Thanks. The Project GTI video was very helpful. We changed both rear wheel hub on my son's 2012 GTI last night--her has 109k on the car. ONe bearing came apart when we removed it. Part of it was stuck to the wheel assembly and we couldn't figure out why the new bearing looked so different... after we pried it off, the new one went on w/out a hitch. I do recommend fully removing the brake caliper carrier so you can easily remove the rotor. One of our hub nuts did NOT want to come off. I soaked with Penetrating Blaster and applied heat and finally said a prayer! That combo seemed to work, perhaps as the bolt or surrounding components started to cool, the seal broke just enough--use a BIG breaker bar.

Just wanted to give a heads up for MK6 Golf R owners. I used this video as a resource to reference when doing my rear wheel bearings. I bought a kit from ECS tuning that included 2 rear wheel bearings already complete and ready to install with hardware. When I attempted to do this job it was actually much different. The whole hub included from the ECS tuning site needs bolts taken out that hold the original one in place which can only be accessed from the inner wheel well where the shock is. There is no room for a breaker bar unless you take the shock off and maybe take out the control arm and possibly the spring. Didn't feel comfortable doing all that so I ended up calling a mechanic to help me out. Just wanted to warn others with Golf Rs that this job is a bit more complicated than the GTI model or standard Golf. Im sure others feel comfortable with all that, but im sort of a newbie trying to learn to do my own work.

Dont need to take the caliper off the carrier, just take off the whole break assembly. Also do not use an impact on the axle nut

Very different to the earlier Golfs (I have a video of that on my channel... one of the few where the parts didn't come from Micks!). Nice work!

This is a great video shows the whole process. @ 2:03, you used a drill from inside and hummer, what's that for? I'm thinking that's probably hardest part of the whole process?
