I’m not really sure if there’s going to be any future projects related to the pilot, as much as I’d like to be able to do it again. The longer I think about it, the more daunting it becomes to think about how much effort it’d take to do it a second time. The pressure to meet expectations would be immense and I’m not sure if I’d be able to catch lighting in a bottle like that again. Since the release of the project in November i’ve been on kind of a mental and creative burnout streak, but after stepping back and taking a considerable break it is sort of emotional and uplifting to see the amount of positive impact the episode has given people, so thank you!

I totally get it with the pressure and creative burnout yeah. It's always best to look out for your mental health before anything else. In all honesty, any future projects would just be extra to everything you have already accomplished with this one episode alone. So even without future projects, you and your team have already done more than enough. So thank YOU for this 😁

Project Tiger Moth is really something special. While The Good Old Days episode isn’t perfect (specifically with the lighting and Gordon’s model), I still appreciate that they tried to recreate the Thomas & Friends we know and love, which should be Mattel’s goal but obviously they could care less about what the fans want. I hope the Project Tiger Moth crew makes more episodes and fixes the model issues from before so that we can finally get new “Classic” Thomas & Friends episodes but if we don’t atleast we got to see the good old days one last time!

@@percyfan06 to be fair the model makers only had the ruler refs to work with, for percy, james and edward, their perspex models from the show are owned by thomastankmerch and apparently someone who worked on project tiger moth had some production made resin Thomas gift made during s5 so they based him on that. Toby's perspex model is in the void now but it was previously privatley owned by a crew member of the offical tv series so they (likely) had some access to orthos or they just used ruler references, Gordon's perspex model is with Mattel alongside Henry's so it's harder to crack down all the proportions without having it on hand.

I also LOVE how they played off the implied world building of Season Five. In Oliver's Find Oliver stumbles into Toby's branchline and the Fat Controller takes interest. In episodes after Toby is back in his old shed. His line or at least a small branch of it seemingly reopened some point inbetween. It's something that works just as well with the Fat Controller, he met Toby during holidays with his grandkids, so that old tramway has just as much nostalgia for him.

I fully agree that there is a danger to becoming obsessed with it. We will never bring back Thomas to the same spotlight that he once had. But we dont really have to. I must admit, Mattel did a great job giving Thomas a new charm with the CGI series, and then, they just had to f*ck it up. I bet Wilbert turned over in his grave when the reboot was launched, but... when The Good Old Days was released, i bet he smiled. I hope that Project Tigermoth will continue, but not if the Thomas fandom remains as toxic as it currently is. We have to be reformed in order to be worthy of seeing Wilbert`s legacy being revived and honored. My sincere humble thoughts.

The editing and score are top notch, but the writing is honestly kinda flat. Toby is sad because he's just standing around without a job to do, so instead of going to the fat controller and alerting him of this issue, he offers to do other engines' jobs. He screws up, comes across his old tramway, gets scolded by the fat controller, but then the fat controller suddenly announces that the Tramway is being repaired, without any intervention from Toby. Meaning... This whole episode could've been skipped, with none of the events in the episode ever happening, and Toby's old Tramway still would've been repaired. What was the moral here? Genuinely, do the characters learn anything from this?? It feels like the episode's only purpose was to build up to the "the good ol days are here to stay" line, and though it does an adequate job as a pilot, as a standalone episode, it simply feels like a HiT episode, but shortened with no out-of-character moments.

Project Tiger Moth is probably one of the most beautiful examples of talent in the Thomas and Friends fanbase. If there is one good thing that the current era of the franchise has shown, it's just how many wonderful people are out there who are so willing and dedicated to keep the true spirit of what this series was alive. Whether through toys, software, or in this case, actual props and models, these people will never forget what Thomas was for so many, and God bless them for it.

Even while Project Tiger Moth isn’t a 100% faithful recreation, I think it’s better that way. It fits brilliantly with Season 5 sure, but if it was a 100% accurate recreation, we’d lose some of the best part of Thomas; the fans. Project Tiger Moth stands as more than just a Season 5 episode, it’s a passion project from a fan, to the fandom. Even if we never see something like this ever again, I’m damn happy I was able to watch it live with everyone else.

