Thanks for this video, very illustrative. I see one mistake, the angled target doesn't create photons in a 90 degree angle but in all directions. The angle of the target (anode) is to minimize the absorption by the anode material, maximizing the photon output in the required direction. Otherwise the maximum photon output would be directed to the filament.

1:36 High Potential (20KV) could not be produced by a battery. The large battery is only used to represent the high voltage to show that high DC voltage is used.

Correct. At that time batteries weren't used for that high voltages. They used other devices like transformers etc.

The direction of x-ray propagation is not influenced by the target angle. The angle of the target is used to control the size of the effective focal spot.

If we were to increase the current of electrons to a very high level could we produce gamma rays?

  • @joshualogan6655

No, you can't produce gamma radiation in x-ray tube.

  • @joshualogan6655

@Keeper Holderson Because Gamma rays originate from the settling process of an excited nucleus of a radionuclide after it undergoes radioactive decay whereas X-rays are produced when electrons strike a target or when electrons rearrange within an atom.

  • @joshualogan6655

as the moving electron hits the tungsten anode, it rapidly decelerates. this rapid deceleration causes the kinetic energy of the electron to be converted into heat and x-ray photons. 🤙

Unfortunately it is an inefficient process with most of the input energy going into heating the anode, thereby requiring it to be cooled. Only a few percent of the energy appears as X rays.

The Compton effect needs a wave of electromagnetic radiation (hv) I believe this is just the blocking mechanism? Where an electron marches next to another atom-associated electron which causes a decrease in KE and that loss of velocity becomes am X Ray (hv= KE1 - KE2)
