Professor Carol Anderson on Police Killings, Trump, the Clintons & "White Rage"

democracynow.org - Jury selection has begun in two high-profile murder trials of white police officers who killed unarmed black men. In Ohio, former University of Cincinnati police officer Ray Tensing shot and killed 43-year-old Sam DuBose last year after stopping him for not having a front license plate. In North Charleston, South Carolina, officer Michael Slager faces a murder charge after a bystander filmed Slager shooting 50-year-old Walter Scott in the back as he ran away. For more, we speak with Carol Anderson, professor of African American studies at Emory University. She is the author, most recently, of "White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide."

Hello America: “Black Subjugation in America” - “On a recent visit to Ho Chi Minh City’s (Vietnam) War Remnants Museum-focusing on The ‘American War’-I was reminded how Americans have never, as a country, come to grips with our invasion and war on Vietnam, neither our war on its people or its very physical being. Yet, while we haven’t come to grips with our war on Vietnam, Americans as a whole have never come to grips with our own history, specifically how Europeans stole this land from Native Peoples, and then built this country on the blacks of African slaves, while institutionalizing white supremacy. Accordingly, issues of slavery, race, racism, etc., have been relegated to the margins of American experience, confined overwhelmingly to “The South.” And with anything so marginalized, it can be ignored-if not forgotten. I can't (or wouldn't) argue the slavery/white supremacy part of your comment, but I think the way you characterized the North-South Vietnamese conflict (and America's ill-fated attempt to help South Vietnam prevent the onset of communism, from the North)--and, how the Europeans allegedly "stole" America from Native Peoples--is bizarre and ridiculous. The problem in Vietnam today, at least as I understand it, is the oppressive communist regime (and/or constant threats of Chinese takeover), not the unfortunate 1975 result--now 45 years ago--of the North-South conflict, or the US involvement in same (which wasn't an "invasion", or a war "on" Vietnam as a whole--it was an attempt to help the South Vietnamese avoid being under a communist dictatorship); the US was there trying to PREVENT, at least in South Vietnam, at least some of the very problems which that now-unified country has today--it just didn't work out (obviously). And white people (Europeans or otherwise) didn't "steal" shit from so-called Native Americans. Ever heard of "survival of the fittest"?? It's very much like the Aborigines still living in Australia--the land was pretty much theirs (unchallenged) for probably centuries, living very primitively with certainly no centralized "government" to represent the people as a whole, until another significantly larger group of people (or "groups of peoples") emigrated there and established a more advanced society with such a government. Same thing in the US with regard to the "Europeans" and the "Native Peoples" (Indians).

We tend to forget that Trump is a business man and entertainer. He plays to the easily influenced who want a strong man (Putin) leader type. Figure it out and don't give all the credit to him. The people are embracing him and what he is saying. The scarier fact is that a great many unfit people are being given power over the masses. This mess will haunt us for years to come. Just another independent perspective.

When people participate, set personal goals, and achieve those goals, they succeed. Why is it so hard for people to own their success and move on. By making excuses for those who refuse to participate, set personal goals, and achieve their own goals, you end up tying yourself to a sinking ship ... which ultimately drags YOU down. Here is another scholar who only knows how to find a problem, analyze a problem, deconstruct a problem, discuss her so-called findings, only to retreat to a home among those she deems 'at fault'.

Graham6762 no problem, I appreciate you listening. I'll give you one example and we can go from there. Property taxes pay for schools right? So if you live in a good neighborhood you will go to a good school right? But if you live in a bad neighborhood you will go to a bad school. If you live in a bad neighborhood and you try to send your kids to a good school, and you don't live in that area you will definitely be prosecuted due to the zoning laws (it happened to my mother for sending me to a good school). Now if you don't go to a good school you won't get a good education, if you don't get a good education you won't be able to go to a good college, if you don't go to a good college, you won't be able to get a good job and make good money, if you don't make good money you can't move out of that bad neighborhood. Now who decided who lives in what neighborhoods good sir?

Graham6762 and keep this in mind, most wealth is inherited. Blacks weren't allowed own anything let alone pass things down to the next generation and that effected the future. We don't own the property in those bad neighborhoods, most blacks don't own property period to be able to pass down to the next generation.
