ProCapturing Elana with the OM-1
Фильм және анимация
Ninety-nine per cent of my wildlife photographs are made with a super-telephoto lens. OM Systems' ProCapture technology is a big factor in my success with action. Lately, however, I've been thinking that it would be nice to have a wider view of the action for the viewer to see the environmental context of the encounters.
As a solo content creator, it's up to me to get the B-roll footage by setting up a second camera on a tripod, or a GoPro on a prehensile tripod. These things are possible, of course, but they require discipline and compromise my focus on the main game...quality still images. And, to be honest, it's a pain to set up the extra gear and hope that some action happens where I've set things up!
Recently I hit on the idea of putting my mobile phone on a support hanging underneath the lens hood. The advantage of this idea is that the mobile phone camera follows the action wherever I point the big lens; a tripod-mounted camera can't do that. I just have to roll the mobile when I think some action is about to unfold. I can voice-command the mobile to start recording but I've found that is hit-and-miss when there are ambient sonic distractions such as traffic on the road near the reserve.
Here's a recent example of using the technique.

Thank you.
Hi Rob thanks for video. I have same lens/camera. I note from your data that you used a monopod (currently looking into monopods). Can you tell me which monopod and head you use for 150-400 mm lens please. Thankyou 😊
The OM1 seems to be a bit better than the mobile phone. :D I am curious, though - what telephoto lens have you attached to the phone? Is it a worthwhile investment?
