your comedic timing is spot on. keep up the good work!
It’s so cool to see a lady working on this stuff. Be cool to have you shout out my channel. I’m not good looking, but my wife is. And my daughter and I built a 283. She drives her 66 Chevy with that engine. Pretty cool I think.

I met many lovely ladies in AZ when I was just there
Hey Sarah, loving your channel and you. I’ve gone back and watched your channel from the beginning. Keep it up!
I hope it all works out. I had a b5 A4 with an APR stage 2 tune on it. Once I got all the timing issues figured out, the car was a blast to drive. My b5 S4 has a Motoza Stage 2 tune on it. I love that car.
Way to go Charlie!
Another great video Sarah!!!
You crack me up Sarah, you keep going girl
sarah l dont believe it. you missed a spot ,watching your vlogs always bring a smile to my face .THANK YOU
Damn, cold cracked solder everywhere, PITA! Been there, repaired some.
Keep doing your thing girl !!!
Electrical gremlins are the worst. That's why I personally prefer the older cars. However, the full repair/test drive will make a very interesting video which I look forward to watching *:)*
There are extensions for Firefox and Chrome that fix photobucket posted pictures.
Thanks for the shout out!!!!

Just made my night! Keep up the great content!
I'm learning so dang much... makes me want to build a tuner car next.
Your videos are great! One of my favorite channels. Thanks for putting out such solid content. I was wondering when is going to be the Next MR Dos vid? And any good recommendations for doing touch up paint ? My 16 Focus ST has horrible rock chips and I was hoping to give it a go.
Had APR stage 2 on a golf R, and it was amazing... I beat soooo many rides and never had a code issue... nothing off about it, dam car ran like a rocket! I.... also... parking lot is made of dreams!!! You should go there and see that place... your gonna love that APR ( they also make a awesome hp fuel pump)
you can do it i am so excited for this audi :O
Yes it's common for old circuit boards to develop dry solder joints, they can sometimes be fixed with a solder flux pen and careful use of a heat gun to renew the joints. KZread repair/reflowing,reballing computer chips I've done it several times on old graphics cards pretty straight forward. Good luck 😃
Great video like always. Loved the government work commentary. 😊 I hope that you both get this Audi running. 😉 I got a detailing Channel, like my name already suggests. A lot more is coming in April. The season starts now. 😊
Sarah, I got my yellow trim tools like that at Harbor Freight. Super cheap but totally useful.
You guys kick ass! I like when you do troubleshooting. Hope you get the tune to work. I'm Al fan of the tune on mine. Even though I rarely get to give it the beans, ya, my wife and I have always said that too.
At one time these ECUs were not flashable. They are now though. But they still have to be bench flashed out of the car. ian at reflect tuning has the best stage 1 flash for the 557p aeb ecu. I also have a flashed 557p ecu from gonzo tuning. They both hit 18psi and rip pretty well. Reflect tuning has a stage three big turbo tune that runs 440cc injectors at 3 bar. A great over the counter tune for a Garrett GT28rs turbo set up.
I just bought a 1997 A4 1.8T Quattro. 100k miles 5 spd !! Im super excited to do upgrades. im making a channel soon! i have my own shop and what not... im following your build -)
If you don't have anyone that could repair it normally you could try the oven trick, it's been known to fix solder points on PCB boards.
Cold solder joints are the devil! Keep up the good work though. Love your channel.
Hey! How about a shout out for all the dogs serving out country!?!?!? I've trained many that are still serving, both foreign and domestic. Let's hear it for our four-legged heroes and the people that put the work in to make them what they are!!!! By the way....Thank you for your service!
Sarah, 100 octane fuel is available on Houghton Road. At Quik Mart and at Shell station near Chuy’s. They sell the fuel because of the race track at the fairgrounds. If you put a few gallons of 100 octane fuel in your car with onlyone it will bring the octane level up. I run 100 octane in my motorcycle in the summertime to keep the cylinder head temperature is down. (Air cooled engine). Learned this trick from my father who was an Army air Corps pilot WWII.
The plastic pry tools can be found at Harbor freight also.

Ok, I didn't feel like sifting thru all the comments. But make sure you change you're plugs one heat range cooler. NGK BKR7E is a common plug for tuned VAG's. Especially the 1.8t.
Could be the crank sensor .. very common on the 1.8T engine
Put vise grip on it. Fixed👍
the shout outs are cool.
Beautiful car girl! 👌
You can use it SMD soldering station with a heat gun to Reflow the solder on the chip but don't overheat the chip too much... They make some really really fine tips to focus the Heat to Reflow the solder.... Best of luck... But if it was my guess it's probably a cold solder joint that's probably causing the problem
Not sure if you have seen Forensic Detailing on KZread but he has some really good info
Charlie to the rescue. Good video.
I'm running a manual APR ecu in my auto B5 A4. It works, but you have a code for a ecu mismatch. I tried all the suggestions to reprogram it with VAGCOM to no avail. Also, you don't have to take the wiper arms off to get the plastic covers off. Just slide it over the wiper blade.
Haha. Probably the rreason this old thing had been sitting for 10 years in the corner of a shop. But the AEB engine is gooood. With the K04 blower it makes a fine fastbooster and quick little car.
Nice, just ordered a stg1 for my AMB engine, coming next week :) Hope it doesn't die like that though lol.
It might not be the leads to the chip rather the copper vanes in the circuit board but its difficult to tell without removing the solder that is already applied. Hope you guys figure it out. If not just web search the chip number order one put that on the original ecu and copy the tune from the Apr "flashed" ecu.
the plastic panel tools are available at wish for $8.00
thank you
You always do great work every video is entertaining thanks for sharing if you want to give a shout out it's cool
take a heatgun to it with some bga flux and after is cool clean it with alchool
Check the circut board for a crack were the chip has been installed and damaged. May have sustained some damage during storage or transporting. May not be fixable.
Good enough for government work 👍😉 lol!

