Private Crossing, Hurstbridge. New Gateless Railway Crossing Install!

Filmed 12/7/21
This crossing is on the Hurstbridge line between Wattle Glen and Hurstbridge. It was upgraded on the 11th of July from passive to flashing light protection. This crossing is named LX3314 in documents. This road eventually becomes Gorst Rd so maybe it could also be referred to as that.
This crossing is very special as it is the first flashing light only install since July 2009 and also features red railway crossing signs, which were only used during LXRA removals. It is the only gateless crossing on metro.
Equipment is as follows:
Unmarked bases on both sides with silver poles. Newer style Westinghouse LED lights on Westinghouse crossarms. Red crossbucks and white Stop On Red Signal signs. This crossing also has two GS Type 3 E Bells and an Artcraft healthy state indicator.
Great location for a railway crossing too, nice scenery.
Thanks for watching

Good video and crossing! Pretty cool seeing brand new gateless signals installed, especially being on a line Metro owns!

You are correct about this is the first crossing in Victoria since 2009 to be upgraded with lights but not booms. However there are a couple more level crossings on the Hurstbridge line that are signs only - not even flashing lights. So it is one of 3 gateless crossings.

Awesome little crossing! If memory serves, the last crossing(s) to be upgraded from passive to lights-only were the two crossings at Yarrawonga when the Oaklands lined reopened in 2009

Nice video Sam! Also, it is the only one to have ‘target boards’ on Metro trackage, since Koornang Road, Carnegie was removed in 2018.

Actually it’s not, there’s a passive crossing on the Stony Point line at Tyabb which has red background crossbucks: www.google.com/maps/@-38.2710973,145.1895045,3a,75y,85.11h,68.74t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sLk29uCQmV5d9S1VzsggrRQ!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

Mont Albert and Union Road now have these red crossing boards as all the equipment was replaced during a construction blitz for the level crossing removal. I'm pretty sure they're the only gated lights on the metro network with those red boards

Yes! There are a few on the Ballarat line, there's two on the Bendigo line one at Raes Rd and one at Riddells Creek, aside from those there are no others I can think of.
