I'll never forget how the bathroom scene felt for me as a teen... First there's the obvious moral dilemma of torturing a human being and what if he wasn't the right person? but at the same time, the eeriness of how unresponsive he is... why isn't he answering...? That's very alarming Is there a threshold they can reach to make him talk? And the more failed attempts they do, the more unlikely he'll ever talk Then came the claw hammer... I'm watching the scene through my fingers, Keller can't bring himself to do it, he smashes the sink, terrifying the captive... and he still... doesn't talk... he's just relieved as they let him slide down against the wall Then this hopelessness permeates the room.. Nothing's working. We're crossing one boundary after another, with no results. They gained nothing but guilt and nausea...

  • @samuellivingston5255

the moral dilemma is so hard to judge correctly. You know he’s apart of this whole situation and you know he’s not completely functional upstairs (and Hugh jackman didn’t even believe he was actually mentally handicapped). The sympathy you have from knowing he’s got mental issues, and the anger you have from knowing he’s apart of the children’s disappearance makes the whole situation so hard to distinguish what’s the right coarse of action. So many hard topics displayed on screen that it’s unnerving to watch, but so captivating that you can’t look away

I wonder if the title doesn't just refer to the obvious: the children, the father a prisoner of his rage, the mother a prisoner of her grief, the son a prisoner of the father, etc. But it can also refer to the way we operate in this world. Recognizing patterns that aren't there, making assumptions, underestimating people. Prisoners of our own imperfection to look at the world as it is, instead choosing to see it as we decide it should be.

You read the title of the movie and you initially think it applies to just the abducted girls, but that's only a small piece of the bigger picture. Everyone is/ was a prisoner in this movie. The abducted girls were prisoners. That one's obvious. Alex/ Jimmy & Bobby are prisoners despite being physically released. Alex/ Jimmys mind was shattered due to the drugs and is forever 10 years old and Bobby Taylor was unable to move forward due to the trauma. The parents were prisoners of the unknown. They don't know where their kids are or if they're alive or dead. Loki is a prisoner in the lightest regard, but he's tasked with working out the case. When he smashes the items on his desk he's frustrated; like working thru a maze he feels stuck since the clues weren't adding up for him yet. Holly, as Arianna pointed out at the end, was a prisoner of her hatred towards God for her sons passing. Again, unable to move forward. And finally we the viewers are prisoners at the very end, hence the sudden black screen, since we don't know if Loki finds Keller at the end or if he thinks he's just hearing things. Although it's pretty strongly hinted at that he does find him. I think even the movie creator(s) even said as much in an interview at some point after the movie came out.

in alot of states you can take more female deer than male deer, depending on your state that is. In my state doe was unlimited in archery season because of the population was over grown and they kept getting hit by cars.

With the exception of 'Incendies', 'Prisoners' is the hardest hitting Villeneuve movie.

If you liked this movie, I think you’d enjoy and appreciate ‘True Detective Season 3’ for what it is. It definitely has a vibe like Prisoners.. So I’d definitely recommend sticking with true detective through seasons 2 and 3 to get to the upcoming season 4..

Hugh Jackman was obviously fantastic, but I also really liked Jake Gyllenhal. His character was more understated, but he felt like such a real person and was an interesting representation of a competent detective who wasn't a cinematic super-cop.