Your like my dream wife, I love to see a woman that knows the insides n out of a car. And your nails are the same color I want to paint my brake calipers on my Audi. Keep it up the good work!
Motion auto is awsome. And Junkyard dave is cool. Hes got allot of cars.
@4:58 lmao hate when that happens. When you think you finally found a picture that solves the problem, nope can't see because it's on photo bucket. Oh and looks like the chip needs new thermal paste under it so it can make a better connection. Usually they have some at best buy.
Good video
I tried soldering new bulbs in the back of my LS400's OEM radio, its hard af. I got most of them to work, but to take it all apart again forget it...too difficult. If you don't solder them correctly then it'll be intermittent like your chip problem. Hope its fixable
Wonder if there was heat paste under it that dried out creating a gap and vibration, cracking solder joints.
@GrahamReid34
6 жыл бұрын
Thats exactly whats happened.
If you need vagcom I would recommend obdeleven! You can do all the same stuff as you can with the expensive cable
The trick is to not install the screw/screws under the rain cowl for easier access :)
The last letter is the latest version of that part. It supersedes....
You know Sarah....i think the other 52,364 of your male subscribers are Really warming up to Charley ; ) He seems like a good guy.....haha. Now as for the ECU board....duct tape, or just wrap it up in foil and stick it in the Microwave for 45 seconds, no more than though....and that should work perfect !!!
might not be the solder joints; it's possible the chip itself is cracked giving you that intermittent connection. In which case, you will never be able to fix that.
Great vids! Would love a shout out! Thanks for all your hard work!
You should contact APR directly. There was a update to the chip mounting socket that raised the chip up and put it in a more secure socket to fix that issue.
Aww man I wish I would have taken my channel more seriously when you did these shoutouts.... I need to do more reviews before getting shoutouts anyway haha
Good on you for sharing other peoples stuff 8-) You guys are ripped you only get 91 octane. In Aus we get 91, 95, 98 and e85.
Maybe the new ECU needs "training" for your sensors? Like the ODB2 system there is a discrete time before it throws a fault. Perhaps the ECU accepts out of range sensor input and tries to compensate, but after a set time it gives up? I'm an old car guy but it seems a preprogrammed ECU may be expecting sensor readings from the last car it worked well in?
I love your nails. Is that gel and do you remember the color? Wanna get mine done that color now. :D

Another great video, Sarah. 👍 I know what you mean about photo bucket, it has made a right mess of Detailing World. What fuel do you run the Scooby on? With mine being a Prodrive car I had to run it on 98 octane.... But I had an Andy Car Remap (he did the Isle of Man time attack Scooby) it is now mapped to run specifically on Shell V Power 99 octane.

In the US our Octane rating (R+M)/2 is measured different than most of the world (RON). So 91 here is equal to 95 in Europe and many other countries, 93 in the US = 97.5 elsewhere... for the most part. On the west coast & south west of the U.S. 93 is not available at all, leaving 91 as the top tier fuel option, and unfortunately the only option for myself as well as many others with cars that high octane is required.
@rice-rocket
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info, Sarah. I didn't know that the ratings for octane differed in the States from Europe. Shell's V-Power is one of the highest in the UK. BP used to do a 102 RON octane fuel a few years ago, but I don't think it is available anymore. It was very expensive.

I would suspect a bad connection on one of the pins of the ecu ( the APR ecu might have corrosion either in the pins or on the board, its easy to spot in good light with a beer in your hand).

Charlie fingered your APR ecu and made it work.. He got to the right spot.. :)
Harbor Freight has the plastic/nylon pry bars.
I have a 99 A4 with AEB 1.8t engine. I have some spare 386cc injectors from a 225 1.8t TT. Can I just swap them out with a tune for some more HP? If so do I need different injector seats? Since the TT injectors have long nozzles and stock A4's are just flat on the end that goes into the manifold
Subscriber callout..there's 56 thousand of us. If everybody gets 1 person they know to subscribe, we'll get Sarah to six figures..come on guys!
ok sooooo, is there anny difference to the ecu what so ever between quattro and fwd on a manual transmittion? i converted my 1.8q to 1.8tq and got the ECU and engine with a stage 1 tune from a fwd car. all i know is that there is a speed sensor and another sensor on the gearbox, there is like zero difference in the electrical bit??? i mean its a thorsen.... its like as mechanical as it gets.
So, somewhere on that circuit board there is a cold solder joint. It would of been best to go through and touch up every spot on the main PCB, the risers and the daughterboard. I know that you do not have this car any more (sad).
ECU chip connector surgery is delicate.
Postal service probably bounced it around too much. Hopefully you can fix it easily.

Could it be a cold solder joint?
I can only armchair quarterback, but the chip problem may be on the board to which the chip is soldered. Sounds like the problem happens when it gets hot under the hood. That kind of stuff is exasperating!!
Ever get the ECU working correctly? I have the same one and it does this randomly
Will that ecu fit my focus wagon? 😂
I completely agree. Photo bucket is awful. Glad im not the only one who noticed.

SARAH, WHAT SOFEWARE DO YOU USE FOR YOUR GIVE AWAYS? THANKS
you like Subaru's of the WRX and STI type. Fort Campbell has you covered. Them sunsbitches are everywhere. Sad part is... most have been riced up and no one wants to race.
I don't know if this will in the US, but try ZAP7 on Google. This site has official parts catalogs for loads of different makes. You can check part numbers then. Site is free. Spent 19 years with VW dealer. Currently BMW/Mini
Yupp slam the door a few times
How on earth can Charlie solder on the ecu with those microscopic connections 😂 I would end up with like 6 of them soldered together.
