I love Bob's backstory. He was a mediumweight who put on pounds so he could compete in heavyweight instead but his fanbase thought he was just letting himself go and turned on him. Bob decided to just lean into it completely, bulked himself up to what we see in the games, and retained the speed he had originally just to prove to everyone he still had it.

@@jessepeterson6694 aka the Brock Lesnar. In both pro wrestling and MMA, what made Brock absolutely singularly unique is that he wasn't just the strongest and biggest person on the roster, he was also the quickest. It was insane to watch. No other pro wrestler had ever been that big and strong while also being so insanely fast. He was and is a complete freak of nature. He just had so much physics charisma, just watching him perform moves, like throwing around men who were 250lbs like they were small toy rag dolls, and he did it _SOOOOO_ fast. There's never been anything like him before or since. There's been guys bigger than him (at least height wise like the Big Show, also Brock isn't really super tall or anything for a pro wrestler, he's only like 6'2'', but he was the biggest in terms of muscles) but these big guys were always without exception slower. Like how elephants are much stronger than mice but they're also much slower and every movement they make is a big slow one. People like the Big Show, Kane, the Undertaker etc were huge and tall and strong but they came absolutely nowhere near the speed of Brock. These days Lesnar is a lot slower, because he's in his 40s, although he's still as strong as ever. But those early 2000s days when he was simultaneously the most muscular, the most strong, and the quickest guy in WWE was just breathtaking to watch. He was meant to be a heel but everyone loved him because of that insane physical charisma he had. If he'd continued to pursue amateur wrestling, since he had been a NCAA champion and so could absolutely have continued going down that path, he'd be a gold medal winner in the Olympics. But he went into pro wrestling instead and as a pro wrestling fan I'm so glad he did. But yeah you can definitely imagine him being an Olympic medal winner and then going straight into MMA after that and dominating for years and years. He probably wouldn't be anywhere near as rich as he is today, though, if he'd done that. So yeah, good for him. But yeah I really recommend everyone watch some of Brock Lesnar's early matches in 2002-2004, his first run in WWE. Even non wrestling fans should watch them. _ESPECIALLY_ non wrestling fans, actually.

As a wrestler and someone who transitioned into BJJ, leg locks are terrifying. You can straight up hospitalize people because of their own stubborn nature. Blowing out knees, tearing ligaments and tendons. Its really nasty stuff. Its why most BJJ schools dont allow heel hooks. Done properly, its safe, but all it takes is that one stubborn person or for it to be applied wrong for too long and you will hear a pop, and someone will be in a cast.

The theory behind Sambo is very old. The French also utilized it during their conflicts with the English. Englishmen had to train from childhood to use the English longbow effectively, they were renowned as a nation for their archery. The French realized that they could cut the middle finger of an archer off, leaving them alive, and thus a drain on resources, but making them useless in a fight. This is the origin of using the middle finger as a taunt. It's the English mocking the French, saying "I still have mine, you didn't catch me."

Back in the day, they were tip of the spear when it came to duels. Those iron bracelets slowed them down, but the extra mass behind their punches was brutal. They could also use them when blocking and I imagine punching iron doesn't feel too good.

That's because this guy doesn't know what Kung Fu is. Lei's style is Kung Fu, which is just an encompassing term for "Chinese Martial Arts". Lei's style is mainly based on Kung Fu's animal styles, but that is only a half dozen of them. MMA is different from Kung Fu. Kung Fu is for self defense and way of life. It draws it's inspiration from life and nature, and is very much legit. Drunken style is also a real thing. Distraction, getting an opponent over confident, unorthodox attacks, traps and tricks is the heart of drunken style and all tactics used by the greatest fighters in the world including MMA. With that said, imagine my reaction to his "reaction" to Kung Fu😂

    1. Lei uses a mix of two martial arts: Wuxing (a mix of 5 animal styles on which the Furious 5 from Kungfu Panda are based), and Drunken Boxing (which you'll see Jackie Chan use in his Drunken Master movies). The latter is extremely difficult and is a counterpoint to almost all conventional styles because there are very few hard blocks. 2. Wing Chun is generally based on right angles. Launching straight punches instead of hooks give you greater speed and require less preparation to power up. So rather than being hit with one giant hook, it's about being hit with 4-5 jab/cross combinations. Similarly, defending from a right angle allows you to better catch and counterattack incoming fire. 3. How has RJ never heard of Butterbean?

