One of the many reasons I love and admire Prince is that he never feeds into the negative comments said about him. I especially loved his answer to the question "If you and MJ got into a fist fight who would win". Prince's brilliant response was "Michael's a lover not a fighter". He brillantly quoted a line from MJ's duet song with Paul McCartney "The Girl is Mine". Prince doesnt see himself as others do. He always answers questions with a very highly intelligent answer. Loved this interview.

This was why, as he said, he choose never to speak publicly about MJ, because he was smart enough to know that someone would try to agitate. The media had a history of doing this with prominent black figures, as they did with Martin and Malcolm during the 60's, as well as Ali and Frazier during the 70's.

True words, absolutely true! He was such a unique package, as man and musician. I'd say with rare qualities and combinations, even surreal. Very very rare gem.💜🌟🍀

It's funny, he was speaking about how there needs to be am avenue that unknown musicians can use to self promote their own music and to bypass having to sign a record contract with a big company, and now there's ways to do that, like SoundCloud, etc. The man truly was a visionary in so many ways and on so many levels. There will certainly never be another one like him.

Prince was truly a visionary, spoke truth to power, and threatened to upturn the music business. He was very brave. I look at modern artists and shake my head, there's too much reliance on technology for one thing and it just not uplifting. Prince had a beautiful vision of the world, he was unbounded and free. He didn't let race, stardom or gender define him, Prince was a radiant being and a gift to world. He is dearly missed.

I miss him so much ...I wish I could have met. He is so relaxed and calm in the interview. I would have talked to him for hours. He will forever be my prince. There will never be another like him.

Latoya Hodson I miss him too. Listening and watching all of his interviews after his journey here on Earth, makes me happy that he was working on his released music to originate it. This was very important to Prince. I haven't heard anything negative about him except that he was addicted to his own perfectionism. Love him 💜

I met prince in February of 2000 and hung up at paisley park parties every Friday for a few years. He was a beautiful person inside and out.💜

I find him really honest here about his love life, more than usual. He says contrary to what’s being reported that he and Mayte remained friends, and that’s true because she was still touring with him, she in concert videos at this time, they didn’t split up as she describes in her book.

Prince just amazing self taught very intelligent spiritual man he can peek out anything to music to conducting business .he made sure that no contract was going to talk his rights to his music i was very shy in person but on stage his energy his sexual healing comes out .i think that he is the most gifted man .just listening to him speak up on his interviews he breaks it down to ppl .yes he so well grounded his support system of fans and family and friends what made him happy..plus different music instruments thar he played what music artist do you that can play anything like him .

Apart from being a creative genius he was making a lot of sense about changing the music business and preserving an Artis,s artistic property and reducting the corprate distribution shakles from the business, the problem was he had the voice and the power and the funds to take them on, which made him dangerous and a threat to the status quo within the music business. He should have teamed up with people like Steve Jobs and collaborated in a fair version of Itunes etc. I hold very highly his fear and goal of making the young generation of the artistry and the skills and dedication required in being a real artist and playing and not having been a produced single orientatd commodity in a studio, which you could not recognize live as being the same artist. I admire his courage as I did when George Michael took on the biggies..Prince was an original and he reached people and changed minds and hearts that,s the greatest compliment. Long live the purple Mozart! I was actually in my favourtie Bar the Cauldron in Sydney Aust when Prine arrived to take over our private members bar in the back, security came and said every body out, Prince had mentioned any regulars there who belong there are welcome to stay, it,s there joint... That says it all about the man personally.

This was a amazing Prince interview. He touch on so many topics about what he is doing and I love his sense of humor. He seems so relax and handsome with the sweater and glasses he was wearing. I am so happy he was taking a break to go through his spiritual journey and to see what's next for his life to come. Beautiful. 💜🥰🤗💜

The video itself was nice to hear but the back ground noise was horrible. I miss prince. I listen to all his music. Grew up listening to him. Try and collect all music he has ever made. Merely impossible he made so much. He is really funny and a very educated person to listen to.

Their private life was just that, private. We were privileged to be a part of his musical life only, and that should be more than enough. They both reaped whatever they sowed, as we ALL do. Mistakes were made and forgiveness was given. Don't know about you, but I'm really thankful for forgiveness!

