Could you please explain the prolonged latent phase . In latent phase itself they are saying that upto a time limit of 20hrs is for primigarvidae considered as normal but the definition says both first and second stage time limit should not exceed 18hrs could you please explain the importance of latent time duration in prolonged labor

It is not a very dangerous situation for the baby because the baby is still getting oxygen and the required substances to maintain life from the placenta through the umbilical cord. If somehow the cord gets compressed during the process then the FHR starts dropping and it is considered an emergency. If the FHR is normal then it does not severely affect the baby and the management can be carried out. Hope this helped. 🙂
