The Flying Kipper, along with being a great episode in its own right has one of the most important morals of the whole show: Sometimes bad things just happen through no fault of your own, but regardless of how low life can bring you things can turn out better than they were before. I don't know if that was the intended moral or not, but when it hit me it made me realize just how special the episode was. Misfortunes happen to everyone, so it's important to remember that even if it seems like things can't get worse you should never give up on life because you might just end up better off than you were before. It's an extremely important moral that everyone should keep in the back of their mind.

Henry is my favorite character as I find him the most interesting, he starts off very ill and weak, made fun of for it and very depressed, but then later on things take a turn for the better, he gets special coal, crashes and then ends up getting reshaped and no longer needing special coal, he becomes a lot healthier, stronger and even gave Gordon a run for his money, and in the show he expresses a more soft side showing that he likes nature, unlike most other characters in the main cast, I was pretty invested in his journey.

Great video! What you said at 17:34 felt very personal to me. Like many Thomas fans, I am on the autism spectrum, and by watching this video I’ve realized how much I can relate to Henry since I’ve been in situations where I’ve been expected to work at the level of other people and working to overcome these kinds of challenges with the support of people who will do whatever it takes to make accommodations so that I can do my best and reach my full potential, despite having people who may try and pick on me for not being like them or having days when things feel difficult. I’ve always loved Thomas growing up, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve grown appreciate the show even more, and this is one example why🙂

I'm on the autistic spectrum as well, probably less severe than how it was when I was younger but still noticeable. I saw this show, particularly Henry's episodes as not just good at teaching about overcoming life obstacles, but preparing me for intense situations like exams or living on my own for the first time. So long as theres people for support, you can accomplish things in your own time.

He teach us that when nobody cares about you the only one who can care is you"* Such an outstanding character and I'm very glad that this masterpiece of a video exist. God that would've been beautiful to see on the screen...

Very nice video, Luke. Being autistic myself, I can definitely relate to Henry, so it's little wonder he's probably my favourite character - in fact, I even wrote a review of the book for the SiF a long time ago, and it was pretty much exploring the same undertones. I'm actually inclined to think your take is better in many ways. On a sidenote, you're right about the majority of the narrow gauge engines not having named trains or signature trains to themselves, but it's worth noting that Duke did have "the Picnic" to his credit.

There’s actually a real-life Henry: BR 71000 _”Duke of Gloucester”._ The only BR Standard Class 8 ever built, constructed in 1954 to replace No. 46202 _”Princess Anne”,_ which had been destroyed in an accident in 1952. However, _Duke of Gloucester_ had terrible steaming problems and fuel efficiency. Rather than try to figure out what was wrong, BR just sent the engine away to be scrapped. While it was waiting to be scrapped, a bunch of rail fans pooled their money and bought 71000 in order to preserve it. During the _thirteen years_ it took to restore the _Duke,_ it was discovered that it hadn’t been built to the specifications required by the schematics. The funnel it was built with was too small and didn’t work well with the valve gears, and the ash pan and intake dampers for the firebox were also too small and strangled its air supply. After replacing those parts with the ones 71000 was supposed to have had all along, they discovered that _Duke of Gloucester_ might be the most powerful and most efficient 4-6-2 to have ever been built in Britain. To this day, the _Duke_ is pulling coaches full of tourists on the mainline, and is one of the most popular steam engines in the world. People who’ve had the chance to operate 71000 describe it as seeming to always want to go even faster. When I first heard the story of _Duke of Gloucester,_ I made the mistake of imagining it as a _Railway Series_ character, and subsequently spent the next hour bawling my eyes out. _He just wanted to be a Really Useful Engine but he couldn’t and his owners didn’t love him and sent him away to be scrapped and he sat all alone for years thinking that he was a Bad Engine and nobody would ever love him or want him but then a bunch of people came and told him that they loved him and wanted him and they saved him and fixed him up and discovered that he was actually one of the best steam engines ever but his original owners built him wrong and sent him away instead of fixing him because they were stupid people who never should’ve been put in charge of the railway and everyone hates them now and it serves them right and now he’s a Really Useful Engine and he gets to pull coaches full of people who come from all over to see him because of how wonderful he is and he’s so happy and living his best life now and I’m crying again just typing this._

