@@angusmclean8991 there's a reason he says it's advanced, and as long as you're keeping the blade against your fingers and have a sharp knife you're not losing control.the reason you don't put your finger on the spine isn't because of control, it's because if you do it all the time it will cause tendinitis in your hand.
@angusmclean8991
2 жыл бұрын
@Dosicmyth It's not advanced. It's amateur and encourages bad cutting habits. This guy can cut well and is clearly practiced, but he's nurtured a bad habit. I've seen it happen in my 10+ years in kitchen work. Both to myself and others who were learning. When I first started out I held their knife like he does. I was told time and time again by the chef's around me and unfortunately started learning the hard way. I don't know about tendinitis, but that's just further reasoning as to why it's bad practice to hold a knife that way.

Get out of here, with that pinch grip snobbery. There are vids of Gordon Ramsay not pinch gripping and even a legend like Jacques Pepin have videos of him not pinch gripping his knife, also, let's add another legend to that.....Julia Child also does not pinch grip, shocker right? Ya'll gonna sit there and say that's an improper grip? Grip the knife how it feel comfortable and stable to you. The rule of thumb has always been to get a good firm grip on the knife and let it do that work for you.

It’s sad to watch all my friends use a knife. My dad taught me really young and said something along the lines of you’re gonna meet someone like your mom and her dad is gonna see you not know how to use a knife and hate you. You’re so good at knife skills and cooking!
Chef here! Never due third technique, that’s how you fuck up the tip of your knife. Any actual chef will tell you that, it also messes up your cutting board.

I think he just did it to fill the video up..
Never enter a kitchen with a dull knife. Keep those knives sharp people. Makes the task effortless.
Sonny is literally the reason I bought a whetstone for my knives! There is nothing better than a sharp knife!!
Bruh how did you forgot to mention claw grip? That's like the most important part
"Advanced" that was the first style of cut I learned as a cook.
Having declared my dissatisfaction with this sharpener last night kzread.infoUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ I thought about the problem some more. It occurred to me that I might be undoing each attempt at achieving a sharp edge by the repeated attempts. So, I tried to clean up the unsatisfactory result by honing with only positions 3 and 4.Miracle!! A really nicely sharpened chef's knife, more than enough to handle my needs. Admittedly, it did not reach professionally sharpened razor-fineness, but it is now significantly sharper than it was. A bout of breaking down carrots convinced me. So, major apologies to the manufacturer, Amazon, and all happy and potential owners! Follow the directions: don't buy it if you have ceramic blades; and don't overwork your knife blade.
Nice thank you very much for the advice
Please remember: being good at using a knife doesn't mean being fast. Only go as fast as your skill permits. I personally go slow and have very good precision
Step 1: Looks like this without food Step 2: Looks like this without hands
The fridge got a free pass
I think you forgot the most important part of the lesson. When learning new knife skills it is important to always start slow and gain speed naturally as your comfort level increases.
I’ve asked for this tutorial for so long 😭😭 thank you Sonny!
Finally the fridge is safe from his wrath
That last trick is the "ol hospital trip"
" Uuuuuu know l love you!! And l am out!! " This line is catchy but funny 🤣🤣🤣
that reaction (outro) was so uncalled for
You forgot the other half of the technique: What to do with your left-hand fingers. It's the most critical part...
Moms: look what they need to mimic A fraction of our power
Everybody gangsta til the table gets revenge
With a little bit of practice it's not hard to chop at all, the problem most people probably face is how sharp the knife is, you can see that he has a pretty good knife
1 finger, 2 finger, 3 finger 4. I finished this video and now I got no more.
Im learning these, had no idea of just how much the sharpness of the knife matters and why it's important to take care of your knives. Thank you for being a part of my journey to cook better food.
Until today, I didn't realise that my knife skills were advanced - thank you Sonny👍🏻
Homie body slammed his kitchen counter “andddd remember...”😂😂
Knowing how to use a knife correctly is the absolute first step in great cooking! The rhythm of the knife sets the tone for all of the preparation.
Only with sharp knives though, I'm using such ancient tools that even sharpening them barely helps anymore

I’d gladly watch more videos of you teaching to use a knife correctly.

I actually like doing the third method instead of the other two because it feels easier and safer honestly.

Merch idea! Tshirt with "FDA" on the front, and on the back "Fridge Defense Assosiation"
If I tried the last one my mom would freak out and never let me use a knife “for being too careless” 😂 but the first one is what I use. Interested that see if I can do the second and last one without losing a digit lol

Funny thing is the 3rd one is actually least dangerous as the first 2 are both chopping motions the 3rd is a cutting one and I'm more scared to chop at a finger ( lose the finger ) father then slice the finger ( horrible cut, but still have a finger tip lol ) overall it's more likely to foul up but the damage isn't going to be threw the bone just maybe to the bone which chopping I'd easily go into my bone if I fouled up.

Your cooking skills are amazing! 👨🍳🔥😮😮
“I commend you if you can do this” stsy humble my guy lol
Mate, ya got knife skills like Michael Myers. 😜
I was waiting for him to stab the fridge 🤣
Tip: Use your finger's knuckle that's just behind the nail. This will help you make precise cuts, and since all your fingers are behind the knife, the risk of any injuries has lowered. The sharper the knife, the smoother and easier it will be. Fun fact: When cutting food or ingredients, a dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp knife. This is because dull knives can slide and skid on what you're cutting causing it to cut you, but a sharp knife can easily slice through what you're trying to cut, only if you know how to handle it. Life Hack: Dull knives and no knife sharpener? Grab a mug or bowl that's made from clay. Use the bottom of it to sharpen the edge of your blade. Behold, you can no longer squish tomatoes
Thank you sir my dream is to become a chef just like you and other chef's so your video's are very helpful :D
Matt Brousard: *"Am I.. here?"*
Videos that remind me I need to sharpen my knives
Can you put out a longer form video explaining your cutting techniques? I usually have a lot of difficulty when cutting certain vegetables
I feel like there's gonna be some people bleeding after this vid
Instructions unclear! I keep adding my blood to the ingredients and some weirdo asks me why I summoned him.
Facts: 85% of people who tried this cut their fingers off 100% of the time
Drag pull cuts are great for de stemming leafy greens too.
actually love this bloke
Instructions unclear now I have no fingers
I like how he kinda just flopped onto the table near the end XD
Little tip from a former prep cook, try to do both of the first ones and alternate between them otherwise you are going to overstrain some of the muscles in your wrist without giving them a break
This is the kind of dude that wants knife sharp enough to slice through fridge like butter
For whatever reason, I've been using the third method as I find it easiest, not realising it's supposed to be the hardest
I love this. The better you can use your knife the more you can do. Please keep posting technique videos as well as your recipes. Btw...I hope you have a good warranty for that fridge!
That is one sharp-ass knife.
Cab we just an app with a lot of tik tok tutorial clips? Like they would be soooooo helpful and rewatchable content has to be a gold mine
This was the most useful thing I've seen thing today
This guy always finds a way to taunt us, I thought he was going to cut his fingers off during this demonstration...
I've really only gotten good at the "rock n' chop", but it does make me feel like a pro chef.
FINALLY I've always wondered and you showed it so perfectly! Imma go practice haha
Me with my blunt knifes: SAWING
I’ve always used the 3rd method. I find anything else too complex. I just grew up around cooks and was always taught the quickest but best methods and I never had chance to try any others
