I agree with you that Deepak is a kind of "spiritual peddler",but some of the sources that he draws from are very ancient and very real..he's just found a way to make money at it(alot of money)..and yes,it is ironic that he talks about transcending materialism and yet rakes in millions..I have never bought any of his books because I always felt that he wasn't genuine,but I did like that he was bringing some of these ancient practices and wisdom to the world..I think Professor Brian Cox is brilliant and he IS right,stupidity is the biggest threat to humanity..for me,every time I read about a new discovery or breakthrough in science it strengthens my faith in God,it doesn't take away from it..those that think it takes away from God are simply not strong enough in their own faith,and are listening to others(preachers,ministers,ect.) instead of what their own inner guidance tells them..and BTW,I give out spiritual guidance FOR FREE :)

The entire meme that the "calmest person on the planet" never gets angry is clearly false. For Deepak Chopra, this is his gimmick. It's an affectation. A way of grandstanding. It's clear that he does get angry. I've seen him get angry with Richard Dawkins and others. Of course he attempts to disguise and control his anger. However, his body language and words betray his anger. Thus it doesn't surprise me that he posts aggressive tweets, as Brian Cox states.... Having said that, Chopra does keep calm when people agree with him. And he's even calmer when they buy his books or trousers.

So we use possibilities to guess what we don't know. In reality it's a determinism and not a possibility.

Prof Cox, no one is denying the legitimacy of the physical sciences within their field . However, when you can unify relativity and quantum theory (Einstein couldn’t either), then I’ll listen to your views on holism, health and the nature of consciousness (Dr Chopras field). Was one of your hero’s, Richard Feynman, wrong to say, that he didn’t understand the “ facts” about the nature of reality that quantum theory threw up? Was he wrong to say “Shut up and calculate”, when any of his students pointed out that “the emperor has no clothes” . That is ...that facts had been discovered about the true nature of the Universe which our/his current scientific paradigm cannot account for. I won’t even mention ( oh why not) that you weren’t aware that 95% of “your” - physical quantum relativistic Universe was real ....but unknown to you .....for possibly 95% of your academic career. Dark matter/dark energy .... Whoops! No scientific materialism adherent such as you ... has anything to say about consciousness other than “it’s an illusion” (I’m quoting Daniel Dennett) Why? ....because the conundrum of consciousness points back to the reason why relativity and quantum theory cannot be reconciled. Science is conducted within consciousness no consciousness, no insight , no intelligence, no science. It is fundamental. Have a bit of humility and have the sense to research the areas you know nothing about and don’t fit your model, rather than insulting people who are already embracing a new world view which has some hope of making sense of the gulf in knowledge which you are in denial about. Example ....the vacuum catastrophe (Google it) would be worth taking a look at again, to see if you can make sense of that NONSENSICAL result, which is at the heart of the disconnect between quantum theory and relativity. Those theories only deal with closed systems .... and guess what ? THERE ARE NO CLOSED SYSTEMS. There is no Universe, Prof Cox, where consciousness can be excluded from the so called “physical” Universe. There is no Universe that consciousness is not an integral part of. We are due for a paradigm (world view) shift akin to the leap from Newton to Einstein. Professor Cox please have a conversation with your vilified and excluded professional colleague, physicist Hassim Haramein who has finally made sense of the above noted disconnect between quantum theory and relativity. He is making sense of why consciousness must be factored in to any world view which attempts to solve the conundrum of this disconnect. He has shown why the concept of the nuclear “strong force” has no reality when the true nature of the vacuum is understood. Don’t you want to know why he has asserted that protons are in essence mini black holes and can make this a coherent part of the model he is developing. A model which appears to be healing the divide between quantum - relativity - and the fact of consciousness ( not ... the illusion of consciousness)

He studied medicine at the best college in India to become a spiritual guru? What a waste of government fund. Some other aspirant could have used the knowledge to actually treat people. :(

So it's not like Cox was just boasting, by saying the extra stuff, he was just being scientifically correct.