It does maybe lean a bit too close to Toby's contemporary character in the later episodes, however I think there's one detail to note here, Toby wasn't self conscious or doubting himself, he was doubting the people in charge care about his work, that it's all about big new flashy engines and main lines now. This is very akin to his moping in his first appearance after his line closes down in the first place ("No one wants me"), Toby isn't one to think he can't do it (as shown when he takes a load a bit too beyond his limit), but he is one to maybe think others won't give him the chance.

I really enjoyed The Good Old Days. I cannot tell you how much I was screaming with glee after watching it for the first time and couldn't help but shed a tear. I do hope there could be more of Project Tiger Moth as Jacob Jarrett said that they hoped to do RWS adaptations as well. But given how he left Twitter earlier this year, and if it's a singular thing, I respect that. The title really gives a nice callback to the good old days of our childhood nostalgia. There are some things that makes me relate to Toby. I longed to have more of nostalgia despite being a now grown man, but we can replicate it to still feel young again in the best way possible. In terms of narration, I do love Robert Magee's AB narration of it and while Tom Marshall does a great MA take, I feel like a few of his lines aren't timed a little whenever each scene shifts. But that's just me. I'm hoping to hear what Britt Allcroft thinks of it. We heard her denounce AEG from many Facebook posts, so why not this?

They said Thomas as we knew it wasn't enough to keep it relevant in mainstream media, all right. They said that even before the present PAW Patrol-inspired reboot was a thing. I mentioned in Unlucky Tug's 'Magic Railroad' analysis video just how Thomas's first feature film venture, kind of, set the path for the divided expectations between the show-runners and the fandom of the franchise, by presenting a different idea to its interpretation from before. Mattel have tried to make it more hip in the past few years by emulating successes of other franchises; doing out-of-this-world sporty feats in "The Great Race"; making the humour and expressive desires feel more like "SpongeBob SquarePants" in "Journey Beyond Sodor"; making it try to be like "Sesame Street" in "Big World, Big Adventures"; and now taking the heed of "Paw Patrol" to turn its financial stance back in its favour. All good examples to take from, sure, but applying them to "Thomas & Friends", from clear evidence, did less to support the fundamental law of railway logistics that the franchise always followed more than they continued to steer the franchise's sense of identity away from it. Mattel may be good at marketing, but few there are established railway enthusiasts. We fans may not be all up to facing the commercial world, but we totally respect the legacy of the franchise for why it worked in the first place. (Comment following.)

While this is a valuable reflection, (and the episode indeed captures the essence of watching season five with a story that can very much connect the dots with the entire model series continuity, as mapped by the unlucky tug), I will always stand by the belief that it is always possible to capture the emotional essence of being in that nostalgic state of, “the good old days,” if you know how to recapture those moments. Remembering, and recapturing the joy, innocence, bliss, and nourishment quite frankly, of happy memories and making more of them; is truly something valuable I will always hold dear. It would be neat if an entire season of this model production sees the light of day, otherwise; we fans can enjoy the beautiful art of this episode, and all the hard work that went into it. At the end of the day, as described in the video; it is completely possible to re-capture the emotional essence of nostalgia, and the peace of mind while understanding the limitations of the present day. If you know how to approach the situation, and you know how to cultivate your dreams, I will stand by my heart felt belief that it is 100% possible to recapture those feelings, and even hold them as your life affirmation for what is your life purpose if you can answer that question for yourself. Let us fans continue to enjoy what we love, and maybe support the crew if they are ready to produce an entire season, (let alone connect the dots to the unlucky tug’s continuity). For the record, I can map the following season five episodes with the following fan episodes in this continuity. Oliver’s find, The good old days, Toby‘s discovery, Percy‘s viaduct, and Toby and the flood. My reason; though I mentally debated and edited this, Oliver rediscovers Toby’s old tramway in Oliver’s find, and Sir Topham Hatt gets intrigued in restoring the route, The restoration happens in the good old days, Toby explores the route further in Toby’s discovery, Percy complains about not having an adventure in Percy‘s viaduct where he gets his frightening comeuppance, Percy and Toby work the route during the storm in Toby and the flood, and Percy redeems himself from his viaduct shock by saving Toby. That is my proposed continuity, (after an edit), with season five, and the two fan episodes; even if the episodic continuity of season five is relatively loose as the unlucky tug explained. Of course there are a number of different interpretations and inspirations, yet we fans love this series for our heartfelt reasons. Long live the railway series and the early model seasons.

