It's not her expression, her entire facial structure changed. The same artwork changes Kung Fu Peach's face to a much more expressive, angry one, but she still keeps her usual facial structure. If it was simply her expression on the key pose, then people would be treating it more like a funny "Kirby is angry on the box art" change than a negative thing. *_EDIT to summarize stuff I say later in the replies:_* I did direct comparisons with a recent Peach model-- tilting her head to have the same angle as the new box art, and yeah she's still very different. Her eyes, nose, mouth, jawline... it's all different. She even has extra eyelashes, which definitely doesn't just happen from tilting her head. Ultimately, her design being different isn't a big deal. It's just a marketing thing, and she's gonna look fine and normal in-game. But please don't tell me that they "just tilted her head." They either altered the model or painted over the original render.

I'm personally not too bothered by it and frankly I'm happy that she has more depth now, but I do wish she'd had character development from her original self INTO a character with more depth instead of changing her so abruptly to a personality that already exists in the universe. She is no stranger to determination and working hard, but she has changed in general as a person too from what I've seen. But that's just me sharing my opinion 😅 I can see both sides here.

I think it’s just because the original look felt more like peach bc it looked closer to her modern game design while we aren’t super used to the movie version

I'm playing Jedi survivor right now and the amount of customization that you can do to this guy and his robot is insane and it makes no difference in the game. And yet we spend a bunch of hours trying to get all the pants and mustaches in the canyons. The amount of time you waste dressing your digital dolls is silly. Trying to talk to people in real life is like what did you do this afternoon oh yeah I found a mullet and a goatee and a commander pants for my guy!

While I don’t like it, I can completely understand if someone else likes it. And besides, it’s just the cover art, it’s not like it’s the in-game model.

Plus it's not like she was never tough before. Like in Smash Bros. Brawl story mode for example, she was girly & bubbly & you couldn't tell whether she was unaware of the explosions around her or just indifferent to them but she was about as fearless as Mario & was a total badass.

Their goal was to make her a bit more emotive than just having her usual blank smile, but they could have done this without actually changing her face.

i haaaaate her movie design! it’s like they tried to make her into an adventure time version of herself and people say that it makes her more expressive? they could have just made her expressive on the original model!

They literally just gave her Movie Peach's face for the cover. Yes, she looks like she's emoting more, but it's literally just Movie Peach's face on it, and that's actually misleading because some people are going to think that Movie Peach is in this game instead of Videogame Peach. Plus, they don't exactly look like each other. They very clearly have different facial structures. Yes, I can't say I'm one of those who's pleased with the cover change. Movie Peach is her own alternative version of the character who stands out, while Videogame Peach is also able to stand on her own too.

I think they did it to appeal to people who only watched the movie because on closer inspection of the new and old cover they literally only changed the face structure of the Peach in the middle despite also giving Kung Fu Peach a new expression.

Second one looks super Americanized. My first thought was on how kirby is angry in American release but not in original. After that i think it looks like an uncanny doll based on a show designed to sell toys. Original is ambiguous enough to be passable as cartoonish update doesn't achieve enough realism to justify setting Eden on fire.

The peach in the movie (and this poster) looks more like modern 3d kids cartoons. It's a very obvious sign of something designed by committee rather than with passion.

I HATE the new look. She had a unique look which was very easy to recognise and there was nothing wrong with it. The new look looks just like EVERYTHING ELSE these days. They literally just take away the unique charm of the design to make it more like the mainstream art which looks super boring since it's so common now.

Princess peach can still be that cute and bubbly princess that goes on adventure AND look determined on the game box, and angry when giving a kick (I think that makes more sense, if she was still smiling and all happy while kicking, I would have thought nintendo just forgot to give her face animations). Peoples needs to realize women have emotions too. Also, makes sense for nintendo to try to detache peach from being the one dimensional bubbly girl, since she literally used to be a trophy girl in mario on the nes (just like they did with pauline).

I think it's the angle and facial expression that makes her look like a movie peach clone. In the gameplay and in other shots it looks inspired by the movie, but keeps enough of the original design that she still feels like a separate peach.

I actually analysed the two covers and the thing is they actually kept fighter Peach's face the same, just giving her a different expression meanwhile middle peach's face structure was changed.

I don't think this is a huge deal. I may perfer the previous one a little more, but this isn't bad at all. The Mario Movie animated her very well, so I don't mind them taking inspiration from it.