I noticed Deepak is a passionate person when I watched a tv interview with him years ago. He's got a feisty personality. I did happen to be standing in MIA in a very long queue in the early 90s waiting to board a plane overbooked by 100 people, and I was standing in line right next to the public phones. He was on the phone, really working it, calling his agent, etc., all business, leaving short business messages, and the thought that popped into my head, no judgement at all, just a statement of fact, was, "wheeler-dealer." They called for the first class passengers to board, he left and boarded the plane.

Disappointed to learn that Conan has had Deepak Chopra on multiple times. Helping a fraud like this sell his snake oil is a bad look.

A 'superposition of possibilities' when referring to the conscious mind means this: "I've no idea what I'm saying but the words have a nice sound". Evidence quotient? Nil. Sensibility? None. Relevance? None.

I once read 1 Deepak Chopra book. Something about Arthur and his knights I think. And I forced myself to end it and afterwards the only thing I could think was :'wtf was that???'

I've seen Deepak being rude obnoxious and angry in one of his interviews. So I dont buy that he is an enlightened guru! He is a clever cunning businessman

As well as being awed by his hyper-high IQ, I always regarded Brian Cox as a serious-minded man beyond the distractions of we mere mortals. How did I miss this interview? If Dr Cox ever needs a break from science, he could make all the top shows as a comedian. Seriously, this guy is genuinely funny.

To be fair I totally get someone believing in homeopathy as it's based on a similar principle as vaccinations, i.e - safe/safer treatment of like treats like that came out around the around the same time as Dr. Jenner's first smallpox vaccination,( Jenner generally gets the nod for being the first person to invent vaccinations though he was not only not the first person to invent vaccinations, he wasn't even the first to invent a smallpox vaccination, as Chinese principia's had been advocating the effective use of cowpox as a vaccination for smallpox for centuries ). There was a paper in the science periodical Nature that had an experiment that demonstrated the the possibility that trituration may have some scientific merit. Further to that not all homeopathy is based on extreme trituration where the the active ingredient is essentially no longer available in the medicine and you are just drinking expensive alcohol, so I can see someone believing based on those details alone that it may possibly have some merit. Of course further investigation shows the inventor of homeopathy was a known grifter, the article in Nature was later disputed, and the homeopathic treatment books are based on hundreds of overlapping symptoms that are rarely differentiated or prioritized making specific differentiated diagnostic 'prescription' almost useless, even if trituration was effective. however I believe in a small number of cases it can be somewhat effective ironically due to it's null efficacy, especially for hypochondriacs as it can act as a placebo for those who believe it works, helping alleviate symptoms without the side effects of taking drugs. To further muddy the waters many homeopaths are also Naturopaths, dieticians, chiropractors, etc, and often prescribe supplements, diet and lifestyle changes, so homeopathy may only be part of their medicinal arsenal.

@@crazeben Someone can have good intentions and still be dead wrong about medical claims they're making. I've no doubt thousands of astrologers genuinely believe that their field of study is more than mere pseudoscience. I agree with your point about results, but you're still just one person, and your success counts as anecdotal evidence as best. And at risk of sounding a bit simplistic, it's a bit hard to get behind a field of medicine that claims its main ingredient(s) actually increase in potency on dilution, a notion of which one may disabuse themselves with a simple visit to a school chemistry lab. I also share your mistrust of big pharma and its profiteering practices, but the medicines it produces, obnoxiously expensive as they often are, do at least have measurable and provable medical effects (and side effects), at least most of the time.

Conan is considered passable, even a talent, in the US - and just about worthy of watching elsewhere in the world due to Andy's input. Brian Cox is just interacting in the medium so as to break the US market - Compared to appearing on QI with Stephen Fry at the helm - this American idiocy is nothing but frustrating for him - his giggle and smile are just a case study of that old UK/US dynamic - simply patronising and humouring. Conan appears to struggle just to think and talk at the same time - Cox is a decent man - he feels for O'Brien's shortcomings - they being so pronounced.

