According to legends, "Drunken Madness," from "Magic Secret Sheet Music," was written by Ruan Ji, one of the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove during the Three Kingdoms Period. Regarding the background of this song, it is said that the government at that time was dull and dark, and the scholar-bureaucrat Ruan Ji felt that he was unsuited to that era. In order to avoid disasters, he lived in seclusion in the mountains and forests, played the guqin and recited poems, and enjoyed drinking and forgot about worrying.
The score of this piece is organized by guqin performer Yao Bingyan, based on the "Magic Secret Sheet Music" with reference to "Xilutang Qintong." By depicting a chaotic and hazy mood, the music expresses pent-up uneasiness in the heart, and the music is implicit and profound in meaning.