My only issue is when people forget that although Prince was a musical genius he was still just a man and a very flawed one at that. Considering their (Prince and Mayte) age difference you would think he would have learned an awfully lot more by this time in his life from all his prior misgivings but it's very apparent that is not the case!! Forgiveness from God comes when you are truly sorry for your sin and vow not to repeat it again, but it seems that Prince was unable to keep his private issues completely private and thus we know repeatedly committed the same sin just with a new woman. Also his habit of lying to cover up his various sins was something we now know he continued to his death, such a shame for a man who claimed to be so Godly but couldn't stop sinning against him, and was doomed to repeat many of the same sins over and over and over again. SMH 😥

The industry has not changed it just has new gate keepers ie streaming services. Artists still can’t get heard without tons of money and promotional campaigns also the streaming services are partnering with the label because it’s the only way to be able to get permission to stream the catalogs of artists that they OWN. They still own the masters of 90% of the music being streamed today. On another note...is it time to tell Paisley to release “When 2 R In Love (The Ballads Of Prince) I’d be curious to hear the track listing. #Prince4Ever

I’m not even in the music industry yet I understand his frustration! He just wanted things to be fair and didn’t want anyone trying to play him or any other creative when it came to their work. That’s it. Wow! He went through a lot during this time! But, he ultimately won in the end! Rest well, Prince. You don’t have to fight anyone or anything, anymore. 💜

I find it so incredibly maddening that people seem to always realize that they truly liked someone, once that person is gone. People who are smart are no sheep and don't follow. Trusting your own family blindly can put you in a world of pain, if you don't have something truly rare.

He messed around on Mayte with Manuela. Here's a little food for thought....Manuela was deceiving in her pursuit of Prince. She expressed interest in the JW religion because Prince was getting deep into their teachings. You might notice the minute the divorce was finalized, Manuela was no longer a JW follower. THAT is unrefuted proof that she is dishonest and pursued a vulnerable man in his time of deep mourning.

a person that is art not true, Prince and Mayte had a two year separation and were divorced in 2000 by mutual agreement. Prince said their marriage was annulled and there’s only two ways this can happen, either by living apart without a sexual relationship or if a person is forced to marry someone in the first place. Prince remained friends with Mayte which is why she still toured with him and danced on stage but they were already divorced at the time of this video, he was dating Manuela and he married her in 2001. He wasn’t messing with Manuela is all I was really saying, he was serious.

Well,with everyone trying to make sense out of this marriage to Mayte, and thir child, I believe it wasn't meant to be for them,she was to young ,innocent, a virgin, new nothing about Prince!! He saw her and her mother standing out side of a concert, remember people she was looking to Dance with an artist, and they picked Prince.. so she gets the one time chance to meet him gives her tape so he can see what she can do. And then he realizes she's a virgin, we all know how prince loved young women!! He clearly states in this interview that he and Mayte planned on getting back together in the future. That would explain why he had that stalker and 1998 mistress he accidentally married living alone in a Minnesota townhouse by 2002/2003 which she hot evicted from and then locked her out of his homes in America and blocked all of her phones calls to him by Feb 2005 after moved himself to LA closer to where Mayte was that January after a year of touring and after he left her behind in Canada as he had planned to do to her . He really did that like that girl and constantly complained about her publicly but she obviously would not leave and claimed that she would commit suicide so Prince dumped her crazy behind and immediately reported her behavior to authorities ( to protect himself legally) while locked her out of his totally , moved on and never went back. He moved straight from LA to Las Vegas ( where he met Shelby J) to avoid any contact with that nuts case

