    Yes it's common for old circuit boards to develop dry solder joints, they can sometimes be fixed with a solder flux pen and careful use of a heat gun to renew the joints. KZread repair/reflowing,reballing computer chips I've done it several times on old graphics cards pretty straight forward. Good luck 😃

    At one time these ECUs were not flashable. They are now though. But they still have to be bench flashed out of the car. ian at reflect tuning has the best stage 1 flash for the 557p aeb ecu. I also have a flashed 557p ecu from gonzo tuning. They both hit 18psi and rip pretty well. Reflect tuning has a stage three big turbo tune that runs 440cc injectors at 3 bar. A great over the counter tune for a Garrett GT28rs turbo set up.

    Sarah, 100 octane fuel is available on Houghton Road. At Quik Mart and at Shell station near Chuy’s. They sell the fuel because of the race track at the fairgrounds. If you put a few gallons of 100 octane fuel in your car with onlyone it will bring the octane level up. I run 100 octane in my motorcycle in the summertime to keep the cylinder head temperature is down. (Air cooled engine). Learned this trick from my father who was an Army air Corps pilot WWII.

They make some really really fine tips to focus the Heat to Reflow the solder.... Best of luck... But if it was my guess it's probably a cold solder joint that's probably causing the problem

    I'm running a manual APR ecu in my auto B5 A4. It works, but you have a code for a ecu mismatch. I tried all the suggestions to reprogram it with VAGCOM to no avail. Also, you don't have to take the wiper arms off to get the plastic covers off. Just slide it over the wiper blade.

    It might not be the leads to the chip rather the copper vanes in the circuit board but its difficult to tell without removing the solder that is already applied. Hope you guys figure it out. If not just web search the chip number order one put that on the original ecu and copy the tune from the Apr "flashed" ecu.

    Maybe the new ECU needs "training" for your sensors? Like the ODB2 system there is a discrete time before it throws a fault. Perhaps the ECU accepts out of range sensor input and tries to compensate, but after a set time it gives up? I'm an old car guy but it seems a preprogrammed ECU may be expecting sensor readings from the last car it worked well in?

    Another great video, Sarah. 👍 I know what you mean about photo bucket, it has made a right mess of Detailing World. What fuel do you run the Scooby on? With mine being a Prodrive car I had to run it on 98 octane.... But I had an Andy Car Remap (he did the Isle of Man time attack Scooby) it is now mapped to run specifically on Shell V Power 99 octane.

  • @SarahnTuned

    In the US our Octane rating (R+M)/2 is measured different than most of the world (RON). So 91 here is equal to 95 in Europe and many other countries, 93 in the US = 97.5 elsewhere... for the most part. On the west coast & south west of the U.S. 93 is not available at all, leaving 91 as the top tier fuel option, and unfortunately the only option for myself as well as many others with cars that high octane is required.

  • @rice-rocket

    @rice-rocket

    Thanks for the info, Sarah. I didn't know that the ratings for octane differed in the States from Europe. Shell's V-Power is one of the highest in the UK. BP used to do a 102 RON octane fuel a few years ago, but I don't think it is available anymore. It was very expensive.

    New subscriber...you're goofy and I enjoy your channel because of that! Love the car reviews...great mix of cars. Have a new channel myself and while not monetized I love doing it! Please check it out when you get a chance and keep up the great work. Word to the wise, if you do anymore work on PWBs (circuit cards on your ECM), wear a ground strap. One static discharge and it could be game over!