Just like anyone who is in the TTTE community who is on the spectrum like me, can easily relate with Henry and/or call him the most favorite character out of everyone else in the shed. I was diagnosed with mild autism at an early age, and before that happened, I was very knowledgeable, and I was even opening up my vocabulary with more complex words in books. All of that was about to change when I was 2 or 3 years old... At the time I was doing really good and learning really easily, then I was starting to get sick. I was getting worse, and I was developing a fever that was creeping towards 102 degrees Fahrenheit. Both of my parents were concerned to the point where I was going to potentially die, so they took me into the ER to get looked at to see if someone could help me feel better. I was taken in and after about a day or so, the doctor had news for my parents. At some point either before or during the early part of my sickness, my brain was starting to develop autism (probably right before the sickness). They definitely noticed a difference when I came home. They had to learn sign language until I would be able to physically speak, and because of that, my speech and vocabulary skills dropped very fast. I wouldn't be able to read books properly until I was probably 8 or 9 years old. One thing that I was able to understand though was how to relate with those similar to me at a younger age. I was easily able to identify with Henry, and more often than not, Henry was my role model. If I played with my Thomas toys with my older brother, I would always go with Henry. I knew Henry had the power and strength had he could literally do anything, and still get the job done with a very proud smile on his face (this was when I was 5ish years old when I was identifying with Henry). Henry went through hell and back again from the beginning, and he will always be the strongest and unbeatable character, that we as people who fall on the spectrum, will be in life.

And where I am at now?? I am now going to get married at some point next year, and I have never thought of myself getting to that point due to being bullied and made fun of at a younger age. I always thought that I was ugly, and every girl was way out of my league, but now I realize that isn't the case at all... At some point, I will have a child in the future with my wife, and if they have autism too, I know what will help them out to make them feel so much better. If anyone has any doubts about themselves in long-term relationships/relationships in general, having a family, having careers, and even thinking that life will ever be amazing, watch any video about Henry as a character and look at others who aren't considered being "nOrMaL" by the overall public. You can do anything in life if you have the support to help you get there, and the willpower to keep going no matter what...

People who have disabilities or are going through a rough time can relate to Henry These people have experienced the sadness that comes with their disability/struggle like how Henry was sad about his steaming problems and fearing that he might be replaced by someone else Henry's steaming problems can symbolize the person's disability or physical/mental struggle. The crash can symbolize the point where they reach out for help or start adapting to their disability. The Crewe rebuild can symbolize them pushing through their struggle and emerging a better and stronger person. Hi Luke, I want to tell you that you that this video was interesting to watch because of the morals that you have learnt from watching this episodes about Henry and it made sense to why he is your favourite character. I could also relate to Henry in those three episodes from the first series of Thomas the Tank Engine because I’ve always felt like that in the workspace and nobody understands my struggles although I do try and work hard, but I know that there is support provided to help me. Listening to talk about these episodes in more detail has made me feel sorry about the character Henry. And finally, you said in your first review that this television show works for autistic people, and I suffer from autism too and with that this was a show I found easy to watch through my childhood. You’ve done s good job with your Thomas the Tank Engine reviews so far, I’ve felt I’ve learnt a lot more about the show itself

@@usualblokeluke personally it does make some sence with how much money it could be to turn an experimental design into a standard. And besides who says the engine has Henry's memories? It could that the engine was given every information about Henry and it goes from there.

There's probably some explanation out there that I've not heard but my guess is because of it being a non stop fish train that speeds down the line Hence it's a train of kippers flying down the track
