According to an article about The Other Guys, the director answer why Michael Keaton's character makes many references to TLC. "We were trying to write phrases for the captain that were tough-guy euphemisms," McKay said. "We had a draft where he said all this crazy stuff and out of that I started to say, 'Don't go chasing waterfalls,' and everyone started laughing. Then we called it back two more times, and then Keaton was doing them so well, we added more." "We came up with a whole backstory that he drove his son to college and his son played a TLC greatest-hits CD the whole time but the captain was never aware what he was listening to," he added. "We knew at least 35 percent of the audience would have no idea who TLC is, but we were like, It's too funny!' "

I adore this movie. Out of that whole sequence of films that Will Ferrell did with Adam McKay, this is easily my favorite, and I feel like it's quasi-forgotten, for some reason. Admittedly, I am biased, since I'm from NYC, live there now, and had just moved back there three months earlier when this came out in 2010, so, it occupies a certain place in my heart, since the summer of 2010 was very important to me. My ex-girlfriend and I watched it on repeat at least once-a-week for the following three years. She and I still randomly quote it to each other to this day! I love that this whole film just REEKS of 2009/2010 NYC, helped along by it being filmed almost-entirely on location. ....90% of it in Chelsea, for some reason? But the best part might be Michael Keaton, basically just being himself. XD And a special shout out to the end credits spending their entire length just flipping the bird at the entire finance industry and megacorporations, even ending with a pile of money underneath the Sony logo! Wonder if McKay got chewed out for that.

The Other guys was funny from the beginning to the credits rolling with a final joke. It brings a tear to my eye because it is so perfect. When he whispers "GUYS GUYS GUYS"! I crack up every time.
"I'm a peacock, you gotta let me fly!" I use that line WAY too much. I did get to use the "It's Bed Bath, and Beyond, not Bed, Bath, and way the f*ck out there" line once.
That is one of my all-time favorite comedies EVER... and strangely a LOT of people haven't seen it before. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
"YOU SHOULDA SHOT A-ROD!" I wasn't expecting that I spit out my food.
I’ve always loved the joke where he mentions editing 3 minutes out of Goodfellas, I figured he edited out the cuss words, and that took a whole three minutes off.🤣
According to an article about The Other Guys, the director answer why Michael Keaton's character makes many references to TLC.

So the captain genuinely didn’t understand the references he made? That’s hilarious 😂 Though I originally thought he was intentionally referencing them but acting like he didn’t understand
Such an underrated comedy. So good. You have to try "the nice guys" with Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. Hysterical.

I don't even remember when this hit theaters. Maybe it didn't get enough promotion, or it was overshadowed by some blockbuster release at the time.
R.I.P. Anne Heche. Y'all should do more comedies! Laughter is the best medicine!
Recognizes Ice-T after 2 syllables, and loves it. That's a keeper.
This is THE funniest comedy of the 2010s. For sure!
The bushes part was hilarious! Arianna rocking out slowly realizing there were no bushes!!! 😂
Tropic Thunder and The Other Guys came out around the same time, and I'd rank both in the funniest movies ever made list.
Definitely one of my top ten "Helicopter taken out by golfers at a driving range" scenes ever.
If you haven't seen "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" with Will Ferrell, I recommend it. I really love your reactions. And I see that your smile and your laugh start from your good heart. All the best, you're great! 😀

5:51 - I love it. She's so into the soundtrack until the realization hits that they're going to hit the pavement below. lmao

I don't think it's your bias. It's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen and I think it's outrageously under rated

Possibly didn't get chewed out. You can wag your finger at them. But, you can't wag the finger at the politicians who bail them out and take their money. That threatens Democracy?!?
Watching the realization on Arianna's face as there aren't bushes...WORTH the zoom!
I am so glad I watched this in theaters when it came out.
The Captain constantly referencing TLC while having no idea who they are is my favorite running joke in any movie
Anne Heche and Ray Stephenson, both passed away in the past cpl years, Stephenson just passed away a few days ago. he was awesome.
"You learned to dance like that sarcastically?"
"You can't have conscious in pimp game man" 😂😂
This was such an underrated movie. Comedies are difficult to have consistently funny from star tto finish without becoming old or a burden to get through. The Other guys was funny from the beginning to the credits rolling with a final joke. It brings a tear to my eye because it is so perfect. I dont think itd be as funny if both main characters didnt have their own tpyecast in hollywood. "The sound of your urine hitting the urinal....it sound feminine..." Like, bruh, why is that so funny
"Aim for the bushes" "Are they gonna miss?" Love how she thought it was actually possible 😂

