I was happy to see even a 10 thousand dollar Festool shopvac will still tip over when you pull the hose, haha.
Remember, TOH, your modest audience with a modest budget got you to where you are. Don’t turn this into a festool marketing strategy program, that your typical audience can’t afford, nor cares about. Don’t lose your soul of what took you here.
Deck is beautiful love to watch you guys working
Video starts on 1:30. (Skip the introduction)
I got excited because I’m about to refinish my deck...3 day tease?!? COME ON!!!
Looks dam good, sanding them old boards down really did the trick!
Beautiful job.
If you're using a penetrating oil, you should be wiping down the boards with acetone before applying the oil. This helps the new oil "bite" into the open pores. Otherwise, the act of sanding just brings out the naturally occurring oils within the wood to the surface, thus minimizing or "blocking" the uptake of the new penetrating oil. Can't believe that wasn't mentioned here, it's all over the literature from the penetrating oil manufacturers.
Nice work!
They tell you what brand the $20k in tools they used were, but not the $50 can of penetrating oil. 🙄

Penofin brand oil. You can special order it through Sherwin Williams and maybe other retailers. Not sure if you can get it directly from them.

Which woods would the oil be worth using and which woods wouldn’t you use it on because it would be a waste?
This was nothing but an ad. He would have use an floor sander, or a belt sander. With a belt sander, he would have taken about 25 of the time t took to do it this way. With a floor sander, maybe it would have taken 10-15 minutes to do the middle part.
haha, nice festool ad

Only about 10k of festool tools, like anyone is gonna have kit like that 👀
Is this really a video on deck refinishing or an advertisement for Festool?
How far below the deck surface do the nails need to be set?
Well, after watching 10:26 you can clearly see those products can stand some hard work.
So does this require maintenance or is it durable and only have to do it once ?
I work alone and I would have that done by the same time as they did using 80grit then 120grit. And that's how you diferente a painter from a pro floor sander
Can you do how to install a water powerd sump pump pls
Why would someone use a hand sander to sand the field of the deck instead of a floor sander? Oh yeah, this is a Festool commercial.
What stain product did you use?

looks like penofin oil
Sorry can't hear what they're saying over all the hammering. Did you give anyone a mic?
Wait... who sponsored this video again?

Shop-Vac I think
I can't imagine using a blower would compare to using compressed air...And I can't imagine sanding an entire deck with a friggin' corner-cat. Where is the floor-sander?? This should not be hands-and-knees backbreaking work. I'm all for partnering with Festool, even if I can't afford it. This is marketing to pros, after all. But it still comes off as the wrong tool for the job.

How about a corner dog? Dogs are bigger than cats
I have a channel here in Brazil if you want to know a little of our work
Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you need to do some sort of cleansing wash on a deck/ porch before a new coat of stain or paint? Or is this only after doing a chemical strip of some kind. Def interested in knowing before I do this project myself

I'm not positive, but I think it's because they used a penetrating oil after sanding. And only after sanding. Their product they used didn't require any additional prep.

It would not hurt at all to use 30 Second cleaner on this BEFORE sanding to kill any growing lifeforms on it.
Power washing raises the grain but aren't you are sanding anyway? This is just an advertisement for that expensive sander.
Is that Meehan?
I think this episode was great in showing how to refinish a mahogany deck......but it seemed way too commercialized for Festool. They may be great tools, but this is not the way to sell them in my opinion.
Just clean the deck and apply the penetration oil.. That will do it for me.. Anyway the professionals knows best..
Jeff doesn’t make for good tv. Just sayin.
why was that intro so long?
It would be easier to build a new deck.
What
Decks are overrated, high maintenance money pits. Mauro has it down to a science though. Smart man.
This show really turned into a sponsors/advertisers’ shitshow. Whatever new generation of youngsters are taking it over are going to tank it, with their fancy degrees, because they have no soul - or any sense.
Sloppy job, look at the overstain on the siding...
Lol, Festool vacuum and tools. Unaffordable to any homeowner. Bought and paid for by Festool. Shameful.

stick to posting old episodes of "this old house" and "ask this old house" otherwise unsubscribing.
