She was a mystic who was misunderstood as a madwoman. The smilarity of symptoms between a shaman/ mystic and an insane person are similar, but not the same. The mere fact that she continued to do charity work and service till the end of her life , earned for her the privilege of resting on the Church of Mary Magdalene, Mount of Olives, Jerusalem. Watching this made me understand the blessing upon the Royalty of Britain through the family of the Duke of Edinburgh , his Mother the Princess-Nun (Princess Alice), and even through Prince Charles, who had a frame of mind and sensitivity of soul, much conducive for an Inter-Faith paradigm. Much blessings of Light be upon you, dear Royal Family!

The sad part I that no one understood deafness in people. Until recently people thought being "deaf" was being cursed by the devil. They were considered crazy and locked up in a sanitarium. They never bothered to work with deaf people or try to learn their language. It's sad. We've come a long way since then, but we still have a long way to go to understanding deaf people and deaf culture.

Alice was an extraordinary woman. Overcoming deafness to lip read in 3 languages, being a devoted mother, to 5 children, her nursing work in Greece during the Balkan Wars, escaped and survived being put into a sanitorium, opened a soup kitchen in Athens, hiding a Jewish family in Athens during the Holocaust at immense personal risk, becoming a nun and founding a convent in Athens. William and the entire royal family are blessed to have Princess Alice to remember and her life of compassion, charity, and service.

The Saint Elizabeth they refer to was Alice's aunt Ella. She was a Hessian princess, granddaughter of Victoria and sister of Alexandra, last Tsarita of Russia. She married a Russian Grand Duke, cousin of the Tsar. After his assassination she became a nun and devoted her life to nursing poor patients at a Moscow charity hospital. The Communists murdered her and tossed her body down a mineshaft with other Russian royals. She was easily identified later as she was wearing her nuns cross. As it was made of cheap metal not silver or jewels the murderers hadn't stolen it like the necklaces etc of the others. She inspired her niece Alice to become an Orthodox nun after WW2.

I found this more than "touching" I totally get it that HRH Prince Charles would visit her...After all he knew her well. But for William to go...means a lot...One suspects he was doing so, as much as anything ...Because his Grandfather...Princess Alice's Son...cant. Princess Alice was a total Character and I was delighted the Documentary cover so much of what could have been labeled a ...sad life... But she wasn't a sad person...Though, one has to ask... what must she felt having been "taken" from her home...at the request of her own Mother...This was terrible & made worse by the fact...They never visited her. She ended her days...safe and happy in the home of her only Son and his wife...The Queen.

Kandy Kandy...You do need to do your homework before you comment... Prince Charles was 21 when his Grandmother died. Princess Anne was 19...Prince Andrew was 9 years old...even that's not even what I call a small child. Though Prince Edward was only 5. Prince Charles knew his grandmother well though she only spent a few years at the end of her life ...living at Buckingham Palace... She did visit ! HRH The Duke of Edinburgh was very fond (and later in life) was very close to his Mother though I'm not sure what Princess Alice's relationship was like with her Daughters ? Certainly; Prince Phillips second eldest Sister...Princess Theodora used to make private visits to spend time with Phillip and The Queen and maybe her Mother ? ( who would be there also)...These visits were kept low Key...Almost always staying at Balmoral, the private summer residence of the Monarch away from any cameras... and court schedules. Prince Phillips relationship with his sisters...could not have been an easy one...Almost all married German Princes/Dukes....and possibly most were Nazi (supporting) Officers.. Not true of Princess Theodora's husband Berthold Margrave of Baden he was vocal in his dislike of nazi'sm and supoported Jewish friends. One other Sister...Princess Cecilie and all but one for her children and her Husband died in a plane crash in 1937 near Ostend in Belgium...they were all on there way to a wedding in Britain...Princess Cecilie was heavily pregnant and was terrified of flying...they found her new born child a son dead amongst the other bodies...Poor woman had clearly gone into labour on the flight. Another sister...closer in age to Philip was Princess Sophia married at 17 She was married to Prince Christoph of Hesse who became a German Luftwaffe Pilot, He was killed in a plane crash too. Sophia married a second time...During the war to another German Prince and went on to have 3 more children. Some time after the war...Sophia would also visit her Brother in Britain. Sophia was eventually asked to be Godmother to Prince Edward. ...Time heals... Sophia or Tiny ( Tiney ) from her two marriages had many children ( 8, I think) and she helped to bring up her Brother in Laws 4 children...she was always a favorite Aunt to the Queens Children. She attended her Mother's internment in Israel along with Prince Phillip. All surviving Sisters of Prince Philip attended the Coronation of HM The Queen.

Jim Steele Not at all. The Greek Royal Family is Danish principally. A son of the king of Denmark was invited to be king during the later years of the 19th century. Their surname is Schleswig-Holstein Glucksburg Sonderburg.

Jim Steele and M Scott His mother was definitely German, Hessian. The Danish side (Schleswig-Holstein Glucksburg Sonderburg) is actually a German house, too. But, marrying the British heir to the throne so soon after WWII meant that it was kept on the down low. As far as the the British royal family and the British government and the British (and American) press were concerned, he was Greek ... even if he did look like a Viking.

I thought that once you are born in a country you imidiatly are that country's national!but of course here you all have different opinions to your liking, you see what matters is what you feel about it.Prince Phillip didn't talk much about it because his behaviour and wit was profoundly Greek.he was original and he didn't have to advertise of his feelings such a great man worthy of such a great Queen!

@@vasokara2672 You are correct. Philip was Greek as he was born there. He became a British citizen when he married the then Princess Elizabeth in 1947. He had to forfeit all his previous,(foreign), royal titles and became Prince Philip of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and N.Ireland, Duke of Edinburgh.

These are not Russian Catholics, they are Russian Orthodox... When you are a guest, you do as your hosts do' Have you never heard the old saying "When in Rome, do as the Roman's do"? It is an insult not to partake of what is offered to you during such a visit...
