On May 14, 1948, a new state appeared on the world map - Israel. Finally, after two thousand years of exile, the Jews could reunite in the Promised Land.
The new episode of ‘How It Was’ is dedicated to the dramatic history of the creation of Israel. We will recall when and why the mass migration of Jews to Palestine began and how Theodor Herzl managed to inspire Jews worldwide to create their own country. You will learn how the post-war superpowers decided the fate of Jews and Arabs in Palestine; how it turned out that, despite the irreconcilable hostility, the positions of the USSR and the United States regarding Israel suddenly coincided.
We will discuss why Stalin, being a fierce opponent of Zionism, supported the creation of Israel; and why the very next day after David Ben-Gurion proclaimed the establishment of the Jewish state, five neighbors at once declared war on the newly born country.

    So apparently, Czechoslovakia built weapons for the Nazis, who killed millions of Jews, half of which were Russians, and then a couple of years later, those same weapons were shipped by Stalin, who killed millions of his own people, including Jews, over to a country from which Jews had been ousted by Romans, to kill Arabs (It seems then it would have made more sense if they'd been given Italy as retribution), and then some years later, Russians gave Palestinians some weapons to kill Jews, Americans gave Jews some weapons to kill Arabs, at the same time giving more weapons to other Arabs to kill Russians, only to have those weapons used against themselves years later, while Palestinians, who lost their state because of Russians, now support Russians killing Ukrainians, who get their weapons from... Well, it just goes in circles...

    The Balfour Declaration was a public pledge by Britain, declaring its aim to establish "a national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine. The statement came in the form of a letter from Britain's then foreign secretary, Arthur Balfour, addressed to Lionel Walter Rothschild, a figurehead of the British Jewish community. But the declaration was by no means formulated and decided upon overnight - rather, it had been in the works for years, involved many people and was drafted numerous times before being sent out. The pledge is generally viewed as one of the main catalysts of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948 and the creation of the Zionist state of Israel.. Dear Lord Rothschild, I have much pleasure in conveying to you. on behalf of His Majesty's Government, the following declaration of sympathy with Jewish Zionist aspirations which has been submitted to, and approved by, the Cabinet. His Majesty's Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavours to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine, or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country. I should be grateful if you would bring this declaration to the knowledge of the Zionist Federation. Yours sincerely, Arthur James Balfour.

    I believe we should call for a referendum. The most rightful thing is a referendum made by true original land owners (Palestineans, including native Palestinean jews) and they decide the state they want. Simple. Very simple. It's not a thousands of years matter. Otherwise, the immigrants who stole the land should go back to where they came from.

If your going to talk about history tell it all. Wake up do you think the European jewish people were the only ones being killed? The Jewish people have gone through so much in the middle east arab countries. They were exiled from the land killed and sold into slavery. Palestine had the peel commission where the Jewish people would only get 20% of the land and they didn't want to accept it. They felt the land was the arabs land and didn't think the middle east Jewish people deserved there own state.

I suggest then searching, *_"Palestinian leader Hazem Nusseibeh admits to false reports of rape at Dier Yassin"_* then educate yourself, the book, *_"The Massacre that Never Was"_* by Eliezer Tauber. As for Plan Dalet, that is the fourth letter of the Hebrew alephbet. What did the other 3 lettered reports say? And what was Plan Dalet really? As for leaving things out, what about the Arab's 5 month blockade of Jerusalem that precipitated the Dier Yassin attack? What about the 1880 Petak Tikva Massacre of Jews? What about the 1929 Hebron Massacre of Jews? All these things done before there was any Israeli State.

    @@gogotrapx9339 Before Dier Yassin, there was the Petak Tikva massacre in 1880, the Jerusalem massacres in 1921, the Hebron Massacre of 1929. Go search why Dier Yassin was attacked. Search, *_"The massacre that Never Was"_* by Eliezer Tauber. As for Plan Dalet, Dalet is the fourth letter in the Hebrew alephbet. The plan only registered where there was infustructure so the Israeli army could use that information for the war effort started by 5 Arab armies attacking the one day old country of Israel.

    Was that a photo of a BF 109 with the star of David under the wing? it was at the end of the video showing the aircraft shipped to Israel?

    Yes. No country including America would sell arms to Israel except Czechoslovakia. Wha they sold to Israel was a horrible variant of the Bf109 that the pilots called the Czech mule. Either the engine or the propellers were designed for heavy bomber and not really suitable for fighters but it was all Israel could get. In literally the first few days of the war the entire Israeli air force consisted of 4 of these fighters. An Egyptian column of tanks were coming up the highway just 15 miles from Tel Aviv and these 4 places turned them back. One plane was lost and one crashed on landing. (the Bf109 had horrible landing characteristics). If you're interested and have a chance read the book "Above and Beyond", the story of the very early Israeli Air force, mostly foreign volunteers.