Lei uses Shaolin Kongfu not Wuxing, which is a philosophy not a fight style. It makes sense he would have a lot of Jackie Chan's signature fight styles, as he is directly inspired and created to be a reference of Jackie Chan. Drunken Boxing is a very meme fight style, though its philosophy can be considered effective as it incorporates very unorthodox movement to help trick or deceive your opponent into not taking the fight seriously or dropping their guard, in which it allows openings to use surprise strikes to vital points. It also forces the opponent into awkward situations in which their fight style would be largely ineffective. Drinking adds to the deception and making it seem like your drunk also sells the act more. Wing Chun also emphasis's strategically striking an opponents pressure points and prioritize using speed and precision to reduce fatigue and maintain control. Kinda sad that info got overlooked as it is a key point in many Eastern Martial Arts. Also, he didn't mention that Law utilizes Jeet Kune Do, which was Bruce Lee's personal style that he helped teach. It derived alot of techniques from a large amount of martial arts and was rather practical and not just for Hollywood style fighting.

8:45 as someone whos been doing Wing Chun for 6 years, I agree with a lot of what RJ says, besides what he is doing with his hands. It´s basically your non dominant Hand with the side of where the pinky is, facing the floor ,in front of your dominant Hand. (So for right handed people, left in front of right and for left handed the other way around) yes, you will Break your Fingers, trying to hit someone like that. Throat and eye pokes only like this. You normally Strike with the Palms, but Not curling your Fingers, so that when you Hit the head, you Clan grab the neck. In some cases you strike with a fist, elbow, knees to the stomach or higher if you are flexible enough,Kicks to the Knee, Chain Punches Which are Indeed fast and Not too hard but are very uncomfortable at the solaplexus. To be honest I also do Not know what this is at 9:48 Maybe it is supposed to be a double Palm strike that glitched in this Moment? Very intersting to see a pro fighter React to Wing Chun while staying respectful towards the martial Art. I apologize if my english might Sound weird, ist is limited and I am more used to german.

When I was doing my MMA spars at my old dojo I did a lot of stance switches and because I’m ambidextrous it worked so well. We did a lot of tournaments with a couple other dojos around the city and people really didn’t expect my stance switch to be strong left and right. I’d start with a left handed stance and once I made the switch to right handed a lot of my opponents figured it was a bluff and they would advance, or in some cases they backed away because they figured I was moving to my dominant side. It really screwed with people, I miss those days, and no I was never the best nor did I claim to be “the best” I really just did it for fun and to learn wushu which is what the dojo that I went to specialized in at the time, but I figured I’d learn more then just wushu, like Mui Thai, jujitsu, even a little bit of Tai chi. Sadly as of today I’ve hardly got any time on my hands to actually any of it anymore, just one of those things that I had fun doing and would probably do again if the opportunity were to arise cause well 🤷‍♂️ it was fun to do.

Lisa from DOA and even Makoto from King of Fighters are the best i've seen of that fighting style. well Matoko is probably up there with eddy. and yeah, games now (for the past 10 years) have been delving back into more of the flashy look of fighting styles due to fighting games being a spectator sport. tekken has never updated many of their character's movement which is why there are janky looking moves like the Mishima's hellsweeps. even in the first tekken react vid the reactors pointed out how weird a lot of the animations and body flexibility worked. in DOA that was never an issue because everything has always been mo-capped. Tekken didn't mo-cap when it first started and it doesn't really update many of its roster to incorporate. But tekken has never transitioned into the realistic depiction like it's other 3D fighters have done. It's more akin to Bloody Roar. Real fighting styles but in an arcade-y setting where the moves won't be super realistic. That was more of DOA and VF's thing. Even Soul Calibur delved into realistic showings of their weapons form SC2-5. in 6 they went into adding more flare and thus more exaggerated moves.

Most Kyokushin guys who've gone into Kickboxing or some kind of pro combat sport take up Boxing to supplement the no arm strikes to the head in Knock-down competition that limits how much exposure they get. They get taught how to punch the noggin, they just don't see many of them in sparring.

The biggest issue for capoeira is the start up. Footwork, spotting and evasion are great but timing for strikes…not so much 😅 I’ve been doing capoeira for years

Wing Chun uses closed fists when punching, weird that RJ doesn’t know that.

I'd like a vid where he looks at the moves pro players use, as a lot of pros have a more "realistic" playstyle where they try to do fast, small moves with low risk to set up larger moves later on

my ONLY point of contest with his verdict was with the capoeira...Marcus "lelo" aurelio...nuff said lol ...I also might be a little partial because I practiced capoeira for years and we were taught the "flashy stuff" for exhibitions and sparring but also taught what moves could be realistically used in a confrontation...we actually were taught these moves in our street clothes because...that's what you'll be wearing if, God forbid, you had to fight back

Interesting seeing Feng switching his stance backwards seems to be a extraordinary move to add distance and to bait, punish I would love to see guys trying it out I wonder if you could through a right cross while switching backwards to post of your opponent to either A) follow up with a roundhouse or a head kick B) add distance while going southpaw, could be a good way to trick your opponent if they don’t know your dominant stance or take a break C) do a takedown when they start coming in. Just food for thought.