My favorite personality/representation for Peach was in Brawl (Subspace). She was sweet and cute and her usual refined self,but could also be authoritative in a lady like way (when she scolded Game and Watch and stopped Sheik and Fox from fighting). She acted more like Daisy in the movie and I didn’t like that…Brawl was perfect

Daisy is actually a character created by a different company and Nintendo tends to steer away from putting characters they didn't create as part of their mainline games. It's why Waluigi has never been in the spotlight, as his first appearance was in Mario Tennis, which was not developed by Nintendo. With Super Mario Wonder though, it seems Nintendo is relaxing that stance, at least a little bit. As for Rosa, she's kinda more "extra" than Peach and Daisy. She's a galactic level character who is canonically vastly more powerful than Peach and Daisy, so her game would have to reflect this.

The worst part of all this is people gaslighting us, saying that it's just a different expression or different lighting and it makes her look like she has a personality. They changed her whole face, and it just doesn't match the personality that Peach has ALWAYS had.

I think its the shadows and the angle of Peach's face for me. They look kinda weird and obscure certian features her face more then the first iteration. But its silly to be mad about it lol.

More so the Japanese than everyone but yea. They dont like their culture being changed for the rest of the world wich i can get tbh. So much cencorship and even bans for many japanese Anime games for example.

Mario and Luigi = basically same people but with differences that kinda makes them rivals, Mario is kinda above Luigi. Same thing with daisy and peach if you change peach’s personality a bit like they have. It’s a good change and plus it shows peach is braver than she seems she can be

Peach's games are some I need to spend some time playing...

I think only true Peach fans, like me, are sad and a little mad. 😓 We grew up with the previous design and it's the one we love. 💕 The thing is, the previus art was perfect and represented my heroine very well. The new design doesn't even feel like my Peach. 😢 It makes me sad and afraid that this change will be for future games too.

They added a shadow to the left side of her face and modified the way her eyes look up, so instead of looking like she is facing up directly it looks like she slightly tilting her head to the side. Its not something major, but some of yall are acting like they turned her into a dyke.

Because when her movie poster came out I found all the differences and I noticed they were similar/the same for this change to the cover. It's jaring and in reality pretty unreasonable really. But that's just a small summary

Kinda. The outrage is mostly coming from Japan. Japanese dont like western culture since it tends to make their media political, Childish, 'woke' or just straight out completely different. So them seeing Peach change to be more like the movie Version has made them worried and can we really blame em considering whats happening there these days? Games from japan are refused for having girls look too pretty for heavens sake lol.

Felt like they did that with Mario and Mario Brothers wander also. Looks like he resembles the cartoon more

Personally I prefer movie peach because she has alot more emotional range and personality than in the games. Just my opinion tho

It's called modernizing the characters. I always saw game Peach as very cute, but she looks like a very Europeanized porcelain Japanese doll with a gentle sing-songy voice, and considering the country that made it, it kinda makes sense. The creator actually said she was supposed to be cat-like. There's nothing good or bad about her past design, but it they are modifying her, especially since the movie was so popular, I guess that's what's going to have to happen. I could tell in the Mario Wonder trailer by her gruffer "huh?" voice at Bowser, and putting her hands on her hips that she would be going through a change. Pre-movie Peach would have lightly said "Oh", bent over slightly, and put a hand to her mouth. I could spot the difference. Though unfortunately, now she's being pinned as wanna-be Daisy. In that case, they are REALLY gonna have to up the butchy tomboyness on Daisy by contrast, though. XD And I'm saying that as a tomboy as well.

That's a good analysis. I have to wonder if Daisy is the tomboy in being the more extroverted energetic one, but Peach being more a tomboy in being the one who'll go farther with her actions.

Honestly I just think people are sick and tired of the masculinization of traditionally feminine characters. Yes Peach would get involved in the action and help Mario when able but she would either be rendered unable by Bowser or have a supportive role, which women statistically choose to do anyways. I hated that aspect of Movie Peach. She was WAAAAY too involved compared to the supportive role Peach has historically had and it rubbed me horribly. This look makes people worried that Peach will no longer be a supporter and instead compete with Mario seriously and it's insulting to femininity that this is considered progress. Like what the hell is wrong being a princess and staying in the back with some buffs, heals and debuffs? It's completely valid to have a traditional princess that sits back and leads with support. But the media has basically sent the message that if any girl is feminine and prefers not to engage in conflict or support people from the side lines they aren't okay and MUST be FORCED by the all know hand of Feminism into conflict, aggression and to fight. It's ridiculous. That's probably what a lot of people are mad about. It's one thing to have a stupid Americanized propaganda piece limited to that one crappy movie but the fact it's spreading to the whole franchise is a problem.

