    So nice to hear actual insight from someone with the knowledge he has. For him to explain WHY Aventus smells and performs different (removal/regulation of Lyral and Birch etc) rather than just saying “it doesn’t last as long” was great. Also, it would be interesting to know the rough actual cost of the formula per bottle of something like Aventus. I know he says it’s a ‘very expensive formula’, but how many dollars does that actually translate to per bottle? $2? $5? $10+? I know he’s working in the industry so he won’t want to say anything that may hurt business, but id love to hear some proper behind the scenes stuff that nobody else talks about…

    Fragrances have a huge profit margin, its not very expensive to make.

  • @LaughingMan_

    @LaughingMan_

    You actually can't calculate it solely on the costs of the raw materials alone. You also have, sourcing, marketing, distribution costs, certificates, labs. The formulation itself will costs quite some money as the perfumer wants a cut for his work too. So, even if you know about material costs, you also have to ask for everything else too to get the full picture. But none of the less, margins are still extremely high when you see for how much this stuff gets sold. Margins are in the percentage range of a few thousands.

Personally I don’t like wearing either fragrance but a few weeks ago I sprayed Aventus on one hand and Club de nuit on the other and then asked my mom to pick which one was better. Her initial reaction was something like is this a trick they smell the same, then once I told her one was a clone of the other and to pick which one she liked more she ended up picking Club de nuit.

Preferring mont blanc explorer ofer all the clones. Totally agree aventus is more classier. Like the direction we are going. Really interested in la nuit de l'homme bleu electrique vs the original. Why do so many people like the original eventhough it's not that strong. And why do parfums de marly fragrances seem to perform longer. Is it the build structure?

    Hey Ash, this is such an amazing and informative video. I didn’t know that they’ve found a method to extract pineapple oil, that’s nuts! And I’m quite surprised how costly pink pepper oil is, can’t imagine what it’s like to work with such an ingredient when messing up. I also agree with Mr Herpin’s opinion on Americans not really liking citrus, Light Blue Forever is a perfect example. As for the Sauvage part, I believe it’s not just Sauvage that’s taking over the scene, Dior fragrances are topping a lot of lists. The ending is an eye opener, the fact that CDNIM can nearly stand toe to toe against Aventus from a perfumer’s perspective, is impressive. For Mr Herpin to give CDNIM such high praise in the quality department is extraordinary in its own right. Definitely need more content like this if you ever get time for it, thanks Ash!!!

    I'd love to see him break down Dior Sauvage Elixir, cause it smells like a scent from the future and don't ask me why that's just my opinion.

    Fwiw, I own both. I prefer Aventus on my skin of course. But the key to CDNIM is it is a SILLAGE beast, and the Lemon Pledge harshness just isn't there in the air, especially in the drydown. That is why it gets so many more compliments than Aventus, at least for me.
