Since I’m probably the least coordinated person alive, the paste seems a better alternative as I tend to ALWAYS turn over any liquid container I get near.. glad to know there is a paste available! Great video!

Good point John! You can't spill the paste, just don't mix it up with your toothpaste😁
I can see where a paste blueing as opposed to liquid would be an advantage. If only a section of a piece is to be blued , there is less chance of it accidentally migrating to the not-to=be=blued part. Nice job on the nail sets.

Thanks Patrick. I've had good success applying the liquid blue with a small paint brush.
Excellent job as always! I REALLY like the bluing application on older tool restorations! Looks more authentic for an old tool!

Certain old tools do look better blued.
Thanks for the review Magdad. It's a great help.

I like the way you restored that nailset. It looks great and will be a useful tool for decades. I tend to like lighter, metal colored tools but I have to say the blued nailsets have a nice appearance. Thanks

Nice results with all 3! I have tried all of them but only because my local availability. Your prep of the tools is the key to make them nice, great job on that, Magdad! Blue is blue, but quality lasts longer.

Thanks Phil! Those Harbor Freight diamond coated bits have come in handy!
Nice! Just ran out of super blue this week... I only do 2 coats as well with the liquid type.. haven't used the paste...but it seems you be able to control where it goes easier in certain applications where you...well where I'm to lazy to tape off. 🤠 gooder than good as always! Enjoyed it! Thank ya sir!

I've had success "painting" the liquid blue on with a small brush in tight spots.
Howdy Magdad. Excellent video, just enough commentary and no overwhelming repetitive club music ;-). Nice subject matter, on matters that matter.

The Oxpho Blue I just reviewed seems like a good product too.
Looks like a great and enjoyable project. I’ll have to dig some of my old nail sets out

Thanks for sharing the 3 results, I see that I need 2 different blues for my project for a 2 tone effect.

Very Interesting Video, I've never used the gel before! Seems like you would have more control with the paste and keep it off areas you wouldn't want it to touch. I'll have to keep this in mind the next time I blue something. As always, I enjoyed the video!

Magdad, the blueing looks great but where is Chuck yours and ours little friend ?. The creation of the ball detent was masterly.

Good review. The paste seems to give a darker finish. But that could very well be the extra layer.
@357magdad
2 жыл бұрын
The paste finish is supposed to be more durable too.
I like the slightly blacker shade of the 3 coat paste process for the punch, but I think the thinner application of Super Blue might look better on a bike frame.
@357magdad

I think the paste might give a more even finish on something big like a gun barrel or a bike frame.

They all look great, in my amateur opinion. What does the manufacturer claim is the advantage for the paste bluing?
@357magdad
2 жыл бұрын
It is supposed to build up a denser finish and be more durable than the liquid.
All looking great. The holes in the tip is called :Divet"? is that right? Thanks a lot.
@357magdad

I called it a divot, but there is probably a more correct technical term.

@@357magdad Allright. I have learned a new word. Great.
So is there a situation where you think the paste would be a better choice?
@357magdad
2 жыл бұрын
I think if you were bluing a big area like a gun barrel, it would be easier to get a uniform finish with the paste.
Came out nice firm what I can see how it's in person how did you like and worked best for you

I'll have to keep my eyes open for that paste I need to reblue my old Mossberg 500a and to be honest that nail set finished with the paste looks much deeper than those blued with the liquid cold blue.

Does the bluing help resist rust?
@357magdad

The cold bluing is more for looks than protection. I did some testing on different bluing methods: kzread.info/dash/bejne/g5-XramgeKq4n5s.html
Keeping the items oiled is super important. I used the bluing paste on a pair of clippers and it rusted again. :( I didn't follow the directions.
@357magdad

I like to let the item soak in oil for a while - sometimes a few days.
What is the difference between Perma Blue and Super Blue?
@357magdad
2 жыл бұрын
The Super Blue is supposed to be better for highly polished steel, hardened steel alloys containing chrome and nickel.