    ​@@shevetlevi2821 yes it was both tge engines and propellers that were replaced. It was also some of the flight controll surfeces that were replace. It was also nicknamed the dagger, couse of how danderous it was. From what i read jt was horrible on the ground, and often would just crash and injure the pilot isteade of taking off. However in the air it was supposedly even deadlier then a 109.... That is until they discovered the problem with the propellers wich couse of mulfanctioning synchronization with the canons could have been shot down, which led to 2 acctual deaths of their best pilots at the time. Luckily this could have been easily fixed. Unfortunatly czechslovakia n comunists werent rly keen on doing that and blamed the pilots, so the izrael just bought spitfires.

    The measures that led to the formation of the Zionist regime were contrary to international law at the time. According to article 22 of the Covenant of the League of Nations, Britain had no sovereignty over Palestine and should have allowed the exercise of the right to self-determination, namely, holding a free referendum with the participation of all inhabitants of Palestine. Even after the establishment of the United Nations, whereas the Charter of the United Nations had included completely specific rules regarding territories like Palestine (Chapter XI, Articles 73 and 74), these regulations were not taken into account. Even resolution 181(II) A of the United Nations General Assembly in November 1947 on the partition plan for Palestine also was not implemented because the Palestinian Arabs were against it. Therefore, at the time of the formation of the Zionist regime, the right to self-determination of the people of Palestine was completely disregarded.

No other people in human history-except the Jews-sought to give this land independence. Indeed, the Jewish people had sovereign nations in the Land of Israel from 1405-586 BCE and 530 BCE-70 CE. They also had other smaller independent states during the intervening years, such as in the Tiberias area between 1558 and 1564. For centuries, the Jewish population in the Holy Land-many of whom managed to survive persecution, forced conversion and exile-spoke the same language and held the same customs as their scattered brethren around the world, until the exiles returned to resume sovereignty in their ancestral homeland. In fact, Arabs are the most successful colonizers ever: The irony of accusing Jews of colonizing Arabs is that the opposite is true. The Palestinian-Arab people belong arguably to the most successful colonizers in world history. Today, there are 22 Arab nations and 57 Islamic countries. Over 1.8 billion people are Muslims, constituting around a quarter of the entire global population. While we read about and academics blithely reference the “Arab world”-which stretches across North Africa and the Near and Middle East-few mention that this entity was created largely by the violent subjugation of local indigenous peoples. Infrequently, we hear about Berbers, Yazidis, Arameans, Zoroastrians and Copts. These and many more, along with Jews, are examples of pre-Islamic peoples, cultures and religions that were either wiped out or forced into an Arab or Muslim culture. Dozens of languages, cultures, religions and peoples that we only know from archeology did not survive the Arab armies of the seventh century onwards.

    The measures that led to the formation of the Zionist regime were contrary to international law at the time. According to article 22 of the Covenant of the League of Nations, Britain had no sovereignty over Palestine and should have allowed the exercise of the right to self-determination, namely, holding a free referendum with the participation of all inhabitants of Palestine. Even after the establishment of the United Nations, whereas the Charter of the United Nations had included completely specific rules regarding territories like Palestine (Chapter XI, Articles 73 and 74), these regulations were not taken into account. Even resolution 181(II) A of the United Nations General Assembly in November 1947 on the partition plan for Palestine also was not implemented because the Palestinian Arabs were against it. Therefore, at the time of the formation of the Zionist regime, the right to self-determination of the people of Palestine was completely disregarded.

    @@alembess9129 It is the right to resist an illegal state established in own land. It is legitimate regardless of consequences. They don't ask the help from anyone. It is a human initiative to help them by any means. I believe we should call for a referendum made by true original land owners (Palestineans, including native Palestinean jews) and they decide the state they want. Otherwise, the immigrants who stole the land should go back to where they came from.

    It doesn't matter how anyone ‘spins’ this. The fact is that in 1947, after Allied remorse, the Palestinians were removed from their land so that Jews could have it. Over 700,000 Palestinians were instructed to leave the homes their families had lived in for hundreds of years. That, and that alone, is the root cause of the problem. It really is that simple. Jews 'believe' that the land is historically theirs - it isn't. The Jews (Israelites) were a small tribe and hadn't been in Canaan, as it was then called, in any great numbers, for thousands of years. The demonym "Canaanites" serves as an ethnic catch-all term covering various indigenous populations-both settled and nomadic-pastoral groups-throughout the regions of the southern Levant or Canaan. Additionally these claims are based on the Old Testament part of the Bible - hardly a fact-based source of historical accuracy. However if the western powers, who enable Israel, truly believe that the Jews have a right to their 'homeland' then every single person in the US should leave and the Indigenous Indians take their land. As should all the white people of Australia, New Zealand and South Africa to the Aboriginals, Kiwis and the various tribes that existed there. All those of Spanish descent should leave Central and South America too. And every single Jew should support that. If it works one way it works all ways. I stand with Palestine.

