Love your work. Beautiful and impressive. Just a suggestion: At the loop (2min 30 sec in to the video) connect the short stub with the mining lead on the other side of the loop. Yes this is one of the current options for that line. However I'm not 100% happy yet with the station / steam up area layout. So that running line point at the rear might come out.

Again, I wish I had the vigor of youth, or at least retirement to do a little every day... Two minor decoration thoughts - at the arched bridge (northeast?), at some point I might put in a deep cut lined with stacked flat rocks to create a canyon effect. Then at several intervals along the hillside have some ledges of flat rock out cropping from about 2"-6" high by 16"-24" long for interest and to play off of some of the vegetation. Like some of the tiny vine stuff dripping over, or a dwarf boxwood psudo-bonsai growing out of a crevice... I can't say much more, because I only just finished the last stones of the planter the new layout is supposed to run around last weekend... and I started way before you on my second attempt. Good luck with this year's efforts!

That bridge is amazing! It having the gauntlet track on it really makes it one of the most interesting parts of the railway!

You are creating a really good system . The bridge is really impressive and well done with your brick work. It is at a perfect height for appearance and operation. Good luck to you both, and well done.

Really admirable work. If you're looking for something to shade the ferns by the filter, or even just to add more trees, take a look at Dwarf Elm.

Hmm some food for thought on that. We have considered putting a 'large' tree in that area. A Dwarf Elm might end up a bit too big if we're not careful though. More research needed I think but good suggestion, thank you!

@SouthgateLightRailway I have one I planted 9 years ago, and it's now about 5ft tall. I have done some trimming, but only to limit the spread, not the height. If kept in a large pot, they would be easier to keep under control, sort of big bonsai!

Try lawn Daisy (Bellis Perennis) you can dig them out of other people's lawns (free) tease out bits of grass and plant them up to fill your bare patch. They are evergreen and start flowering in February. They have worked an absolute treat on my railway, I created a green lane over my road bridge and tunnel. They do like self-seeding here and there and the flowers grow a little larger than when growing in a lawn. Cannot wait for the next episode.

Thanks for the suggestion, looking these up however they might be a little large to be placed this side of the line. We're trying to create a far away hillside that really would need to be much bigger than it really is. So we're trying to find the smallest leaves and flowers possible on the near side of the bank, with larger ones behind it. To trick the eye somewhat. Might work elsewhere however.

What should pop up when I’m looking for something to watch in the background whilst doing some modelling! Good to see the progress, if there’s nothing happening in the garden for a while we’d love to see any stock additions or visits!😊

Yes good reminder, hopefully 2024 we can get some good running footage. We're enjoying it a bit too much currently as we stand/sit in amazement watching it, not filming! Ha

@@canalboatingif it’s happy - my parents still chastise me for bringing it into their garden when I was 12 but I can’t get it to live in my garden now! It seems to need rocky well drained crevices but with plenty of rain. So… probably ready to run riot in Yorkshire.

We have considered mind-your-own-business but with the bank joining at the base with the lawn, it's highly likely it would spread to the lawn which isn't what we'd want. It can look nice though, but controlling it is key.

It's coming on nice ly. Can't wait to have a run on it. That lift bridge is awesome, where did the idea for that come from? Hope to see you at Stoneleigh.

Ballasting will be the SBR method, which we hope to show this year. We're just making sure the track is running well first before applying the ballast, as adjusting it after this would be harder to do.

@@SouthgateLightRailway Interesting. I used SBR and it has all come loose. Winter before last when we have a long spell of the temperature oscilating between just below and just above freezing, it all gave up. Where I still have ballast, it is now all lose ballast.

Would threaded R/C linkage work better than steel wire for the bridge? It would be infinitely variable for fine tuning the length, then add a lock nut to keep it in place.

Not a bad suggestion that. We're currently fitting the wire solution and you really start to get a sense of the strength required for the linkage at this point. A bit of movement with steel wire also provides a bit of give to cater for misalignments, as getting the bridge, counter balance and supports all perfectly inline isn't really feasible.

Nice work on the bridge. Is there a prototype that uses a similar principle?

Another great update! It’s really progressing well. Do you know where those second hand buildings in the quarry came from? They look amazing!

We think they're custom but we got them second hand from someone selling of a friend/family members items, they didn't know much about them. They're concrete walls but one roof is resin, the other wood and metal sheet.