Love this interview, love his look in his glasses. It is interesting to hear him speak so freely and so intelligently about music and the industry!!! It hurts me to hear that he can't get through a 20 minute conversation without bringing up Larry Graham twice and his Bible studies several times, after all LG was still in the process of converting him and making sure he became a JW, which he never needed he was always a man who had true faith in God and lived by God he just didn't like organized religion. He particularly didn't like the Seventh Day Adventist which he spoke about very early in his career because of the way they presented the relationship of God and man and LG comes along and drags him into the JW religion which is basically the other half of SDA. He didn't need this or someone like LG in his life because P thought of him (LG) as a spiritual leader and friend, yet when it came right down to it in the end he didn't get P the help he needed like any true Christian or friend would have done. It also hurts that he didn't tell the truth that he had divorced Mayte 3 months prior to this interview, was he ashamed of the way he threw her out after they lost their son and then had a miscarriage or just ashamed of what he threw her out with?? He gave her a huge mansion in Spain that she couldn't sell and had no way of affording the upkeep on, she had told payroll to stop paying her once they were married and had gone through the money she came here with at 17 to pay for her apartment all while making no money from P and then when she started making money dancing for him, it was a third of what she was paid as a belly dancer!! He had much to hide and be ashamed of about the way he treated her!!!! He also didn't mention the woman who had been in his life romantically for quite a while at this point!!! While he was a genius when it came to music he had a long way to go in becoming a man and LG and the JW obviously weren't helping him in this area, unless they taught him how to use tricky answers and deceive everyone about the truth!!!! Sad to see him in this state and wonder is this the way he has always been, has he always lied and deceived to make things look better for and about himself?? 💔

Fannie Dixon I too believe that Mayte has loved him all these years and yes he did pursue her for years. I think at first after the divorce she was in a state of shock and maybe became a bit bitter toward him but I don't think she will ever get over him or stop loving him. I admire him so much as a singer, dancer, musician and overall showman but I think his upbringing left him without the skills to handle serious relationships and love!!! It bothers me how he always had to have total control over everything and he convinced Mayte to lie about the death of their child because he had an important album coming out, in my opinion being honest would probably have made sales go through the roof, just my own feelings. I hope he didn't live his entire life always telling lies and faking his way through it all, only truly being concerned about his music and his shows because that would just be so sad. I hate to think that he died alone because he couldn't be real enough with at least one person and ask for help with his problem. So so sad to imagine being that lonely. 😢

pauline Hayel thank you, many people who love Prince the musical genius can't see him for the very mixed up man he was. It's sad but true, I think a lot of his insecurities especially with women came from his upbringing as a little boy and his lonely teenage years without a mother or father who truly cared for him. Then he shot to fame so fast and got whatever he wanted whenever he wanted it and that doesn't help anyone's character. I do think this is why he had so many broken engagements and would just walk away and close the door on that section of his life. I don't think he really knew how to be a man and have a truly loving relationship with a woman, this was probably why he liked young girls so much too. I think Mayte was good for him though, he opened up much more when he was with her and started actually talking in talk shows not just performing and running away. He let Larry Graham into his head way to much and when he couldn't grieve with Mayte over the loss of their children he turned to LG who convinced him that Mayte was not the one for him because she couldn't carry a child and have it live and Prince bought into all this bullshit. He had already started an affair with Manuela and brought her along to Bible study with LG because she wanted to become a JW too, how convenient and LG being the good Christian he was saw nothing wrong with this, anything as long as he brought P into the JW congregation!!!!! Meanwhile Mayte was left alone to grieve the loss of her children and the loss of her marriage as Prince flaunted Manuela in her face. We are all left to wonder if LG hadn't been involved and P could have been there when Mayte needed him, would they have grown even closer as a couple, would they have had a house full of children and would P still be with us today, I believe the answer is YES to all of it but sadly we will never know. 💜💜

I totally agree. Larry Graham was involved heavily with Prince during their marriage and manipulated the hell outta him with JW b.s. Him and Mayte already had a deep spiritual connection and Larry came in and ruined that. He used him during his darkest days to revitalize his career and to convert him.

Eileen Yarrow you drank all the Koolaid for her lol. Wow. Maybe he should have stayed with Nona gaye and then perhaps he'd have been a father and husband and lived a good life. Maybe he divorced her because she may not have disclosed that she had an orhopedic issue (in her book, she disclosed that she had to wear leg braces in her infancy) and perhaps contributed to amiir having an issue with bones fusing. It's possible . Don't blame him only for their marriage dissolution. .maybe they were simply never meant to be.
