Follow me at / joe_theis for gamedev stuff, / infiniwar for occasional gameplay clips and highlights.
This is a montage of video I recorded during the development of the game between Dec 2021 and Dec 2023. Everything is very much WIP and not final.
Infiniwar is a stylized, modern military real-time tactics RPG with a roguelike campaign. Take command in epic battles. Call down artillery and air strikes. Designed to be played forever.

At the end of the last devlog, I said I was going to be changing things up for the next one. So far the devlogs have mostly focused on how I got started, but I realized I had a problem: it was going to take far longer than I wanted to share *current* updates and progress with you. Getting feedback from all of you is one of the main things I was hoping to get out of doing devlogs, and that’s hard when you’re seeing stuff that’s over 2 years old. So I’m going to be trying something different moving forward, focusing more on the the current game and future plans, but with some nods to the game’s development history where it’s relevant. When I asked in a recent poll, most of you said you wanted to see the current state of the game first, rather than focusing on future plans, so that’s what we’ll do next. At the same time, I think it would be a shame to not have something documenting how the game changed over time in its various stages of development. Since I had all this footage from the past 2 and a half years, I decided to make a development progress montage out of it. I hope you’ll enjoy seeing how far the game has come in the first 2 years. Almost every shot shows something new being added to the game. See how many you can figure out! Thanks for watching, and see you in the next devlog.
Love the music! The percussionists are busy! The scenes have rhythm all their own. I'm waiting for King Kong and Godzilla to show up due to the hollow earth theory!

Glad you enjoyed it! Syncing everything to the music was a lot of work! I'm definitely not going to try that again on such a long video.
Just read two books on Uboats. One called Operation Drumbeat, and the other Shadow Divers. Both fascinating.
So go to the greatest hits of 1750.Seems I had that tape at one time.
This was cool to see! I like how you figured out how to make the sunlight and moonlight reflect off of the terrain! Really neat realistic effect! I also thought the parachutes were cool!

I like the rain effect! Awesome progress, I don’t know how you do it!

Must be great to look back over this and see just how much you've already accomplished!

It's both a great reminder of how far I've come, but also a reminder of how far I have yet to go to achieve the vision in my head. Hope you enjoyed!

@@JoeTheis Very much so! Good luck with the next phase
Wow! You have created a lot more varied terrain than I realized and included day/night and different seasonal scenarios. I liked the parachutes dropping from planes and seeing more rudimentary features taking on more realism as the work progressed. You added a little sound from the cockpit! Good luck on your continued progress!

Thanks yes I focused a lot early on environmental variety, which I think will be important to the long-term replayability of the game (a pillar so central to the design that I named the game after it!)
Make sure to finish it. It already easily captures attention.

Thanks I really appreciate it. I did spend a lot of time making sure I could get appealing video content out of the game at an early stage, since getting attention is hard these days. But I agree, the most important thing at this point is to make progress on development. Though my plan isn't so much to "finish" it at this point. I see it more as a long term project, like Terraria or Dwarf Fortress, or similar long-standing projects where there creators add to them year after year. Of course before I get there, I need to deliver a solid core experience, which is my main focus right now. So you could call that part "finishing" it.
Now this looks like a game I would like to get my hands on

Thanks! I am still working on it, but happy to have you here checking it out.
Heck this game looks good! I hope it takes off and you get the attention you deserve!

I don't know if anything is deserved exactly, but I do hope it takes off! Thank you for the kind words!
Absolutely stunning! The ability to stick with this for such a long time and working towards your vision is inspiring!

Hey, many thanks! I'm glad you like what you see. It's all still very unfinished right now, but hoping one day with enough work it will live up to the vision I have for it in my head. I'm in this for the long haul, so I hope you'll stick around and see where it goes. Appreciate the kind words, and have a good evening!
wow! I am blown away by the progress. I appreciate you included some of the bugs you encountered on your journey lol

Nice!
Flying wings? Use music from the Eagles!

Unfortunately the licensing fees for bands you've heard of aren't really feasible. 😆
We need to title it. Patton's dream! Or maybe Hannibal minus elephants? Why not Build a Battle! Or The wagers of war unleased? Oh that's right: Infiniwar! Maybe with a byline.

The composer/producer is John Leonard French, and the title is "Industrial Combat". He provides 7 unique layers to combine in different ways, so I guess that makes me an "arranger".

Arranging music, eh, so if I give Mom flowers, does that make me a flower arranger?

Thanks! I've been holding off until more people start asking. But that's starting to happen! Of course it would just be for wishlisting at first
How 'bout some dirigibles? Then you could use some Led Zeppelin music?
@JoeTheis

😆 nice. Would be possible. Not sure exactly how to fit them in for modern warfare. They were more of a WWI phenomenon, and I guess WWII barrage balloons. Fortunately I'm not tied to the real world timeline, so I can have some anachronisms if I want, following the Rule of Cool.
Man it Looks Aws....
