Projection Screen Painting Process In Less Than 3 Minutes

Ғылым және технология

After a recent purchase of a projector for my video production business I quickly learned that the quality of your picture is highly based off the screen its projected on. After a few hours of trying to decide should I get a screen or should I paint the screen on the wall and call it a day. While comparing prices of all the latest HD & 4K technology I was shocked to find what this pre mixed gallon of GOLD cost. With Prices topping out at well over $800 for just one gallon of this stuff I needed to dig deeper to find out whats actually in this professional grade screen paint? If your in the same position I was then you need to watch this short video. I produced this video just to pass on what I learned simply because the blend of these 3 different paints worked amazingly, but most importantly the total project cost minus the projector was under $40. This special blend of paint can be picked up from your local Home Depot with the paint numbers I provided in this video.. If you find this video helpful be sure to hit the LIKE button. And by all means SUBSCRIBE!!

The recipe: Dark pewter 8 fl oz Black 0.25 quart Silver Screen 0.5 gal ...or in the same units of measure: Dark pewter 8 fl oz Black 8 fl oz Silver Screen 64 fl oz So the easier way to measure this out: first put in the dark pewter 8oz into mixing bucket. Then pour black into the 8oz can, then pour that into mixing bucket. Follow same idea for silver screen paint, but do that 8 cans of it (8*8=64oz). Cheers.

So you have 8 and 8 in the mixing bucket. Are you then mixing the full 64 into the bucket also? Thanks in advanced

Saved me around 700$ possibly more. Went to home depot and gathered all the listed paints. Used your formal of... Half of the silver screen gallon. The full tester bottle 8oz of dark pewter And instead of 1/4 black i used 3/8th quart. Maybe a tad less. For anyone watching write down the info on the cans themselves. Include the matte and semi gloss and how its described on the can not just the color. Include the base number and such. This paint on my 4k, 3d, 7000 lumen projecting works fantastically. I can really see the difference from going from an eggshell white wall to this strange dark bluish grey color. Beautiful color to paint an entire wall with. You sir saved me around 700$ for what this appears to be giving me. The blacks are very black, and the colors really just POP. In my own opinion... Anyone with a projector with around 2000-3500 lumen will be able to use the formula of 1/4 quart black. For people around 5k-6k lumen add a little more black. Brighter projectors like 7000 or over should probable use 3/8. Adjust accordingly. Hope this helps whoever's looking to improve their viewing pleasure.

Hi Sam, I am about to setup my home theater. but i don;t have a media room so it needs to be setup in the gameroom and that means fairly well lit room. at night its not an issue but during day time there's significant daylight. planning to put black curtains on the entry way. that said. will a daker gray mix be better for my room condition due to brightness of the room coupled with walls are satin neutral white color and that adds lot of light when the scenes are very bright its like the whole rooms is lit up. please suggest what kind of mix would be better for me given your experience. also i am considering painting my walls what kind of color do you suggest. thanks for help. srinivas

Your saving 700 hundred dollars and are projecting 5000 lumens at 4K? If budget is a concern, you should NEVER own a home theater quality projector. Buy an LG 86" 4K TV and save even more. (2000 dollars) Stop with painting walls to save money. How about a gray crayola crayon or marker. I'm looking to get into a Rolls Royce but, I saved money on the engine. I put a 1993 Honda Civic engine in it and painted the car with spray paint from Home Depot. Wow

Just got done with this mix had to buy a quart of the pewter instead of sample. I used the semi-gloss behr premium plus and measured around 8onces of both black and pewter with half silver screen. Home depo stopped giving semi gloss samples near me. This mix is the real deal and is amazing. No streaks! Amazing with ambient light and colors pop with true blacks. Thank you!

Sorry for such a delay my screen size was 120in I mixed half of the full Gallon the entire sample bottle and the quart was about 1/4 . When I was done I added a bit more from the gallon can just to lighten up the wall as it was a bit to gray for my Taste. I hope this helps.

If you make another batch, save a little and take it back to Home Depot and get a color match. They will give you a sticker with the exact colorant formula. That would be great if you were to post that. Thanks

I just installed my projector this weekend. My wall is currently painted tan so I really like the idea of using your method. My wall has a orange peel texture on it. Should I do anything special to it prior to painting or will it be OK the way it is?

Based on the mixed ratio given in the video, the color is kind of dark grey. I notice the finalized color is slightly lighter than it should be, and that happens to be the color I prefer. Should I just reduce the mix ratio of the black? Thanks.

The texture of the wall matters. Having an uneven surfice will take away the picture quality. A smooth even surface is preffered. Yes it would work... But not well.

i can't figure this out either (how much of which). from what i understand, you only used 1/2 gallon of the white paint? and 1 small of the pewter and 1/4 of the quart of black... so if i want to do an entire wall, i need 1/2 of the black and 2 of the pewter is that correct? i am painting over medium blue, should i use primer first (although the white already says paint and primer)?

  • @jpmorgan187

Yes a white primer is a good idea in you're starting out white a dark color like blue. The ratios of paints are: Dark pewter 8 fl oz Black 8 fl oz Silver Screen 64 fl oz = 0.5 gallon In my experience it takes about 32 oz to paint 80 square feet, which is a wall that's 10ft by 8ft. I am planning to do two coats, then 64 oz of total paint should be good. This above recipe has a total of 80 oz, so that should be good.

Marc Godfrey Hi , I have exactly the same question , it's kinda like there's no specifics ! I think it depends on the shade weather lighter or darker .. Eye monitoring , but in my opinion THE DARKER IT GETS THE BETTER ITS REFLECTS . I have had a great way tried it on many projects that requires a dye testing before I ruin everything , start painting a different shades of the colors (i.e. From light to dark grey) then test them all at once using your projector , look at the differences which one is giving you the best reflection . GOOD LUCK 🤓