This 'new Peach' was the part of the movie I disliked the most. I'm a Peach fan, I've played as her in many games and they definitely gave her a Daisy vibe.

Her taking a more active role does not effect her femininity at all, it only effects her personality since she likes to take more passive roles. It's insulting to say that in order to be feminine you need to sit back with your buffs and let others be active.

It's foolish to try and divorce feminine behavior from femininity on top of, again, sexist and insulting. Like, do you devalue people who are passive and just buff stuff? You don't think that there is ample representation of active roles characters in the Mario universe? Why are you so insistent that Peach be more active and masculine when as a character we all know her to be feminine and passive? Do you just hate passive women and want to force them to be active because you think passive women are beneath active women? This is the whole problem. Just leave characters alone and use the characters that already made for the role you are aiming it. Everyone has no problem is Daisy, the tomboy, active role, masculine princesses. So it's not some sexist slight saying all women must be passive. But it becomes a sexist slight when the overtly feminine and passive character is no longer passive and feminine and starts to become masculinized as the only method of progress. It's insulting to a majority of women, who again are statistically more passive, to be told to ignore that aspect of their womanhood because it's inconvenient for the feminist social agenda. Respect passive feminine women and leave them alone. Play Daisy, stan her if you want an aggressive active woman. But leave Peach out of these regressive social politics. Stick to her lore and character as a passive feminine character.

peach can practice soft power like she always has. But they dont want her to.

I actually really like the redesign! The reason why this doesn't work for Kirby is because he's meant to be a happy little guy who smiles through anything! Meanwhile, Princess Peach is the ruler of a kingdom and should be showing her authority. It's ok to have fun, but you should put your foot down every so often. Movie Peach is S tier because her character, no matter how corporate-ized or woke-ized or whatever-ized, is strong and just.

I like the new face design. It makes her way more expressive, as a peach fan my self I think that's the right decision Nintendo made for Peach as she is a character who relay everything on her emotions. Especially since she will be the protagonist of a gme she can't always have that stiff face expression.

They gave Kung Fu peach a new expression while not changing her face structure, her face structure is not the problem and doesn't need to be changed to make her more expressive.

I like the film but I hope they don't actually try to make the characters like their film counterparts, it really wouldn't suit them in game.

To me the old design cover never rlly stuck with me the more i looked at it, peach isnt just some damsel in distress, and it seems that with this game [and mario bros wonder cuz she was a playable character] Nintendo is trying to remind us of this, her new expression makes her look more determined to reach whatever goal she has, and i rlly like that, all they did was change the placement of her head change her expression and give it some shading, and i dont think it looks like her movie design. I know that others may not like it cuz everyone has different tastes, but im happy that they made this change

Daisie was supposed to be fiesty and confidente! Every princesses has différent personnality to different them- but resently they decided to switched it up for some raison. As someone who liked Peach in the movie (and liked how she looked in the movie) I feel iffy about this because I don’t want Mario updating it’s art style to look more like Illumination. Ehh whatever.

Exactly. Who ever made this change should have serious consequences. Plus I don't care about this game anyways. I hope the game fails hard enough. Not very interesting and is basically a kirby clone. 😂

I prefer the older look but it's not that big of a deal. Still want to try the game.

I’m not a big fan of the argument that making her more bad ass or more determined/fierce is taking too much over onto Daisy’s front. The eyebrows make her face look a bit more different but Peach has always had a side of bad ass to her while keeping her femininity. She’s the more stoic and “feminine” of her and Daisy. If, or when, they introduce Daisy into the movies or more stories, if they lean more into her brash, loud, and more aggressive/competitive personality, then they just kinda slid both of them more towards the bad ass side but in equal measure. If they don’t really amp up Daisy’s differences then it’ll be more of a problem. Plus, I feel like her old face might’ve looked a bit weird in this art style and with all the changes in appearance she’ll be having in the new game.
