Ойындар

Villains folds do impact the EV of value betting though because changing their folding range effects the probability of villain calling

in the spot JTs, it looks so hard to find more than 50% equity vs calling range (without being RO honestly ) :/ so thin ...

Is Stefan really doing that chk raise line without diamonds, or with k hi? How is he constructing his barrel? Is paired board texture the main factor or was the Diamond draw with no showdown?

  • @matta5749

Disconnected paired boards have very high check-raise frequencies, so yes he would be check-raising without diamonds often. Basically any pair can check-raise that board for thin value and equity denial from overcards. This means that he’ll have a ton of pairs that want to continue betting on the turn but have to bet small. Steffen mentions this in the clip.

question: if you're raising with intention with a particular hands, like for example k9dd targeting kjo, kqo, and middling pp, how are you supposed to balance that with the rest of your range, which might have different intentions? Let's say you are raising for value with Tx there, but now are targeting a calling range of diamonds, also pp, overpairs, and so on. How can you be sure to pick a right sizing for both these targets? the tl;dr is how do you balance this strategy with your whole range when your specific two cards seems to matter a lot - do you have to split sizings, which seems unintuititve?

What I personally do is a two step process - first I set my bet ceiling based on whether I have a nut advantage. Then, I choose the actual size up to that ceiling based on what I think my bluffs want to do. So I bet just enough to cause a significant portion of my opponent's range to fold. If I think he has a lot of trash that will fold, I bet small. If I think he doesn't have much trash, I bet larger (up to the ceiling). If I think villain has both a bunch of trash and middling hands, I may split, but personally I usually just choose one size. The reason I focus on bluffs is because in the moment, it can be hard to think of both value/protection and bluffs, and between the two, you know that no matter what, your bluffs must use an appropriate size to cause folds. Value bets generate EV no matter what - so even nutted hands will often bet small.
