PROKOFIEV SONATA #6 PERFORMANCE by Barbara Nissman
This is a preview of the video masterclass devoted to the Three War Sonatas of Sergei Prokofiev. Created by pianist Barbara Nissman with a grant by the Prokofiev Family Trust in the UK, this video explores in depth his Sonatas 6, 7, and 8 followed by a concert performance after each masterclass by Nissman. Interviews with his grandson, composer Gabriel Prokofiev and his biographer, Harlow Robinson and the Russian expert on Prokofiev, Natalia Savkina are also included. An in-depth portrait of this misunderstood composer precedes the masterclasses on these three masterworks.

My best compliments, Madame. You impeccably and surprisingly made Prokofiev's hysteria.
I'm 21 and I've loved Prokofiev since I was a teenager. I used to listen to Richter play this on repeat with earphones in while in the back of the car if my parents were driving somewhere. If I can say this, this performance rivals the first time I ever heard it. Just wonderful.

Many thanks Simon- it's truly one of the masterworks! Will keep you posted about our video project. Think you might enjoy seeing it!
Terrific performance of a Prokofiev sonata which along with his 7th & 8th sonatas are among my favourites of all the great works written for the piano. I remember you seeing you play Prokofiev at the Wigmore Hall in London around thirty years ago and I've been a huge admirer since.

I agree it's a beauty- that movement always reminds me of a beautiful Gershwin tune!
Bravo!! What a breathtaking rendition, as is your Pierian recording. This work is a real monster and very underrated in the Prokofiev repertoire.

So true Mr. Fisher - SO true. This is such an incredible work.
You've grown so with this wonderful sonata. The last movement really shows such refinement, transparency and clarity - in a very good way. BRAVO! my dear friend.

Thank you. I think most people tend to forget how much joy there is ithroughout his music- even in these War Sonatas. He loved the piano - that was his comfort zone!
Seeing you perform here and other recordings of you sharing your knowledge on Prokofiev's work is really touching. Seems to really be a composer you identify with, and being a Prokofiev lover myself, it feels like a found someone who understands me. :) I started practicing the piano about 10 years ago, and a few weeks into it I was waiting for my lesson and heard my teacher practicing Prokofiev's 5th sonata for his recital. I've been listening to Prokofiev virtually every day since then ^^. I have an idea of what I like the most, which I think is the duality of the clockwork mechanical pace with the often heart-wrenching/painful lyricism of his melodies, but there is also this mysterious aura (maybe from the dissonances and the voicing of melodies) which I find intoxicating/hard to escape from. Thank you so much for sharing this new fantastic recording! I appreciate your work!

Outstanding! I know it must be difficult, because some of your facial expressions look like you are simultaneously trying to solve a hard problem in Chinese Algebra.
