Thanks for a good episode. Does the winner (except D-1, of course) automatically get re-rated?

No. Re-rating happens when their average in the KCO (including qualifying and stelpladder) goes up to put them in the next division up.

Further clarification: The division they bowl in is based entirely upon average. But when it's average-based, it's a pretty safe bet that if they bowled well enough to make the stepladder, there's a good chance their average may tick up, depending on how many games they have recorded in the current season. There is a lot of re-rating that happens early each season when they have very few games recorded on the season. I've seen kids get re-rated down, then up, then down, then up again in the early months of the season. But once they get enough games under their belt, it takes more pins (or fewer pins) to move their average enough to cause them to be re-rated. In the KCO, a player (or their parents) can request that they be re-rated UP at any time. But once they do, they cannot return back down to a lower divisiion. Some of the kids do this so they won't be subject to the whims of handicap, and/or may just want to bowl with the scratch bowlers. But once they've ELECTED to be re-rated up, they can't be re-rated back down.

@@ProdigyBowlersTour Thanks for the info. I had wondered if a tournament victory was somehow "weighted" in the ratings. I suppose if a player bowls well enough to make and win a stepladder, chances are pretty good they'll push up a division anyway. It's difficult to "handicap" your way to a win. Takes good bowling at least through the qualifiers.
