Pro Racer's Take: 2020 Mazda 3 Hatchback

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This edition of Pro Racer’s Take steps outside of our usual wheelhouse of super performance cars and the more common models we test that are still usually aimed squarely at enthusiasts. We’ve been big fans of the latest Mazda 3 ever since our first experiences behind its wheel, but our 2020 Mazda 3 track test might still seem an odd exercise. But sometimes it’s just as much fun, in its own way, to see what a reliable favorite can do as it is to push the latest supercar to limits everyone knows will by sky-high before the car in question ever turns a wheel. Why are there not more car reviews by people who know how to push them to their limits on the track? This was great.

Excellent video! I have been wanting to see this on track, awesome to hear that the torsion beam rear suspension, hasnt taken away from its handling or abilities to perform, thanks a lot subbed!

Andy, thank you for your enthusiastic and comprehensive review. Over the years, I have always trusted your professional opinions whether in text or video. (BTW, I miss Automobile Magazine in print, dammit). I have owned GTIs for decades. They are love/hate/extreme fun/frustration. The 2020 MK 8 is supposed to be the nut; however, I think I may jump ship at this stage in my adventure. Seems the 3 is the real deal on all counts. Will keep you posed at this site.

You’d be disappointed coming from a GTI if you care anything about driving dynamics.

We don't get that engine in the UK but we get the 2.0 SkyActivX (spark-controlled compression ignition) with almost identical bhp and slightly less torque. It's that or a detuned 120bhp 2.0 SkyActiv-G, which is a little weak for a 1600kg car.

We love the 4th Gen Mazda 3! If only you had the CorkSport.com Lowering springs and the new to be released Rear Swar Bar - We are positive you would have knocked off a few off that superb time!

The looks, fit, and finish of this car are great. It really does look more luxurious in the cabin than many other cars in its segment. However, Mazda really needs a true hot hatch MazdaSpeed version of the Mazda 3 especially now that Mitsubishi and Ford have left the market. Great job on the video review!

I agree on the need for a Mazdaspeed 3. I owned a 2008 model and loved it. I had wished for years that Mazda would put out an awd model. I currently own a Kia Stinger but would consider a 300+ horsepower awd Mazdaspeed 3 after seeing the fit and finish on the model in the video.

Incredible handling dynamics for such a softly sprung car, obviously a few suspension upgrades would go a long way performance wise.

To me, this car is still not the heaviest thing in the world to me... some of the server racks that I had to manually push alone in data centers at my last job (coughAWScough) averaged around 3800lbs

I’m a HUGE fan of Mazda’s sadly you can’t get the sedan with the six speed. Mazda always punches above its class makes their cars trick you into thinking your driving a much more expensive car.

it is funny they put a mazda 3 in a track. if they have the FWD version and with a better tire, sure it can do much better but still, this is not a sport car. just a fun family hatchback... lol

@@automobilemagazine yeah... even mazda acknowledged the rust issues on their cars. There was even recall for some generations because the issue was so serious.... (Official mazda recall). www.consumerreports.org/car-recalls-defects/mazda6-recalled-suspension-corrosion-problem/ Would be not surprised when this generation have the same problem. Otherwise mazda would be the first who tell ohh finally we fixed the long time ago...
