I should clarify the link between Golden Distribution and Metazoo if you don't know. They are Metazoo's distributor, when you order something from the Metazoo Marketplace it comes from Golden Distribution. That's where it's stored and shipped. And Shaw who remains one of the few owners left at Metazoo, also runs Golden Distribution.

Was shaw confirmed as an owner? What's been public knowledge is Mike and Aoki are the owners and Shaw worked as the CFO. Shaw was the one to ok payouts to players and judges, that's why I say CFO.

@@LolCowTCGmy understanding is that all 4 had stake in the company including Andy. And when Mike and Andy left Aoki and Shaw got their stake in the company. What I’ve been told is Shaw and Aoki are the only two people left at all when it comes to Metazoo, Shaw is dealing with all the mess and Aoki was trying to find a buyer but not involved much with the actual cleanup was the last update I heard. Assuming there is no buyer it sounds to me like it’s up to Shaw to finish the cleanup and or bankruptcy process. I would also assume that Shaw would’ve only accepted ownership if he thought there was going to be a sale so I’m imagining he got screwed bad in all this

i definitely appreciate the videos. ironically enough metazoo reignited my childhood love for collecting cards just back in oct of 2023. i loved playing it and teh art on the cards are fantastic. it really fuckn sucks metazoo died and i guess knowing the story would give me a sense of closure lmao. ive transitioned fully to yugioh and am enjoying the hell out of it, so ill always be grateful to metazoo

Your comment resonates with me. Exact same story except for me it’s MTG now and I got into Metazoo in 2021. Didn’t touch cards for like 10 years before that.

If there's any justice in the world, someone in Metazoo management needs to go to jail/prison and/or be personally liable for all the pre-order and tournament money scammed from us Metazoo fans and players. Mike, Andy, Shaw, the list goes on - there were so many criminally negligent or with ill intent running the company. Thank you for keeping them accountable Nick 🙌

Hey Nick! Please continue with your updates videos and MZ openings for as long as your heart is still in it. Who cares if Metazoo is dead, it’s still a hobby many of us still love despite the current state of things. There are many collectibles, trading card games, cartoons/shows and so on that have been long gone and are still widely talked about today. This is because of people like you that keep them alive for the fans that remain. Thanks for all you do!

Hello, Nick. I think this is my first comment. I never bought or played MetaZoo. I don't really know much about the characters they're based on. I think I read an article about the "letter to the community" and when I searched for followup content about it one of your videos happened to come up and that's just how I ended up here. Your videos on MetaZoo news are super interesting and I've pretty much kept up with what happens in MetaZoo mostly through your vids since then. Went a couple months back and watched this all unfold in reverse up to around the Kuromi's Cryptid Carnival situation. (and watched a couple opening and mail day vids, just for funsies) So definitely keep on doing your videos, because they're interesting and noteworthy even for a total non-participant like me.

The fact that so much product was dumped at their office (if the photo is not doctored) makes me think what if it was court ordered? Maybe it's a stipulation to them dissolving their company? Like maybe they aren't allowed to sell a single item and it was ordered destroyed in full view or something? Just a guess.

Ex partner/content creator here, loved the art & our community we had. So many real memories. But, as a partner MW/MZ made it tough to keep it going. They expected us to pay 5K per release to sell boxes. They tried charging us for tournament kits. Then folded and made us pay shipping. In addition, your $140 boxes only costed partners $55. Which was more than a 60% markup. Tbh it’s kinda crazy looking back they never told us we were getting promos they dropped and expected us to buy it off their website along with consumers - then after they “sold out” they sold it to us for 1/3 the price they listed it for. It’s a shame they gouged their players and couldn’t just be happy with the small profit they could’ve made if they focused on the fans. I’m glad I got out when I did and put the money into other viable tcgs. Other stores nearby who carried it practically branded themselves as metazoo stores and lost a majority of their investments on the biggest blunder of tcgs; metazoo

Accountant here, the only thing that that can effect a prior year's taxes in the current year is contributions to a qualified retirement plan. Writing off or disposing of bad inventory will only impact 2024. Since you have to make quarterly estimated payments it could have been disposed as a limit for those quarterly estimated tax payments but, since the company has ceased operations the only thing left for them is incur costs of dissolution so no money would even need to be sent to the IRS since your are basically guaranteed losses in 2024. That being said shipping and fees of booster boxes tends to be around $12 and UFO boxes are selling on TCGplayer for $25 and only 1 sells per day. Selling pallets of a less desirable product would take conceivably years and isn't worth the effort to store, sort, and ship a small warehouse of product where the costs of lights, heating and rent likely a few thousand a month and the revenue is maybe a few hundred a month.

I spent a total of 60$ on a metazoo UFO box. Opened it and never tried the game in any way ever again.