The Universe is a conscious living organism at every system level top to bottom ..... hence the “Life of Brian” popped out of it without a single theory being involved 30 odd years ago. Jimmi K Deepak ( I’m not on his payroll) is a scientist (endocrinologist) who doesn’t subscribe to the creed of materialism which.....: IS ...science, as promoted and understood today, by people like B Cox. Who ??? decided that materialism should be promoted as a religion to the masses ? Science is a method for ascertaining reliable knowledge. “Knowledge” ( not truth) which has to be re-evaluated every few decades when those “ facts” have to be repositioned within a changing non static evolving world view/paradigm. Copernicus/Newton/Einstein/Bohr ..... ?? Science isn’t the absolute and forever true edifice it tells kids it is when it invites them in aged 5 years and spits them out as big pharma big oil supporting tenured, industry funded materialists .... a career later. The world is burning because of materialism’s take over of academic culture and its prostitution to industry via THE DOLLAR. All the while ignoring and undermining the FACT that we are conscious living organisms living within a larger living conscious organism ( at its system level). Any kid could see the logic of that if it wasn’t conditioned in the opposite direction by then belief system supported by Dan Dennett/ Cox et al. @@User58747 When someone claims to know about physics and quantum theory, and goes so far to try to use those fields to justify his own work, it's not snobbery at all to expect him to be able to prove that he knows what he's talking about. _We_ may not know how to do that, but Greene isn't asking _us_ to, he's suggesting that if Chopra is right, _he_ should know how to do that.

Prof Cox, no one is denying the legitimacy of the physical sciences within their field . However, when you can unify relativity and quantum theory (Einstein couldn’t either), then I’ll listen to your views on holism, health and the nature of consciousness (Dr Chopras field). Was one of your hero’s, Richard Feynman, wrong to say, that he didn’t understand the “ facts” about the nature of reality that quantum theory threw up? Was he wrong to say “Shut up and calculate”, when any of his students pointed out that “the emperor has no clothes” . That is ...that facts had been discovered about the true nature of the Universe which our/his current scientific paradigm cannot account for. I won’t even mention ( oh why not) that you weren’t aware that 95% of “your” - physical quantum relativistic Universe was real ....but unknown to you .....for possibly 95% of your academic career. Dark matter/dark energy .... Whoops! No scientific materialism adherent such as you ... has anything to say about consciousness other than “it’s an illusion” (I’m quoting Daniel Dennett) Why? ....because the conundrum of consciousness points back to the reason why relativity and quantum theory cannot be reconciled. Science is conducted within consciousness no consciousness, no insight , no intelligence, no science. It is fundamental. Have a bit of humility and have the sense to research the areas you know nothing about and don’t fit your model, rather than insulting people who are already embracing a new world view which has some hope of making sense of the gulf in knowledge which you are in denial about. Example ....the vacuum catastrophe (Google it) would be worth taking a look at again, to see if you can make sense of that NONSENSICAL result, which is at the heart of the disconnect between quantum theory and relativity. Those theories only deal with closed systems .... and guess what ? THERE ARE NO CLOSED SYSTEMS. There is no Universe, Prof Cox, where consciousness can be excluded from the so called “physical” Universe. There is no Universe that consciousness is not an integral part of. We are due for a paradigm (world view) shift akin to the leap from Newton to Einstein. Professor Cox please have a conversation with your vilified and excluded professional colleague, physicist Hassim Haramein who has finally made sense of the above noted disconnect between quantum theory and relativity. He is making sense of why consciousness must be factored in to any world view which attempts to solve the conundrum of this disconnect. He has shown why the concept of the nuclear “strong force” has no reality when the true nature of the vacuum is understood. Don’t you want to know why he has asserted that protons are in essence mini black holes and can make this a coherent part of the model he is developing. A model which appears to be healing the divide between quantum - relativity - and the fact of consciousness ( not ... the illusion of consciousness)

What annoys me is that Deepak Chopra is meant to be this Patron Saint of all things spiritual. I'm spiritual but I'm not into Chopra at all. Also this weird idea that he's the calmest person on the planet...REALLY? on almost every youtube video I see of him debating scientists he acts like a spoilt brat, getting overly defensive, aggressive, name calls, attempts to bully his opposition into surrender.

I agree. Being able to measure from the centre of a sphere to the edge should be easy for any high school kid, unfortunately this Twit couldn’t do it and claimed on live TV that an undersea volcano was taller than Mt Everest.
