the floor of any sh*t produced now.

William Main Mental reading your entry, I was in majorca in 1985 when this was played all the time on spanish radio and obviously after the song each time I kept hearing them say propaganda and duel but I never knew which was the group name and which was the song then about 25 years later I'm in an hmv shop and in front of me is propagandas secret wish....I was blown away-even checked to see if duel was on it, like you I really couldn't believe I'd found it-strange to read your story though, deja vu..ish

Another platinum production from Trevor Horn. He gave Propaganda an almost operatic soundbed. The track is lyrically dramatic and he really amped that up to deadly effect!

@@strictlynorton This was actually produced by Horn's "understudy", Stephen Lipson. As far as I know, Dr Mabuse was the only Propaganda track produced by Horn.

I remember this from June and July of 1985, hot and sunny at the time Of Live Aid, Scritti Politti, Steve Arrington, China Crisis, Madonna and Paul Hardcastle on the radio. I was 9 that summer And it was probably the first one I remember vividly.

Demorei 30 anos para localizar uma música do Vangelis, que ouvi em 1978, não sabia o nome da música e nem quem cantava, mas o som ficou na minha memória por causa de um filme.

I simply love this song!! Such good memories from my teens years in Brazil. Then I moved to Germany in the year 2000 to a city very near from Düsseldorf. And then I discovered that this great band is from Düsseldorf. 😃

March 2024 here. Wow, this is as magical, beautiful and avant garde today as it was 40 years ago. What a privilege to be a teenager when this song was launched and live through the 80s. Huge thanks to this group. Hope they are "still kicking" somewhere

Yes indeed, great song and video - I too first heard the band forty years ago and have owned a copy of the album for almost as long. This is such a cool theatrical video (just like the magnificent clip for "Dr Mabuse"!) and I love how they are letting Claudia do the singing in a stage situation, while Suzanne illustrates some of what the song is about.

One of the forgotten classics. I had this on my headphones, full volume. A great joy to hear it again after so long. Big smile here. Time listen again me thinks.

I believe it is; it means the more you get hurt, the harder it is to stand up again. A human can stand pain, but to much in a short time, is bad, therefor, the last cut will have you on your knees is like, it will take much more time to heal......(this is my interpretation)
