They don't want to build muscle mass that's why they don't do slow controlled reps (eccentric), fast explosive reps will build strength and that's what they want, the best possible strength:weight ratio, although saying that I'm not sure if I agree with the way he slams himself back into the floor but then again they are trained PTIs and I'm sure they know more than any of us about training so there's probably reason for it🤷‍♂️

Thats fucking retarded, There is no excuse for wanting the easy way out. You literaly have to hit the goals for these exercises, there's no way around it. To hit the numbers you have to work hard at it, no half reps, no easy way. Go up to one of the instructors and ask him/her: "Excuse me, I want it to be as easy as possible." Buddy before you can finish the sentence the authority will give you the same awnsers as I did. But no worries keep walking behind each other and Ill jog on, used to leading the pack anyway. In the afternoon they do all the gym tests, they do the VO2 bleep test, then straight away comes the press ups, then the sit ups and finally pull ups. After that there is a swimming assessment. I'll put it on. Pull ups is the one that gives people the most trouble. Best advice is to train eccentrically and pull up fast, then lower to FULL EXTENSION slowly. This works the muscles eccentrically and gives quicker adaptation.

Donna Jordan thanks, I find these videos very helpful. Although whats odd is that pull ups are the one that give me the least trouble, I could do 8/9 before I started training. It’s probably because I weigh so little (too little).

  • @donnajordan358

Guidelines are - Full extension of the arms. Hold pull up position at the top. Legs extended at all times (no kicking your feet). Feet uncrossed. I will put on the Pull up video tomorrow morning as it is currently downloading. That way you can practice on the cadence and see if it makes a difference to your reps. You need to be a minimum of 65kg or 10st 4lbs.

Its the Potential Royal Marine Course (PRMC) that potential recruits have to pass before they start training as actual recruits. Before the PRMC they also have to pass the Pre-Joining Fitness Test (PJFT) which is a mile and a half run completed on a treadmill under 12:30 mins followed by a 1 minute brake and then another mile and a half run in under 10 mins with the treadmill set to 2% incline for both runs.