    Didn't know till now that Russia had played such an important and proactive role in the formation of Israel. It would've been only natural for Israel and Russia to maintain close relations but obviously Russia chose the muslim world due to oil, money and huge geopolitical influence they could exercise over them.

If the Russians / Slavs considered themselves as Christians ( Eastern / Greek Orthodox), how is it then they started discriminating against and killing Jews when their Lord and Master himself was a Jew and asked everyone to love and forget. However, if His so-called 'followers' start behaving like the people they want to influence, no wonder Christians are not liked in many parts of the world. Christianity is not a religion of rituals, veneration of saints, doing good works, being busy living selfish lives, fighting with neighbours, conquering countries, subjugating your enemies, tolerating promiscuity etc. Knowing the Lord Jesus Christ is having a change of heart, loving God and your neighbour. The word love covers all the good actions a good person should do towards fellow humans.

The Russians supported Isreal initially but eventually when the roles turned the US did what they do best (conquer lands slowly) and got Isreal to be one of their puppet states. As a result of this, Russia started backing the Palestinians.; which they still do is to this day

    @@ProfessorBulletMG no one accepts an occupier. British Colonials should had left soon back in 1919. They postponed the independence. They didn't have good intentions. They are colonialists at the end. Balfour's visit, particularly his reaffirmation of British commitment to establishing a Jewish national home, further fueled Palestinian anxieties and fueled the flames of opposition. Had the colonialists had good intentions, they would have just left after a referendum to the Palestineans. Yet they refused. Assuming antisemitism had happened, today the world is safe for jews. Again, now and before, the problem is with Zionists and colonization not jews. Simply call for a referendum to the natives and peace wins. Be sure that all Palestinians truly wants the referendum, they all want the right to self-determination. Nobody wants a war or a genocide or anything like that.

    Incredible! As a WWII buff I find it interesting that the planes Israel bought from Czechoslovakia were the Czech version of the WWII German BF109 with a Junkers Jumo (also a German company) engine instead of the Diamler-Benz engine the Germans used. Ironic.

    This caused a funny encounter. An English volunteer flew one of our BF109 against against an Egyptian spitfire. And since many german pilots who had training but never actually flew came to fight with egypt there's a good chance in that battle we had a German in a spitfire and a English in a Messerschmitt fighting eachother although that detail is unknown for sure.

It was David Ben Gurion who took the initiative for the weapons deals. Stalin and Kaganovich had seen to it that all those weapon deliveries were effected by an American airline company. American instructors in a secret camp outside Prague trained Israeli pilots. All those weapons were produced in 1944-45 for Hitler's Nazi Germany and were intended for anti-British Arabs. The ammunition later used against the Arabs was marked both with swastikas and with Arabic letters.

    I fully agree with you brother. Most of the so-called Christians are not 'born again ' believers. A truly born again believer will have a desire and a thirst for God's mana, His Word. These baby Christians take God and His Word for granted. They are happy to remain as babies and never want to grow. Their church and their pastors are not different. They themselves are babies.     People are celebrating how a huge chunk of the world agreed with a group of people to give them someone else’s land. The Arabs racted to defend themselves over the decision “more than half of your land will be given to people that are half your numbers”. Then Israelis had help and advanced weapons from the Soviets to fight people with weapons that dont compare. And then they call it “prophetic”.     Before the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948, Jews and Palestinians lived together for centuries on the same land without any significant conflicts , they lived in harmony and mutual respect and the worked together in agriculture and industry. Then , the britons and the Zionist movement came and created this tragic conflict . Israel was not created to be the homeland for Jews , but a western colony in the Middle East , the policeman of the region who’s role is to keep the region unstable and at the brink of war all the time . Ordinary Jews are victims like Palestinians, because the were forced to leave their countries and to move into a foreign country where the do not belong .

    I lived in Israel from 1957 to 1960. It was an incredible experience. You could feel the enthusiasm as you walked the streets of Jerusalem, and I walked them daily. I witnessed the pride, finally, of concentration camp victims when eichmann was captured. No longer did these victims hide their tattoos of shame. I learned to speak, read, and write both Hebrew and Arabic, attracted to the beauty of the written word. I met camp survivors, Jewish as well as german and polish non Jewish. To this day, I cherish those wonderful years
