The pleasure is all mine! Thanks so much for such a nice comment, glad to see this video is still helping people. Yeah the stuff with the different warp modes I kind of just stumbled across, but I think it gives a pretty decent jungle flavour, with relative ease and speed. Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the support on Patreon :)

Thanks so much! I thought it was only possible to get that sound with something like Akaizer, but this gets pretty close I reckon, close enough at least.

I’ve just had a total beat choppage break through from watching this Alex. Thanks a lot. (I was always doing slice to midi before which works but this just seems to allow a lot more creativity, with not just having the individual hits but more of the sections of the break 👍😎

Nice one, Ben! Amazing. As with a lot of things in life, there are many roads to the same destination! I seem to be doing more stuff with Sampler lately. Not quite sure why, but the additional flexibility this gives you... especially for the more idm-ey stuff can be pretty powerful.

hey thanks for the video I really love this technique! I tried it and noticed a problem I have no idea how to solve--I dragged the samples to simpler and adjusted their volumn to 0db and chopping the breaks using your method, but ended up with something significantly louder than the original sample (it happens both when I used one sample and multiple samples). Do you know how to fix it possibly?

Hi Alex, thanks for the comment :) yeah I think it could be the velocity setting - if you're playing back a 0db sound with 35% velocity (usually the default in Ableton) at 127 velocity in the midi clip it'll play back at 0db plus 35%. I know usually leave a bit of headroom in each of the simplers (-12db is usually the default) so that playing them back 127 velocity with the velocity sensitivity set to 35% doesn't make things too loud. Does that help? I can't remember exactly what I did in this video now in terms of volume and velocity sensitivity but think I just left each simpler at 35% sensitivity. Let me know if that works and thanks again :)

Great Video. I know its a bit old 2021 but does the downloadable Liveset work?. It has a pipe character in it and it fails in Ableton 11 on Windows

Thanks so much :) Always wary I haven't moved the file and broken the link, but just test and managed to download and open in the latest version of Ableton 11 on my Mac. Are you up to date with the most recent version of 11? It could be it was created in 11.1 or something, as you say it was a while ago. Let me know how you get on, I'll see if I can share it another way :)

@HumanSynthetics I am using Ableton 11 suite all up to date on Windows 10. I downloaded your other one, which was all good. For this one, Ableton flakes out. Cheers for the vids again. I've been meaning to try making jungle as I have a lot of records from that era. Just the knowledge of how to produce was not as widespread... and I did have an amiga back in the early 90s.

It’s sounds like all the bottom has been squeezed out and the drums have no definition. Starting to hurt my ears.

  • @HumanSynthetics

I don't think I did any processing here did I? It's just the audio sample as it came and me messing about with warp modes. Generally the amen on it's own doesn't have much low end, but I have to disagree that there is plenty of definition!
