If only Brownells would bring back the red elastomer pads… they would pair perfect with this vise and are probably the best padded jaws out there.

If you do a search you could Probably find a set. Given that this is a precision Vise it’s highly likely that they have parts out there for them. Also the pad are a wear item and are replaceable so spares are out there

I like that you were up front with who the subcontractor is for this. A lot of companies like to make you research stuff like that *cough* snap on.
Just bought all three, vise, standard base and hydraulic base. My back will thank me.
I tuned in to make sure it was forged and not cast, which I am happy that is true. In my workshop I have an Athol vise made over 100 years ago that is still going strong - otherwise I'd probably order yours. :)
I have a Wilton and a Columbian. That is a nice vice and accessories for firearms.
Nothing beats my Emmert turtle back ,
A vise for my vice! Nice!
Steve with the Hello Kitty mug has such a powerful aura.
Those swappable vise jaws are nice! I could use those with a variety of materials in my home vise.
Nice vice, I have one like it in the garage, I have a Real Avid vice for my gunsmithing. I did order the rubber faced jaw inserts and the leather sheets just now Great day to order, 15% off and free shipping.
$400? I’ll have to tell the wife it is $599 and on sale for a limited time. She approves of sales.
It would be great to see the entire thing with the extra extension. It was not a very good presentation, in my opinion.
Jaw screws etc up good idea .
Nice!
I bought my vice at rural king for 100 bucks . It rotates at all angles and has the jaws for different size round objects . Ive built many Ars on it with no problems
If I wouldn't have just bought a Desmond from the pawn shop! I mounted it on a piece of 3" Id pipe mounted to the center from an Allis WD power adjust wheel.
Hell yeah Steve rockin' the Hello Kitty mug!
WOW! That's a GREAT vice!!! Yes, it's pricey but if you do a lot of gun work this will take a lot of the OH SH!T!!! out of your projects

I know it’s high quality. Didn’t realize how expensive a good vise is tho. $400. I’ll have to clean up and check out my grandfathers vises and see the quality and make of them.
wow, never seen avise before.
Got a link to it on the website? The only thing I can find is the swivel base.
Maybe Brownells could use a couple of them vises for a AR builders class!?!
does it come with a kung fu grip ? Calleb ?
I'm driving by Brownells building tomorrow afternoon. I hope they have one on the floor to take a look at. I did break a cast 4" vice from a builder supply store once. I was tightening a pipe down, and I heard the vice go "tink". I had $60 worth of scrap metal after that. Cast iron does not make for a good vice.

@brownells I stopped for just a short time. I didn't stay long. There was a vice on a display, but it wasn't the one in your video. Impressive vice none the less. I was on a quick turn around after driving to Wisconsin so I hit the bathroom and grabbed a soda. It's always a great place to stop to stretch your legs and check out the goodies. Exit 182 on I-80 for those who don't know.
That's a nice vise. I'm guessing it doesn't include the extra jaws?
@eosjoe565
Ай бұрын
Nope. Extra jaws are only $60-$70 each. In fact, the vise doesn't even come with a swivel mount for $400. If you want the clamp base that is another $200.

The real question is, do the jaws open wide enough to hold a Hi-Point 45 acp handgun? You know, I have been watching your videos for years, and just finally bought a Parrot Vise very similar to the one you had on the bench, and you go and change it up. Next, Caleb is going to part his hair on the other side.
👍🏻
Is there a link that brings you directly to the product?
OUCH it's the new hotness, so hot I can't touch it LOL . Nice vise but for $400.00 I wouldn't use it enough to justify price, not that it's not worth it just would be a big over kill for me.

Maybe promote a vise that is made in the USA. After all it’s a vise. There are plenty of vises that clamp to a table, bolt to a table , are very precise in their movements and are USA made.

Don't think, that there are any forged vises that are made the US.
Six inches at least! These guys are experts guys!
Nice! I love harbor freight 😅
Very nice! I have a Wilton machinists vise, a Bisley gunsmithing vise and one of your older vises, all 3 are great. One thing that I’d love to see, though the market is very limited, is a means to lower a vise. I made my own using wood, which works but it’s kindly ugly. The reason that I’m lowering it is because I’m a paraplegic, and not being able to stand I definitely don’t need to raise it. BTW, “unbreakable”?! I live in Tennessee, the power of the redneck can break anything…can you say impact wrench. 😮😂
@MTCKIE68
Ай бұрын
Can you have someone add a lowered bench to the existing bench for a vise to get bolted to ? Or, building a raised floor would be quicker and easier with a ramp
@RobinP556
Ай бұрын
@@MTCKIE68 Thanks for the suggestions. Ramps and raised floors don’t work, ramps have to have 1 foot of run for every 1 inch of rise, or at least close to that, and then I’d need a level area of some size at the top. The vise that I use the most is probably my Bisley vise, which I often turn upside to hold things. That works more or less, but the vise is small and if I’m using a thick fixture I have to use one of the other vises. I’ve actually thought about mounting one of the others upside down but haven’t tried that yet. One of the problems that I run into no matter what I do is that I have to have room for my legs. I can’t just spread them and roll up to the bench, wheelchairs at this level are custom made and extremely expensive, think at least $3k, and running around anywhere I like a chair that holds me in place. You should see the order form for one of these, 10-15 pages long and my last chair that I just got a couple of months ago was over $4k. Fortunately the VA covers them.

@RobinP556 Dude, I didn't take it like that at all ! I'm trying to figure out how to help you with your situation. Take a look at their videos on the ways to mount it. They have tried to think about everything for the most part. Contact them and explain your situation. I bet you they will figure out what you need. That system is just about perfect for anything.
Name all things that can be put into this vise

A vise? I just use my massively strong hands, like Caleb's, to hold everything while I fasten them down with 300 ft lbs of force.
Lock three Marines in a room with three ball bearings. When you return later, one Marine and one ball bearing will be AWOL. One ball bearing will be destroyed beyond repair and the third ball bearing will test positive as being pregnant...
Nice but overbuilt for intended purpose. Real Avid vise is better option.

Agree. I don't see anything about this vise that would make it an advantage for gunsmithing. Granted, it does seem to be well built. It's basically just a mechanics vise. As you mentioned, the Real Avid articulating vise is much more useful and significantly less expensive. I wish they made the Real Avid vise in a clamp-on version.

Okay I like these guys and I love the Brownells product and channels. But I'm calling it like it is he says that's forged 100% and not cast. That could be the farthest thing from the truth you can see the casting marks on the side of it and where they have machine the casting marks down finer. That is absolutely not forged
@dpeter6396

Forging in dies leaves flash and the part is run through a trim die to remove the flash. It's not a precision trim die and does leave some marks. Those parts are forged. Look up open (or closed) die forging.

It's drop forged. Here is an explanation of the process en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forging#Drop_forging. Numbers and letters can in fact be stamped into the side of something during the process.
@kensmith8832
Ай бұрын
@@brownells Getting words on the side is nearly impossible with any type of forging. Steel doesn't squeeze like you think. Aluminum is another story. Stamped words? Those words appear to be raised. There are parts that are cast, parts that are machined, but it is difficult to tell about the forged part. A forged vise should run you around $450. Do the details define the type of steel? You will need at least .30% carbon to handle the stress. It appears to be a hybrid vise. I like the Parrot vise you had before!
