Why ?

If the trial drags for years, we have to keep paying the allowance until the next election? This kind of nonsense would not happen in the corporate world. If you stop working, you don’t get paid. Pay first and claw back later if guilty just complicates the whole matter.

An MP is paid X amount of money to perform his duties. If you're going to suspend all activities of the MP to cooperate in the investigation, then he is not performing his duties for that pay. hence pay deduction or pay stopage. If you are going to use the "innocent until proven guilty" argument, then why did they suspend him in the first place? since he is still innocent, he should be able to perform his MP duties.

Yes this is logical. It also applies to normal business in terms of employees. If an employee is suspected of some illegal deeds, then company will usually suspend that staff and do not allow that staff to enter office premises while investigations go underway. Salary can be also suspended as well since you are not doing your duties. So why is he not suspended while under investigation?

Firstly he is stopped from doing anything. So its not his fault he is doing nothing. Small minded people will see him as guilty and punished, until he is proven innocent. As Mr Pritam Singh has said, a person may not be necessarily be found guilty, there may be an acquittal. Good to see Mr Pritam Singh thinking, as what they do now will set the precedent in future. The PSP and PAP should not shoot themselves in the foot for political milage.

Seldom agree with WP and Pritam but this time I gotta say he brings a pretty fair point and good argument that we should put MP indicted without pay but not suspended. Suspension should only be decided after the full investigation and has been found guilty on the court of law.

As a worker having not be in the office one have to apply for leave/paid mc to be able to be get paid by end of the month. Iswaran should be made to come to work but on the same wage as the lowest wage employee in Singapore and he should be forced to take only public transportation. Government must show they are sincere in their efforts to show solidarity with the people so perhaps we can start with this minister.

nobody asked iswaran to be suspended as an MP, it's just stop paying the allowance, since iswaran is instructed by PM himself to stop his MP duties. no work no pay, as simple as that. to me, iswaran can still perform his MP duties and get paid, it's PM think otherwise.

Suspend all pay effective from date of official suspension. If acquitted, backpay salaries / allowances earned during suspension. If guilty, follow rules from monopoly: Go to Jail. Go Directly to Jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200.

Why is SG government not informing the public on the DETAILS of the corruption charge ?

Just fire him, he was elected for his party not him. Very few was elected for their personality. To say that against the peoples mandate is rubbish especially the people does not want a possible corrupt official. Once the case is done and he is innocent then take him back and charge those that accused him and give double sentence.

Looks like even among the oppositions there is no agreement, probably a lack of communication.........so what role is the Leader of the Opposition playing so far? Is there a genuine leader of the Opposition that has been accepted by other opposition parties although that is not mandatory in Singapore law .

Having heard Mr Singh mentioned that some have in the past been fully acquitted after the full investigation and the duration is uncertain. May I suggest once an official is put on such suspicion, he should be totally taken out of action and therefore without any revenue. However，should he be found clean, it is hence the justice to fully compensate in revenue during the whole period. As someone or somebody must be accountable for the initiation of such claims. This is to make aware that it is not what i think but what is it situation. To be accused of such an act, is a painful experience and hence they have to be compensated and assured that justice in all areas are provided.

The recent spate of scandals is likely to hurt the PAP’s chances in the next general election, which will be due by the end of 2025. In 2020, Iswaran’s West Coast Group Representation Constituency was held by only 1.7 per cent after his PAP team suffered a 26 per cent swing against it. After the PAP’s surprise loss of the Sengkang constituency in that election, there is a real possibility that it may not hold onto the West Coast constituency in the next election.

It should never be a who vs. who, or think of who can use it against whom. It is about principles of law and justice. Pritam is a lawyer, but he chose not to reinforce the principles of judicial process, presumption of innocence until proven in court… but take a political spin story to suggest the govt can use it as a political tool.

Kudos to the WP for having such a good quality leader with a balance view and doing away with emotional arguments, theatrics that the PSP seems so fond of! We need political intellectual maturity in all our elected MPs trying to score easy points using emotional arguments speak volumes of the character of the person(s) doing so! Such type of people are seldom fighting for the people that elected them instead they are just a vehicle for them to promote themselves not consider that actions have consequences and such emotional charge arguments cut both ways.

he trusted his teammate.. if you worked with someone for 10 years I think some basic trust over the words of a stranger is to be expected. compare that with the ruling party who allowed a known and confirmed affair to continue for YEARS with "counselling" and allow the person to sit in the speaker of parliament seat. it's clear which handling was worse.
