Each Akari Light Sculpture is meticulously crafted by hand in the Ozeki workshop, a traditional family-run company based in Gifu, Japan. This film provides a brief insight into the complex fabrication of the luminaires designed by Isamu Noguchi.

    Amazing artist. Thank you for sharing this with me. I watch every video i find of these lanterns being made. I do have a question, though. Is the cord done in a continuous wrap, or are the different sizes cut as you go?

    The same way it was put together, but each piece gets slid out through the hole in the lantern.

    i think it's washi paper and methyl cellulose... from what i've heard... (doesn't mean it's the only way tho)
