Thanks! I record directly off the headphone audio, so it’s usually pretty good quality on most of my reactions. I mix in my mic audio on a separate track, so it keeps the video audio cleaner.

The beauty of this song.. the reason to me that it is as clever as it is.. is because it treads the line of having both meanings.. literally pot (the plant) or pot (as in the one that called the kettle black), and high (as in high horse) or high (as in being on drugs). The whole thing is a double entendre woven with so many idioms surrounding the main theme of hypocrisy. I do not think I can come up with another song that is as clever as this without seriously reflecting on decades of music to find one.

the song was about a friend of Maynards who was arrested in Arizona years ago, on Marijuana possession charges, something minor. Turns out, some time later on that year, the judge who presided over the case was arrested on Solicitation and Methamphetamine charges.

I never heard of this I always thought it was about Jimmy Page and his hypocrisy on how all new music is just copied from older music. While he was accused of the same hence the reference to Muddy Waters

@chrisragona3945 I've actually seen a bunch of other people reference this story about the judge also. I'm pretty sure it was in Maricopa County, Arizona but I wasn't 100% sure about the location, so I just put Arizona

Haha I could tell they were based around the same theme, so using those context clues made it easier to understand. Can’t believe I couldn’t remember the teapot calling the kettle black saying though.

I always thought it referenced George W Bush and the invasion of Afghanistan looking for Bin Larsen as an excuse to get the OIL POWER.. Guess I was wrong

Here for TOOL 🔧 Greatest band ever. Not a single bad song. 🌀 This album released after they had just finished a long court battle with their original label. It's just another idiom as you said. You must have been high...to think or do that.

I’m sure the lawyer was about their lawsuits. Kangaroo is about kangaroo court. And the glasshouse im sure when they played in the glass room at the Scientology place in LA when the opening act was kicked and security went up to Maynard, brandished his weapon and asked Maynard if they were going to have a problem. Maynard ask him if he really wanted to shoot through a glass house then go ahead.

I have not heard a bad song from them. Radio won't touch them, but don't need, since they sellout arenas all over the world and I read each member has net worth in millions. Some good songs I like are The Grudge, The Patient, Eulogy, H, Right in two, 46 and 2, Sober, Undertow, Lateralus, No Quarter cover, Pushit (Salival), any really, imo

Remember this song was written back in 2006. At that time, pot was largely illegal in the US. This song is about hypocrisy on that issue from those making / enforcing the laws - lawyers and law makers all used it, but would lock up those of poorer classes for doing the same thing. Ganja please! - You must have been out your mind!

This song is about hypocrisy. The laws surrounding the use of pot, while also an area of hypocrisy, is not the specific focus of this song.

Or, people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones😄

The band puts the music before the lyrics of their songs, which is why they record the vocals lower & seemingly behind the instruments so I know that they would think you're HIGH to keep pausing their songs to analyze the bloody lyrics 😢 They would prefer that be done after enjoying the instrumentation and vibe of the song whole not broken up.