Well it is an action comedy. People do impossible stuff in these movies all the time. Look at what the rock pulls off in the fast n furious franchise.
I hereby call for a petition for Arianna reacting to Ocean's 13
Absolute BS that someone would flag this video... I'm sorry.
Funny when will ferrel talks about he calls bullshit on people walking away from explosions 🤣 considering his part in “cool guys don’t look at explosions “ song 🤣

Goddamn it’s great to see Arianna laugh so much! God bless her, she emotes us through so much sad, traumatic stuff…
5:55 Realizing they weren't gonna hit the bushes was great 😂😂💀
Michael Keaton moonlighting at BedBathandBeyond was a nice comedic touch.
When Arianna started coughing from her laughter, I honestly thought this movie was going to kill her. LOL
This movie is so slept on... joke per second is off the charts
That's also Rosie Perez sitting next to Mark, and Tracy Morgan sitting next to Brook Shields at the basketball game.
Great movie. It's one of my favorites
Arianna laughed harder in this movie than ive seen her laugh. Amazing.
This film is so ahead of its time. I've been watching it again tonight and it's epic
Will just happens to be in some of the most iconic guy movies ever, one that he wasn't in tho was Tropic Thunder but i guess it would've been waaaay too many big names. This is a hilarious movie, Mark's intensity opposite Will's naivete worked perfectly. Loved this reaction vid. I'm gonna check out what other ones you have that i might enjoy
This movie has jokes on 3 levels. Like reading levels. Took me till 3rd viewing to catch the merc swiping his finger across the covered Prius.
The writing for this movie is sooo good
Wait ... "there's no bushes". Yeah sister, we all thought that 😂😂
Love the new format you've got 10/10
I forgot how funny this movie is. Great reaction.
I keep saying to my screen, "breathe Arianna! Breathe!!!" 😂 awesomeness
This movie is so much better than I expected - love it
I love this movie and also your reaction! Other great movies starring Will Ferrell are: *Zoolander (2001)* (starring *Ben Stiller* & *Owen Wilson* ) *Daddy's Home (2015)* (starring *Mark Wahlberg* ) *Daddy's Home 2 (2017)* (starring *Mel Gibson* & *Jhon Cena* )

“There’s no bushes” 🤣😂😭 moments before disaster
Saw this in the theater, nearly pissed myself
"Aim for the bushes". I'm dead.
So happy Arianna gets to react to this one too. Loved her reaction to Tropic Thunder, my first thought was we need more comedy.
I saw Gabe and David Wallace from the Office. Plus Will was on that show too.
If you haven’t seen Zoolander, Will Ferrell plays the bad guy, it would be great for a reaction!
After hearing the "soup kitchen" reference I'll never eat soup again.
This movie is from when almost every movie I went to in the theaters Samuel l Jackson was in it. Like I wasn't trying to see movies he was in but it was like he was taking a role in every movie he could get into.
I met Mark at the Wahlberger restaurant around the corner from my place.
The "familiar" actress was Anne Heche, who died in a fiery car crash last year.
The quiet fight! So funny.
One of my favourite comedies.
This movie had a surprisingly meaningful message, presented in an amazing way
Girl- you had me jamming to waterfalls 😂
My favorite joke is the one that goes untold and you don't even realize it until a rewatch: the story Sheila and Allen (Gator) tells about how they met in the hospital, Allen's bout of poison ivy ass, is a made up story. So they made up THAT story, rather than something less embarrassing. I like the humility to leave that laugh for you to find later.
I’ve gone by the name Gator many times since I saw this flick…mostly on Facebook but…😂
Wait, there's no bushes .... yeah, I fell off my chair in the theater
Wendys had this mushroom and Swiss burger that was great. You could get fries and a drink. I always used ranch sauce with the fries.
Fun Fact: the man who played "Dirty Mike" was also the director of the movie.
Lol, oh look he's flying 😅
Good year too
This movie is the most realistic movie I've seen. The jump to death. Oof. 🤣
That Wendy's baconanteor was good, 👍🔥🔥👍👍👍👍👍
This Movie is a Comedy Classic! One of the best of all time!
Great reaction
The woman with the long blonde hair was Anne Heche. She died last year in a bizarre car crash.
Not showing the art gallery scene is a crime.
“I myself have 18 Lamborghinis… and a Subaru station wagon”
I didn't remember this many big names being in this movie!
"He's a bi-racial angel!" Talking about Derek Jeter😂😂😂
The Anchorman 1 and 2 , also very funny ...