I think something underlooked that they really excelled at was mimicking the editing of the classic series editing in general is something oft overlooked in any production because if it’s standard and done it’s job well you aren’t supposed to notice it, but a lot of the atmosphere and specifically how a story can be told comes from the editing ttte’s style of editing absolutely needed to be good because the narration, music, and actual filming were pieces crafted separately from eachother that could’ve easily overpowered eachother with the wrong type of editing. But Michael Dixon, Rebecca de Burgh Mound, and especially John L. Wright were able to tie three amazing pieces to work in harmony with eachother. Nic (TheUnluckyTug) EXCELLED at mimicking Wright’s style of this, from the fast paced cuts to add extra tension to the runaways, to even things as subtle as choosing what shots to sync Gordon and Toby’s dialogue too. It was a real feat that Nic managed to get down the exact tricks Wright used when making the classic series and as an ammeter editor (via necessity) admirable that he was able to do something like that. I want to point this out because editing really can change, make or break something (look at how different TaTMR is to its original version or how jarring the use of stock footage is in Season 7 compared to previous seasons. And i just want to appreciate it because I know nobody else will take time to point these things out, which is understandable, as I said, editing is supposed to be unseen. But still, my heart goes out to Nic for being able to bring the most underrated aspect of the classic series back, if just for one more time. And of course the rest of the crew for doing the same with their sides of the production.

Awesome review, you described nostalgia perfectly! I can't be the only one that gets blinded by my nostalgia! Mine is mainly on VHS tapes, video and computer games, books and songs (and obviously Thomas). Luckily I do know my limits. Say for example, if I wanted to relive the experience of playing computer games back in the day, I won't go out of my way to buy a vintage computer to relive the experience because of two things: Most of said games are educational games that don't hold up too well, and my Freddi Fish games (Humongus point-and-click adventure games) can be easily emulated on SCUMMVM. Is it the same as running those games on a period-correct computer? No. Is it better than nothing, God yes! And far as VHS tapes, most of my nostalgic ones have been re-released in some modern form, but there are a couple that haven't, so that is my limit on that! Once again, awesome video!😁👌

It was a project born of passion, albeit one limited in scope and scale, which is where its major faults lie. In an age in which many Thomas content creators are doing incredible, more ambitious stories in Trainz and Roblox, it felt kinda quaint, though not bad by any means.

Personally, those behind Project Tiger Moth did a GREAT job. I still think Thomas, like just about every other good kids IP out there, deserves a proper return to the mainstream. Is AEG even that popular? I haven't heard much about kids actually liking it, I've actually heard kids actually HATE it! Personally, AEG would be NUMBER ONE of my Top 10 Worst Cartoons of The 2020s if it weren't for all those NFT cartoons like The Red Ape Family! If I were made the new owner of Thomas, Blue Zoo would be my first choice of animation studio. Their shows are CGI but they use an art style that makes them look like physical models. Their shows include Pip and Posy, Digby Dragon and The Adventures of Paddington. Pip and Posy, as did Digby Dragon, runs at a slower framerate, kinda like what the original Postman Pat and Wombles shows used, and therefore I think Blue Zoo would be the ideal studio to give the task of rebooting Postman Pat. The Adventures of Paddington, although also a Blue Zoo show, runs at a faster framerate, like a lot of Cosgrove Hall shows! Personally, I think Blue Zoo's Paddington animation style would be a good fit for a new Tintin movie! Are Blue Zoo the right studio to give the task of rebooting Thomas? I'll let you be the judge. Who'd be my first choice of narrator? Adam Hills. He is a great comedian with a great voice! I first saw him on Mock The Week but today he's best known for presenting The Last Leg. He also wrote a kids book, Rockstar Detectives! Any timeless franchise CAN be rebooted well, you just need the right people at the helm! For every All Engines Go, there's a The Adventures of Paddington! For every 2017 Spider Man cartoon, there's a 2017 DuckTales reboot! I DO have faith that despite Thomas being in bad hands right now, MAYBE Mattel will face serious problems and be faced with having to sell the IP to someone who actually cares about it!

Hold up. If copyright law lasts after 75 years... And the 75th anniversary was a while ago. That means that while Thomas the tank engine is still in full ownership of Mattel. The railway series isn't although that limits us to only character the first 7 engines, theoritically somebody could make more railway series books.... Hmmmmmm
